I had never used another brand until a family member picked up charcoal for me, and brought home a store brand. Unlike my Kingsford Match Light, I couldn't get it lit, couldn't get it to STAY lit once I finally got it started, and dinner took forever to cook. I did notice a difference in how quickly it lit the last time I used it (first time grilling in a while), and was very pleased. An improvement on an already superior product!

I normally by the charcoal from Publix grocery store. When I first open the bag, it is great. One match will light it, but I use a lighter. As I get near the bottom of the bag, it is more difficult to light, but still usable. I just bought a bag from Walmart. It is horrible. I fought to light it the first time. Now I have to use a fluid to light it. I had a partial bag stored outside under the porch for 3 months that was easier to light. I guess Walmart buys tons of the stuff and leaves it in a warehouse for years before they sell it. Kingsford should not allow them to do this.

With the new season, I purchased a brand new bag of Match Light. This is the first time, I wasn't able to immediately light the charcoal. I even went and retrieved my cigar torch, which still did not light it. In the end, I put it all in a chimney and used some newspaper to light it. Has the composition changed?

My otherwise-perfect GF bought what she thought I specified: Kingsford. I buy this brand because it's consistent even though the grill is overflowing with "ash" (read: filler) after every cookout. This instant light stuff is the worst, though. Burns far too quickly and as an added bonus STINKS of lighter fluid! I'm going to start researching the Japanese charcoal (Binchotan) like I should've done years ago.

When I decide to throw anything on the grill I ALWAYS ALWAYS make sure to grab that Kingsford Matchlight in the black bag! It just couldnt get any easier! I come home, put the ENTIRE bag inside the grill, cut an X in the middle of the bag, and simply light the edges of the bag I cut and within minutes all of it is burning. No messing with lighter fluid, waiting, or worrying when the fire is just right to cook over. I just wait about ten minutes and I am ready to throw that meat on the grill!

Matchlight has just the right amount of fluid, and does just what the bag claims: ready In 10 minutes! I used to be a purist: chimney starter, no lighter fluid. Not anymore. I use this in my weber smokey joe and it always does the trick. Great job, Kingsford, for an exceptional product!

I used to use the regular charcoal, but decided to give this match light a try. It did not light at all. The bag has not been opened and it was stored in my cool garage. I stacked the briquettes and lit from the bottom corners. Absolutely nothing happened on either side. So of course I had no choice but to use lighter fluid. I hope my food doesnt taste like lighter fluid because if its already infused in the coal they should light right up and I should have to use lighter fluid. But nothing happened. I am highly disappointed!

I am somewhat disappointed. I always bought Matchlight because all you had to do is touch a match to it and the bricquets would immediately light with a good steady flame, and they would be entirely gray and ready to cook over in about 10 to 15 minutes. Not any longer. Now I ave to either soak then with lighter fluid, or what I have been doing lately is use small squares of camphor to light the charcoal. And it take longer for them to completely light. Another formerly good product that someone messed with, probably to save money and cut production costs per unit. This is happening with a lot of consumer products these days. From here on out I will just get regular charcoal and use camphor to light it.

This is a great product and usually works very quick and very well. However the last 2 bags I have had will not light I had to use lighter fluid to get it started. I will still continue to use this because it is a fantastic charcoal and saves time getting to grilling while it makes the food more tasty.

My entire house smells like lighter fluid from the fumes set off by this charcoal. Our entire dinner tastes like lighter fluid. Our body’s smell like it even after a shower. We had charcoals burning for 15 minutes before cooking also. I’d rate a 0/5 if I could. This was an absolutely horrible experience.
