I bought this a week ago and tried to light it. Immediately went up in flames and everything was great. Today had people over for dinner. Loaded in the briguettes, took out my lighter -----and nothing. None of the coals would catch fire. Had no lighter fuel since supposedly it wasn't needed for this extra expensive charcoal. Thanks for ruining my family get together!

Bought two bags to take on vacation. Used within three days of purchase. Neither bag would even try to light. I had to go to the store and buy lighter fluid. Match light is false advertising. I can't believe all the reviews that say they had the same experience - wouldn't light.

I do not have tons of time to devote to cooking, so when I want something grilled outside, I always use Match Lite because it lights and heats up very quickly and you don't need lighter fluid. I would recommend that after opening the bag, you close it up tight. Otherwise, if you leave the bag open, the coals on top that are exposed to air become useless -they won't light.

I purchased Kingsford Match Light for my latest barbecue and I am glad that I did. The charcoal lit very easily and burned evenly throughout the time I needed to use it. It was a lot more convenient than having to use both charcoal and lighter fluid and the price was similar to having to purchase two separate products. I will purchase this again in the future.

I bought a bag of mesquite charcoal 2 months ago and I kept it sealed and inside my garage, I've used it twice in that time and it would not light unless I sprayed lighter fluid on it now this time that did not work. I've had this problem once before.

You would not except ZERO STARS, why not? It is worse than poor! I have purchase Kingsford Original almost exclusively for over 50 years. This was my first purchase of a different Kingsford product. I found it to be the VERY WORST charcoal purchase I have ever made. The performance was completely unacceptable for me. I bought it primarily for us when RV camping so I would not have to use a lighter fluid or carry my chimney starter. Our first camping trip with it was a couple of weeks ago and it performed miserably. The first time I had to keep relighting briquettes with matches over and over and it took over an hour to get the charcoal pile started (gray ash covered) to where I could cook. The second attempt was made using a piece of newspaper under the briquette stack and ONLY took 45 minutes. I tried one more time a when I got home using a propane light stick. Again it took ONLY 45 or 50 minutes. Today I violated your statement to never use a chimney starter method with newspaper. At least it was quicker than plain Kingsford Original, but still took 15 minutes to get completely gray ash covered. Needless to say I think I wasted some money buying this product. Hopefully, I won't be disappointed in my next purchase of Kingsford (non Match Light). Although, I may be tempted to try a competitor.

We have been buying Kingsford Match Light for years. We love it and we love Kingsford. The last 3 bags of Match Light we have bought have been horrible. They do not all ignite and they do not all burn. They also smoke horribly which we have never had a problem with before these last 3 bags. All 3 bags were bought at different stores-Dollar General, Fenn's Supermarket (local store) and Wal-Mart. Can not be said it was one bad batch. We are so disappointed in a product we have enjoyed using for years.

I had written an earlier review prior to trying this product. I was responding to others negative comments and voicing worry that I made the wrong purchase. That being said I used the match light for my first grilling last night. All was well. It lit easily. The steaks tasted great. I would purchase match light again.

Since it was changed to the "ready in ten minutes formula" I have not been happy. It gets too ashy too quickly. I have a small weber grill, one size larger than the smokey joe, and I don't like a lot of quick ash. It gets ash all over the meat. I am fine waiting 20 minutes for a smaller grain, more even ash. I have used this product on average about twice a week and am going to have to switch to something else, because this isn't working. It also seems to be consumed quicker, so if I want to do a slow, low heat, it is now not possible.

I grew up on Match Light-- my parents used it, I used it with my parents and when I was old enough, I used it. Now, EVERY TIME I buy it, it doesn't light. Why do I keep buying it? Never again. This Mother's Day, I promised my mom a BBQ so like a sucker I bought Match Light again and guess what, it DID NOT LIGHT. I was furious. I had to delay my Mother's Day BBQ and go to 3 different stores on Mother's Day to find another instant charcoal NOT made by Kingsford. I used the other brand's instant charcoal and it immediately lit! I feel so cheated by Kingsford with its so called guarantee and its useless product that was once the best. These last few years though, it has been more miss than hit (and not just for me apparently). What happened to you, Kingsford? Do you just not care about the quality of your product (or your customers) anymore? Happy Mother's Day. :-/
