Salmon arrived with no dry ice left but still frozen; however several pieces were not vacuum-sealed. The quality of the fish was mediocre at best and definitely was inedible as sushi. As soon as it defrosted, it gave off a fishy smell, something you really don’t want when you’re eating raw fish. Cooked, it was slightly less offensive but not worth the high price tag.

The dry ice had completely melted, but fortunately the salmon arrived still frozen. I understand that the quantity was reduced from 16 pieces before to 14 this year at the same price. However, my box contained only 12 pieces. There was no explanation anywhere that it is sold by weight, so I contacted customer service. I only received an email saying they are checking with the vendor, and I still haven't gotten a response. If they paid more attention to shipping and quantity control, this would be salmon worth buying again—but this time, I was pretty upset.

They should give the customer double, 32 pieces for the same price. The 16 are small and thin portions. Furthermore, I would appreciate it if they could make sure the fish eat more 'wild-caught' versus hand feed. Overall, it is too pricey. It should not cost a fortune to eat healthy salmon.

I was a bit skeptical from all of the recent poor reviews, but Sam's club has satisfaction guaranteed. I was glad I did because these are fantastic for make from home poke bowls. No fishy smell or taste. It has become a weekly dinner now to have poke bowls with Salmon.

We have purchased this Sashimi-Grade Atlantic Salmon several times as we had always been satisfied with the quality and freshness of the salmon. However, in the last order, we had an unexpected experience with the shipment. Unfortunately, the dry ice had totally melted due to the new packaging (please see attached) that had replaced the previous styrofoam packaging, and the frozen salmon arrived completely thawed out. After contacting online customer service and informed the incident that salmon was thawed out due to the poor cardboard insulation material of the new packaging, the customer service personnel arranged to send us a replacement. Yet, they used the same non-styrofoam packaging to send the salmon, allowing the dry ice to completely evaporate before arriving to our place once again. This new packaging is clearly not suited for frozen 2-night shipments since the dry ice evaporates rapidly through the cardboard, and customers ordering should be aware of the risks if they want FROZEN salmon arriving at their doorsteps until they revert to the styrofoam packaging.

This is very good salmon. I have purchased many times before. The packaging has substantially changed. Instead of a styrofoam cooler with dry ice, it is now just packaging material with dry ice. The salmon arrived quickly and on time. The dry ice was completely evaporated and the salmon was no longer frozen. It was still cool to the touch. In the past with a styrofoam cooler, the salmon would have been frozen and there would still be a half block of dry ice.

What's unfortunate about most food reviews is that people have no palate. I bought this salmon from the perspective of eating it as sashimi/nigiri so I am writing from that perspective. The first thing you'll notice about the salmon when you get it is it doesn't have that deep orange color of ocean caught salmon and definitely doesn't look like the picture here. The flesh of this salmon is too tender to be used as sashimi. It comes part as you cut it and it would turn to mush if you smashed it. Personally I like salmon with some resilience and firmness while being tender if I'm going to eat it as sashimi or nigiri. The next thing you'll notice is that there is very little fat or oil in these salmon cuts. To make good sashimi you need that buttery flavor that comes from the fat and oils in the flesh of the fish. I don't know if this is because it is farm raised rather than fresh caught but this salmon was very plain and almost tasteless in that regard. While this may be fine for baking or grilling its falls short for making good sashimi. I found myself dipping the salmon in way too much soy sauce to give it flavor and cover up some of the fishiness rather than enjoying the flavor of the fish itself. A great sashimi you should be able to eat and enjoy with nothing at all. I definitely didn't like the taste of the plain fish. Is it "sashimi grade"? Sure it may pass the requirements to be labeled as such, but as far as taste and texture it falls way short of what one would call good sashimi. I wouldn't buy it again to eat this way.
