I used to use original Kingdford for about 40 years. The last 10 years it seems the composition of wood used in the original blend has changed. We used to use newspaper or paper plates to light up the standard charcoals from Kingsford. But they don't light quickly or at all. When they did light, they would light unbalanced and it would take longer to cook. I use the two zone cooking method. Using the Match Light version lights fast and evenly. I prefer the original but it doesn't work for us. So Match Light is what we been using the last 10 years mostly. Sometimes I may add oak wood to extend the cooking. I have not experienced any unpleasant taste after cooking using the Match Light. But I know there is lighter fluid in it. So we don't BBQ as often as we used too with the original blend of Kingsford.

I bought 3 bags of Match light a few days ago and it would not light. I have used it bin the past and had no problem lighting it. Not sure what is different about it. I am on the fence about purchasing it again. Maybe the store gave me a bad bunch. Not sure if I would recommend again.

This is a great product and usually works very quick and very well. However the last 2 bags I have had will not light I had to use lighter fluid to get it started. I will still continue to use this because it is a fantastic charcoal and saves time getting to grilling while it makes the food more tasty.

I bought three bags of Match Light charcoal. Opened one and used part of the bag with no issues. I stored the remained of the bag in an air tight container in my hallway. Went to use it again, and would not light. Opened a new bag, would not light. Opened the third and final bag and it would not light, either. Very disappointed in this product!

I have bought 2 bags in the past 2 weeks or so and both bags wont stay lite. We prefer charcoal and Kingsford's brand but it doesn't want to stay lite like it used too. Very disappointed when we have to resort back to the kitchen and oven to cook our food.

I have been a gas grill owner for 7 years my burners went out I was gonna buy another one but couldnt find the one I wanted so I bought a bag of matchlight to use on the 4th it work out great my food was great and the taste was so much better. Thank you I'll have to buy a bigger bag next time.

We use Kingsford Original at home, when we vacation, go camping and trips where we will be cooking out, we will use Kingsford Match Light. Great product, easy to use and very convenient! We enjoy the ease of use along with th ecools burning long and evenly!

This has been our choice in Charcoal for years! The "other" "cheap" kinds make the food taste weird so we stick with Kingsford Match Lite! I saw other posts about some of you not being able to get yours to stay lit or getting it to lite, my suggestion is change your place of purchase. I too have bought a couple bags before from little stores where the bags have sat and sat on their shelves. If it's been there too long, chances are the chemicals which helps it lite and stay lit have evaporated, or there is a tiny tear in the bag which let the chemicals evaporate. I will NEVER own a gas grill because you just can't get that same grill taste with gas! However, I would like to see coupons available to loyal customers like myself available to us on the Kingsford website. Would be a great gift considering we buy 30+ bags during the spring and summer!

We purchased Kingsford Match Light Charcoal because there were no regular Kingsford Charcoal available. We used this charcoal for a Sunday night grill out. We noticed a STRONG smell of lighter fluid when my husband put them in the grill. This awful smell filled our house as well. We hoped when it was lite that the smell would subside. After the charcoal was ready to grill our chicken, we finished up with the other side dishes. We sat down to eat and we both ate a few bites realizing the taste of the lighter fluid was so strong on the chicken we could not eat it and I also had stomach issues the last two days. We not only felt sick to our stomachs but we lost 2 lbs. of chicken as well. I am very disappointed with Kingsford Match Light Charcoal and would never purchase this again. If we could have selected a rating lower than poor, we would have! Sincerely, Jenny & Bill

I just bought this and in two days it stayed in cool dry place. ten minutes is a joke, two hours is a joke. started grill at 10:30 for lunch and still waiting, it's now almost 2:00 and I'd still be waiting if I was STUPID,,,, will never buy your product again and will let all know how worthless it is. Only bright moment is we did not have 20 people here waiting for grill to get ready. We were doing practice run. Won't happen again.. Good luck selling this bag of junk. If I had read one warning saying it got old in store as it sat on shelf I would maybe consider using it again or trying it again.But you stared if not opened it could be stored and used up to two years????????????
