My first priority was price and Walmart offered it the cheapest compared to other online sites offering this exact same product. It falls short of my expectations in that the tension rods that hold it in place in the door frame do not have a rubber stopper type end they are merely plastic and because of that they don't grab as much traction and tend to slip under too much pressure. It is doing its job keeping my daughter out of the kitchen however I'm afraid as she gets older and possibly leans on it, it may slide out and give way and she could fall. Also this gate does not open in both directions. Obviously it would be better if it did. The latching device is perfect. Overall good value but need to fix traction issues with tension rods.

The best gate I've ever owned

I looked for a long while to find a doorway gate for the lowest price, this was obv the winner. Works great, keeps the baby out of the back hall without everyone having to clamber over the gate. You can latch it or latch and lock it, which makes it so easy to use.

Love this gate!

I love this gate. I use it to separate the kitchen and the dining room. With that being said, I am the type of person that has to have all products match. So I bought this brand of gate in different sizes - Wide and extra wide also. I do not like those gates. Because of their size and extensions they can not be used pressure mounted and obtain the same sturdiness that you find with this gate. This gate - I did not use the extensions and it's perfect and super strong using only pressure mounts. *I just noted that for any other mom's out there that are going to buy a bunch of gates (same brand, different sizes).

Perfect for small dogs

I had the low priced wood with platic mesh gates that worked well, but I had to hop over them, adn sometimes that can be a hazzard. THe dogs would chew oon there, too and I would have to replace them. This gate is sturdy metal and has an easy to operate gate. It is also low enough for my cats to jump over, but not my small dogs. Great gate and inexpensive.

Great item!!

We bought this item to help us keep out 2 schnauzers contained and we are looking towards the time when out twin Grandbabies begin to walk. It was easy to install and does the job very well. It looks nicer than those wooden type gates and can be operated easily. I would highly recommend this gate!

Nice but doorway far too narrow.

I have only one complaint about the gate and it seems something that would be obvious to the designers. The doorway portion is FAR too small. It's very hard to walk through and almost impossible if you're carrying anything. I'm a thin person and I have to squeeze through. Another couple inches wide of an opening would seem a no-brainer.

Love this gate

My husband and I live in a split-level home with our 10 month old daughter and since we spend most of our time on the main level, we've only purchased 1 of these gates so far. It's at the top of the stairs that lead to the basement and does a very good job at keeping the cat downstairs and our daughter upstairs. As soon as she's capable of climbing the stairs, we will purchase another one for the upstairs. Great gate and fairly easy to wall mount. Takes 2 people...1 to hold the gate in place while the other marks the holes for the wall cups that the gate sits in to prevent it from falling over. Other than that, easy installation and easy to use...even 1 handed.

A passable gate

This gate (with the extension) fits a 40 inch opening. The opening I'm using this in is just a hair bigger than that so if an adult puts weight on it, the top will slide slowly. My 18 lb son grabs it and pulls back and forth with no movement. I have it pressure mounted. The gate comes with the extension to make it 40 inches. The opening device is much to complicated for my 9 1/2 month old son to figure out, but easy enough for my 6 year old niece to use without issue. It would have been nice if it went both ways, but I knew it only opened in one direction and bought it anyways. It opens in a way that it would be a feat to smash any little fingers that aren't placed directly into the opening device, which is far more important to me than opening both ways. The door stays open until you close it. Overall, the gate works well and I am satisfied with the purchase.

Exactly what I expected

I purchased this product online from Walmart.com, and had it shipped free to my local store. It was easy to setup in my house, and is exactly what I expected for the price. It does the job, without being over priced. With a new baby, I have a million other ways to spend money now (diapers and formula). It works very well, and will even be sturdy enough for the top of stairs.

not for older kids

I know most gates are not meant for children older than 2 but this one is way to easy to be opened by my 2.5 year old. Also, the opening is not very wide so you have to turn sideways when holding the baby or a laundry basket. It went up easily enough but it was a little flimsy. The more you tighten the tension to make it more secure the tighter the lock gets and then it starts to stick. I returned it to Walmart the day after I got it.
