This has been our choice in Charcoal for years! The "other" "cheap" kinds make the food taste weird so we stick with Kingsford Match Lite! I saw other posts about some of you not being able to get yours to stay lit or getting it to lite, my suggestion is change your place of purchase. I too have bought a couple bags before from little stores where the bags have sat and sat on their shelves. If it's been there too long, chances are the chemicals which helps it lite and stay lit have evaporated, or there is a tiny tear in the bag which let the chemicals evaporate. I will NEVER own a gas grill because you just can't get that same grill taste with gas! However, I would like to see coupons available to loyal customers like myself available to us on the Kingsford website. Would be a great gift considering we buy 30+ bags during the spring and summer!

I have had more than one experience where the charcoal won't light after 1 season. The bag was closed, but come the next summer, the charcoal just won't light. If the charcoal won't light after 1 season, then the bag should indicate this. That the bag, once opened, needs to be used that season or toss, because otherwise it won't light. I've been disappointed by this product more than once. Never fun to be ready to grill only to have to go to the store to buy lighter fluid when the product is suppose to work without it!!!! As a side note, I don't like that I had to open an account with my information just to leave a review!

I do not have tons of time to devote to cooking, so when I want something grilled outside, I always use Match Lite because it lights and heats up very quickly and you don't need lighter fluid. I would recommend that after opening the bag, you close it up tight. Otherwise, if you leave the bag open, the coals on top that are exposed to air become useless -they won't light.

My boyfriend and I have tried using this product twice-the first time we both got extremely ill. Thinking it may have just been regular food poisoning we tried it again-and we both became extremely ill just from a few bites. Our food smelled and tasted like cigarettes. Overall, a terrible experience and we won’t be buying or using charcoal ever again.

The whole concept of match-light charcoal would mean that one doesn't have to use anything but a match to light it, right? Apparently not this stuff, where marketing must have gotten a bit too confident for the development team to back up that claim. A half pack of matches, a good 3 minutes of a hand lighter, and a few fistfuls of newspaper were wholly insufficient to generate even the slightest flame from these dudes. It should be noted, this was a just-opened package. Oh, you say the charcoal needs to be stored inside, per the useless YouTube tutorial? Great, except a) I'm not storing anything this supposedly flammable in my house, and b) that advice is nowhere on the bag. Prospective buyer, do yourself a favor: get a gas grill or a chimney and some real charcoal. If you're going to spend a half hour prepping a grill, may as well make it worth it.

Bought this two days ago to use on my new grille, I spent five minutes trying to light the charcoal with matches and a lighter with no luck. I had to add a good amount of lighter fluid, it seemed like every briquette needed to be coated to work. This product was not worth the money.

I purchased a bag at Walmart day before Memorial Day. I tried to grill out day after and it took 20 mins to get the coals lit. Today I tried to grill out again and same issue. They did not instantly light at all. I ended up destroying the coals + extra and thru in trash.

Didn't use lighter fluid with these so that's not the issue. But we cooked burgers using these today and had to throw out all the food due to a very strong chemical taste in the food, like what I would imagine lighter fluid might taste like (smelled the same). The whole grill smelled disgusting from these. Never again!!

My son was visiting California from Michigan and we decided on having grilled steaks on our barbecue. Charcoals would not light, even though we tried about 30 matches. . We finally gave up and now have a full bag of "useless charcoals". They say "match light" Don't be fooled. This is the second time with this result. I won't try them again.

I generally use the original Kingsford briquettes, that require fluid. I've NEVER had a problem with the original, and love it. Just last night, I decided to barbeque a rack of ribs, and a pack of chicken thighs. My mouth was drooling at the thought of this dinner. Come to find out I needed more charcoal. Ran out & Tried the match light for the first time. I will say that it did light, without any problem, so that was convenient and why I gave it 2 stars.. The smell of the fluid was rather strong, upon opening the bag, but it kind of made sense if it doesn't require fluid, right? Right. So, I carried on. Lit the grill and waited a good 25 mins until the charcoal was coated over with ash, and I felt like any fluid would be burned off! Wrong! My entire dinner was sadly ruined. Everything tasted like fluid, despite waiting. I've always turned to Kingsford, and had high hopes for the match light experience. Unfortunately after this experience, I can't say I'll ever try it again. Literally wasted a whole rack of ribs, pack of chicken thighs, and I have about half a bag of the match light left, that I don't see me using again. I'm sorry to be this person, but I have to keep it real.
