I've wanted a duel fuel generator for a couple years. Our remote location as well as some of the recent ice / thunderstorms made me decide it was time. After researching several brands I landed on the Westinghouse 9500DF. It arrived today. It's well packed and came with the propane hose and even oil, which I didn't expect. Now-a-days it seems like products are shipped with teh bare basics, leaving you to run to the hardware store. That's not the case here. I also read the manual, and I have to say it's one of the better I've received in awhile. It even has a valve lash gap spec and maintenance procedure. Overall the first impression is very positive. I need to fuel up and getting it running through the break-in process.

I bought this for a backup for my home which loses power too often. It is powerful enough for its size and has some nice features like the wheels and handles that don't always come with other generators, as well as the remote start. The fact that it runs on dual fuel is also a plus if you run out of gas you can switch over without missing a beat.

We live in New England with sever winters and routine power outages. We had a freeze up last year costing us thousands to repair. Purchased this generator with the smart start as a replacement to hook up to our heating system. Also the lpg capability is a plus for sure starts eliminating no starts due to bad gas and frozen gas lines.

The Smart Transfer Switch sold me on this unit, also like the remote start. The dual fuel is a big plus, I will probably just use it on propane but being able to use gas is great incase one or the other is unavailable. This unit is a good solution to keep the essentials running in case of an extended power outage.

This generator comes with a remote control and that doesn’t make sense. You can’t start or stop the engine unless you physically attach or detach the electrical connection according to the operations manual. Also if running on propane you have to manually turn off the propane gas valve to stop flow. If you simply press start or stop on the remote without making the physical changes you run the risk of damaging the generator and in the case of propane you run the risk of creating a substantial gas leak. I ask Westinghouse what does the remote accomplish?

I purchased this unit back in July, ran it thru its paces today. I think it will be just fine. Ran it for about an hour and a half on the first start up, then let it cool down before I pulled a good load today here in Florida. Kept us cool and running with no problems thru the day. 3 Ton A/C with soft start on A/C unit. 3-bedroom home all led lighting

This is a great machine for the price. I purchased it as a hurricane preparedness item. I never look forward to hurricane season but I'm confident this machine will make things much better if we have an extended power outage. I expected something much larger but its this machine is slightly larger than my 5K except there are many more features.

I live on an island on the coast of Maine with the incumbent power failures, and purchased the Westinghouse 9500 DF about six months ago (99 hours of use) to replace my PowerStroke 6000 which is eight years old, still runs great, but wasn’t quite powerful enough to carry my whole house electrical system, and was getting older. This Westinghouse has been nothing but a disappointment. It constantly ”revs”, blinking the house lights when it has very little load. It shuts off on its own whim, sometimes starts and sometimes doesn’t. I’ve had all types of problems, both on traditional gas and using propane with it.(dual fuel) It seems to have no more power than my older 6000, despite claims that it’s much more powerful. In general, I use my much older smaller generator as my primary and only use this Westinghouse as a back up because I can never tell if it’s gonna run correctly. I’ve learned my lesson on buying this manufactures products. It won’t happen again.

I just purchased it so I have not yet had an opportunity to use it during a power outage but the generator started right up in both gas and propane mode. It is heavy but very solidly built. When running it, it was actually a bit quieter than I expected for its size and capacity. I would have to agree with a number of other reviews that I previously read that the plastic wheels might need to eventually be replaced. So far I am very impressed.

We were looking for a reliable power generator with the flexibility of using gas or LP, but with enough power to run the critical devices in our house. We were pleasantly surprised that this model from Westinghouse even included a fob for remote starting! The generator worked right out of the box and was easy to set up. Very satisfied!
