With a name like “LIFETIME” it should last more than a two seasons.

The hinges have rust welded two of our four bins CLOSED permanently. I suppose there is some way to replace these hinges, but direct replacement parts are not listed on the site. If these are a “normal” west item, they should be easily found on the site. If they are normal wear, their replacement price should be reasonable. It is just a metal himge, after all.

Dual Compost Tumblers #60309

I bought the tumblers in 2013 or 2014. Aside from a few changes that I would suggest in the instructions for assembling the compost tumbler set, we were able to assemble the set in a couple of hours. The tumblers worked quite well, and I was quite happy with them until the hinge on one of the tumblers rusted through in the winter of 2018-2019. I contacted customer service at Lifetime and asked how I could purchase new hinges and latches for my two compost tumblers. (Only the hinge on the one was completely dysfunctional, but the hinges were showing signs of rust, and I wanted to purchase the parts for both tumblers to avoid delays if and when the other parts should rust through.) To clarify, I was not requesting anything free; I had owned the tumblers for 5-6 years and considered the damage to the hinge to be normal after that time period sitting out in the elements. Bruce, the customer service rep, requested photos of the damage, and shortly I received notification that the hinge and two latches were being shipped to me. I received them, and my husband installed them easily, returning my compost tumbler set to full functionality and usefulness. I was charged nothing for the replacement parts. Obviously, I cannot complain about the service; however, I would comment that I would still like to be able to purchase parts for the second tumbler in the set on the Lifetime website so that I won't have a delay in the case that the parts on the other tumbler rust through or break. Overall, I have had a very good experience with the dual tumbler set and with Lifetime Customer Service. I utilize the tumblers daily to make compost for my garden, and find them very useful and simple to operate. They also have a very large capacity, which helps me get the most out of my garden.

Great composter I use it all year in Ohio

I've owned this for 3 years now. Awesome composter. Only negative is you have to keep the hinges greased, oil don't last. During the summer months I get compost in 30 days, winter months take about 90 days. One of the hinges broke I called to buy more and they shipped me a new one no charge. This is the best composter I have seen or used so far.

Do not buy this composter!

I have been using this for a couple of years, and the parts literally fall apart. When I contacted Lifetime they said that there was nothing they could do about it. Let me be clear, this was from normal use. The plastic pieces essentially fell apart.

Difficult

I am over 4 hours in and still don't have it together. If I ever finish it, I hope it works well. I would not recommend this as the directions are poor and should be in a different order. You can't see to line up the holes on the pole/legs. Terrible!

Customer service excellent for replacement part.

We bought the double bin rotating composter about one year ago. After a year the hinges rusted to the point where they could not function. I called customer service and they sent replacement parts free of charge. It was unexpected but very much appreciated. The Tumblers were great.

Customer Service Rocks!

I used this great composter for a few years and then the hinges rusted to the point where I could not open the "doors". Upon contacting the company, they sent me not just the hinges, but all the metal parts. I will be sure to apply lots of grease from here on out. P.S> I put buckets under the composter to catch the excess moisture for "compost tea".

Great composting - problematic rusting!

I've had my composter for several years and have enjoyed it's efficient and easy performance. The only complaint I have is quite similar to others listed ... the hinges and metal external parts rust and I've found no way (rust removal liquid, spray, etc.) to prevent it. At this point only one barrel is functional as the other barrel's lid will not open. The saving grace is that the customer service chat function was extremely easy to order replacement parts - I'm not thrilled with the cost of replacement parts but it's cheaper than replacing the barrels. Lifetime needs to find a better protective surface for all exposed metal pieces as it is truly IMPOSSIBLE to prevent rust when being used outside.

Superior customer service

After two years of owning the 60309 composer, one set of hinges just finally wore out. A quick call to customer service, a couple questions answered and I’ll be receiving a new hinge at no charge. These folks are a class act and make a very sturdy, reliable composter. Highly recommend!

Good engineering, do not overload!

We are new owners of the dual drum composter. We will revisit the review section next spring, after it has been tumbling and digesting for the winter, to assess the quality of the soil production and how well the mec. We generate low volumes of household scraps so we generally need to augment with carbon-rich material such as sawdust. We also inoculate when necessary to punch up the biota. We transferred our two heaps to the drums a week ago and have spun them twice. The frame seems like it will last the life of the drums. Our only concern is how much mass this unit can support and contain. Not only would the axial pipe begin to flex in the middle , the drums become impossible to turn.
