rot meat ... hallal meat

The lamb was spoiled/rotten. We regularly buy New Zealand lamb and have never had this issue, but this package looked different and was labeled “Halal.” As soon as we opened it, the odor was immediately foul and clearly spoiled. I cannot recommend this product, and I believe it should be investigated—many other customers have reported the same concern, yet it’s still being sold. When I reported it, I was asked to send a photo (which I did), then told to take it to the store or call the store. I called multiple times and no one answered. I ultimately had to throw it out and use vinegar, baking soda, and cleaners to control the smell since trash pickup isn’t for 4 more days! :-(

Bad smell!! Beware

I bought this recently and had to return for a refund because of the very bad smell it had when I opened the package. Smells like some sort of chemical. Not something I wanted to eat! Buyer beware!! Btw I’ve bought this many times in the past and it was fine but something was definitely off with this, I don’t know what changed,

Perfect on my smoker!

I coated the boneless leg of lamb in seasoned salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and dries rosemary ( including in the bone cavity). I smoked it fat side up at 250°- 275° for 3 hours using cherry wood. When the temperature probes (I use 2 smart probes) reached 140°f, I removed the leg, covered it in foil and let it rest for 30 minutes. Temps went up to 145° and was a perfect "medium" with an awesome crust. I will make this again!

Lamb Bourguignon

I often substitute the lamb in Julie Childs Beef Bourguignon recipe. I remove the netting and unroll the meat. I can also trim off the excess fat. The meat is leaner - not as marbled - than beef.

So Much Better Than It Used to Be!

These lamb legs are so much better than the old NZ legs that Sam's Club used to carry. We buy one almost every week for Sunday dinner after church and everyone just raves about how tender and juicy these legs are. Can't beat the value either, buying lamb this good anywhere else would cost so much more!
