Great for emergencies

Bought this back in September of 2021 but haven’t gotten around to breaking it in until now. Bought it for emergencies in case of a power black out. Shipped straight to my home with no dents or issues! So far I haven’t had any problems with it after hours of it continuously going.

Excellent feature set, quality build & details

Comparison shopped all the common brands from several different retailers, and settled on the 5300DFv as having the right combination of value and features. It was hard to find as home generators are a hot item in California this season. Set up was easy, started on the 2nd pull on gas, and did the break-in run of an hour with no load. On board voltage, frequency, and total/this-run hour meter is very handy. Then shut down, restarted and checked 240 volt, also good. Shut down again, restarted in 120 and ran several different loads for about 10 minutes. Slight RPM stutters as loads came online, but immediately stabilized. My only quibble is that the packaging is retail, and did not fair well during shipping. Box has minimal padding, and arrived with several torn spots, and had obviously been dropped and dragged by handlers. Am fortunate that damage to unit was limited to one small dent in frame on bottom corner (I can live with that, I'm sure I'll do worse over the coming years). Aside from a scuff on top, all else seems fine so far. Before filling and starting, did a cursory 'work around' with a set of wrenchs and sockets looking for any loose fittings, none of the sub-assemblies I could reach seemed loose, although a couple of final assembly bolts did need a 1/2 turn of snugging up. Welds and paint are pretty good, much better than some I've seen. Wheels have an outer rim of rubber (not just hard cast plastic) and feet are hard rubber with concave undersides - they 'hold' the smooth concrete floor and keep unit from walking. If you can find it for a competitive price, then this seems a very good value. One last note, this is not a particularly quiet unit, more appropriate for work site or ranch than campground or residential neighborhood. If you need it at your house and neighbors are close, you'll want to build a quiet box for it.

Just as Expected

Generator arrived clean and well packaged. Assembly of wheels and feet was a breeze. (Dont forget to add included engine oil) Filled the gas tank and it fired up easily. Now I cant wait to lose power in the next storm so I can turn on all my lights and show off to the neighborhood.

Reliable portable power for emergency use

I purchased this a few months ago before the 2021 polar vortex hit Texas as a backup power source since I follow the weather closely and I knew I may be trapped home for a week possibly without power and my house has no gas. I followed the instructions closely before use and ran it with no load on LPG for the first hour then tested it on my air compressor, fan, radio and electric chain saw at the same time with no issues at all. It started easily with only 2 pulls and ran well. It was loud so I will need to make provisions to mitigate the noise but for emergencies dual fuel is the way to go. I may add a soft start option to my A/C and an interlock switch to the main breaker panel and build a quiet box to run the whole house. Run it on LPG for about 15 to 20 minutes a month to ensure reliable operation and make sure to turn off the breaker then the gas supply to allow the gas to run out and not gum up or use a fuel treatment additive.

WGen5300

Love the generator and wattage output. I installed a cut-over switch and have tested it for running the house in a power outage, both freezers, kitchen lights/fridge and 1 AC ran fine with great voltage output (per the Electrician!). I did take 1 star off due to the fact that I had to order & return 2 units before receiving the 3rd one undamaged (the first 2 had FRAME and structural damage and just weren't packed well from the beginning). But the Generator itself works great once started and running!

Won't start

The first time I tried starting the generator, it just wouldn't start. I assumed I floded it with the choke. I tired later and it backfired. I bought some starter fluid and tried again a couple weeks later, and still no luck. I'm not sure if it's a bad plug or coil. I'm going to contact Westinghouse support to see if they have reccommendations.

Duel Fuel is the way

I bought this a few weeks ago in preparation for the hurricane season. Well, I couldn’t wait and started using it to power random items like my fridge, different types of charges for various batteries, tv, microwave fans. Things I would normally use during power outages. The generator did great in using it and didn’t skip a beat. It is super easy to switch between gas and propane and it’s nice that it includes a hose for the propane connection.

Great Features!

I bought this WGen 5300 DFcv portable generator today and assembled it per instructions. It started on the second pull. This generator has all the features I was looking for such as, dual fuel, 120V and 240V receptacles. The generator was a good value as well.

Awesome so far!

We bought this in preparation for another winter power outage in Texas. We bought this for the dual fuel feature combined with the nice specs. While testing, we were able to run all of our lights (LED), both gas heaters in our 3000 sqft house, all 7 ceiling fans, both refrigerators, all of our TV's and game systems, both pool pumps AND charge our electric car at 3 miles per hour. We did this all on using propane and we had around 500 watts left till maximum running rating for propane. The generator worked well for heavy testing and we are feeling prepared in case ERCOT has any issues during winter this year.

Great multipurpose generator

I bought this because it is propane as well as gasoline . I will feel better about storing it because there is no gasoline to go bad and have to be cleaned out . The generator is quiet and runs well on propane but I can use gasoline if I have to . Win, Win .
