Still learning how to navigate through the settings....previously had Swann wifi system, but the wifi kept cutting out. Miss the sound option. Defender 4k should have had audio. Wish the continuous stream showed "red" events on the playback timeline - overall the video quality is great, and like the fact that you can zoom into the images. Good value for the buck!!

Purchased this system to keep an eye on our camp. Install of cameras and wire routing was fairly straight forward, you will quickly identify if you have grabbed the wrong end of the cable for the camera. We installed all 4 cameras connected them to the DVR and plugged in the power, it was very rewarding to have the setup screen flash on with images from the 4 working cameras in the background. Set up of the software was okay following the provided instructions, getting the app set up for remote viewing from the phone was a fairly simple process with a QR code. After that, your on your own, and much of it is not that intuitive, but there is plenty of Youtube videos and other forums for operating the system. The cameras are decent quality and the DVR seems solid enough. But time will tell.

I purchased a 1080HD Defender system in 2014 and was happy with it so I upgraded to the 4K Ultra HD security system. Both are wired systems and I found the change over easy and the 4K cameras are a big improvement in the picture. This is in a private residence which has weathered hurricanes and other storms with no effect on the system even during the storm. Would recommend the system.

Picture Quality is great. Would have liked to have been told what was needed prior to purchasing it for the sound to record. Also, would be nice if Defender attached to my computer and backed up to the hard drive instead of a USB Stick. Just minor things that would make it even better.

This is actually my second Defender security system. I loved my 8 channel 4 camera HD 720p system I bought years ago so much that when I decided it was time to upgrade to newer equipment I knew I trusted Defender and was unsure I would like any other security system so I bit the bullet and got the 4k 16 channel system with 8 cameras. It took me a while to set it up because my old system was still working so I had the luxury of waiting for cooler days to run the cables through my hot attic. I'm very impressed. I knew that the 4k should be clearer and easier to zoom into but when I actually plugged it in I was shocked how much detail I had been missing. The system almost has too many controls. I'm still learning all of the new features. I will say that the outside cameras brightness was set to be to dim at first but thankfully it was an easy adjustment to make them brighter. I assume to is some auto adjustment due to the sun since the indoor cameras default setting looks great. I already know I will have many years of quality use with my new Defender system and I look forward to buying another one in the future.

Great quality with easy to understand startup instruction guide. Everything was in the kit to get the system up and going. This system is self contained where the video data is stored safety on your local high capacity DVR with no monthly fees that never end. The system is highly customizable to fit your unique needs.

Owning a 1080 - 8 camera system, I wanted to buy the 4K - 16 camera system, and reuse 8 of the 1080 cameras along with 8 - 4K cameras. The help desk was absolutely unable to figure out how to do that, so I drew up a schematic diagram for them to have their engineering section look at; which they eventually approved. BTW, it works very well. I used the 1080 power supplies with the built-in ferrite beads on the 1K cameras and the original cabling without ferrite beads for the 1K side.

I love the new 4k system I just purchased. The digital zoom is wonderful and the picture is crystal clear. The adjustment on the cameras are not what I was hoping they would be, but with a little time I was able to point all the cameras where i needed them.

Pros: -solid products -good video capture -straight forward install of hardware Cons: -confusing nomenclature in DVR system setup. it could be easier. -App has two locations to enable/disable push notifications, should be just one. -camera has up/down tilt but not side too side.
