It created a map of my floor plan and gives me the option to review perceived obstacles and designate Keep Out Zones. I suggest using the mapping feature prior to vacuuming because it goes much faster. Then enter room dividers and other information that Roomba needs to run a complete, thorough job. My old 960 took hours to clean our 1200 sq ft home. The j7 takes 75 minutes with 1 stop to recharge. After recharge, it goes back to where it missed! So cool!

I bought the J7+ for two main reasons, the self-empty feature and that it received relatively high scores online for cleaning carpets. The self-empty feature is mostly good. The only problem I've had is that it will occasionally say the bag is full when it's only about half full. This requires that I remove the bag, jiggle it around a little, and put it back. Not the end of the world, but annoying. The carpet cleaning isn't great, especially with pet hair. I have a cat and run this vacuum every day. Unfortunately, the design of the vacuum's brush is such that it clumps up the hair and then leaves random hairballs as it goes. So, rather than picking up all the hair, I get a trail of hairballs throughout the cleaning zone. Moreover, the bush's design allows for hair to get stuck in the "axle" part of the brush. About 50% way through the life of the brush, I get warnings that the brush is stuck and that I need to clear the obstruction. Each time, it requires me to remove the two brushes and pull hair that's been wrapped around on the underside, where the oddly large "axel" area is located. Basically, it's not great for the main two reasons I bought it. Moreover, the battery life is laughable. This is exasperated by the fact that the navigation is absolutely awful. I own a couple of "off brand" robot vacuums that cost half the price, but they have far superior battery and navigation logic compared to the J7+. My final annoyance with the robot is that it doesn't allow the user to monitor precisely where it is during a job, or where it left off when it inevitably goes back to the dock for one of its many charging breaks. Again, I have much cheaper vacuums that are much more precise and allow for the user to check its location and/or completed areas. One positive thing I can say is that the smart obstacle avoidance is pretty good when it comes to cords, shoes, socks, etc. Still slams into walls and furniture at full speed. Not good.

I brought a J7+ in March and it is now June and I keep getting error 26. I have cleaned the everything it rebooted, still getting error. It's suggested I buy a new cleaning module; I cannot find this for my module. How can something cost so much money to only last 3 months?! If I had known this I would've never purchased it. The sad thing is, I LOVED the vacuum up until this point. It cleans beautifully and the mapping of rooms is perfect. Still, I would've put my money towards an upright vacuum if I had known I would have this issue. I know have a very expensive, unusable item. Extremely disappointed

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have an older version of the Roomba. The j7 is definitely a welcomed upgrade. The robot travels in an organized way and a camera detects features and obstacles in your home. The technology in this robot is an upgrade from the older version. I have two dogs. One dog has white fur and sheds continuously. As seen in my attached video, my dog likes to sleep under our table. His fur is everywhere! As the Roomba drove through my dog's mess, you will notice that it picked up all of the fur with one swipe. How wonderful for pet owners! I also noticed that this vacuum drove over thresholds between rooms without issues. The older version would sometimes get stuck on these thresholds, but not the j7! It easily glided across floors. I appreciate that I can let this vacuum go and trust that it can finish the job without my intervention. The noise of the vacuum could be improved, however. It is a bit noisy. The motor of the vacuum and the travel noise can be heard across the house. Overall, I would recommend this vacuum. I would also recommend it to friends and family. The set up was extremely easy and straight forward. The app is visually appealing and understandable. As a mom and a fur mom, I am happy to use products that are time saving and effective. This roomba is just that! I am happy to continue to explore the features of this vacuum and share my thoughts with others.

Now make a scrubbing mop robot of same or better quality with self-cleaning/refilling properties that is not merely a wet towelette being dragged across the floor, and you'll have finally kept the promises iRobot made years ago, but before this, never kept.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my first time owning a Roomba and it is a nice addition to our home. In terms of the app, they’ve really thought of everything. After a couple of cleaning jobs, the app creates a “smart map” of your home that you can customize with dividers and labels. This comes in handy when you only want certain rooms to be cleaned. Setup was fast, but the time consuming part for me was watching it scan my condo (2 hours) to make sure it didn’t knock anything over. The only hiccup during the scan was when it ran into my cat’s water bowl and got a little splashed. The app allows you to add “keep out zones” to your map to avoid areas like I mentioned. I was impressed when watching it clean my dining room. The Roomba was able to clean around the table and chairs and remembered how to exit the maze of legs (see video). I left some drywall debris in my closet to test it out and it picked up everything except one bit (possibly missed because it was its first cleaning job and still mapping things out). The noise level was as expected—which is a little high—because, as I understand, this model has “pet features”. I imagine pulling up pet hair would require extra suction. It is very loud when emptying itself out (although brief), so keep that in mind if you have pets sensitive to noise. Overall, it is convenient to have. However, I wouldn’t consider this a necessity. With its price point in mind, I’d say it is more of a splurge if you want a break from manual vacuuming. That’s not to say that I think it is overpriced, as the technology and AI is fairly sophisticated. I hope this review was helpful.

The Roomba is perfect for a daily sweep to keep things tidy. As expected, it doesn't quite make its way into corners and along the floor molding, but for maintenance cleaning it's exactly what we needed!

I recently purchased the J7+ to replace my 692 model and I just love it. How can you not love having something vacuum for you while you are free to do other things? The reason I bought the J7+ was because I wanted a mapping feature and also the emptying feature and both work remarkably well. I can tell roomba to just vacuum a certain area and I don't have to babysit it and I'm confident it will do a great job and it does. I never should have waited so long to buy my first roomba and it only took me a year to upgrade that once I got a taste of what it could do. It's THE best investment I've ever made.

Look no further... the iRobot Romba J7 is the next smart tech you need to add to your home. Our house has the typical smart lights, cameras, thermostat, doorbell, and door lock. We decided to add a budget smart robot to clean and let me tell you it sucked and not in the way you want a vacuum to suck. The thing didn't work that well. Then we found the J7 from iRobot and let me tell you this thing SUCKS but it a good way. We have two little kids that are always dropping things on the floor, on our rugs and in the carpet. This robot vacuum could handle it all and all while avoiding the toys they left on the ground. The techology in this robot vacuum was something else. It can map your house and do cleanings without much interaction from me or my wife. It can learn where to go and where not to go over time. This is one of the coolest smart products out there. So like I said at the start, time to check out the iRobot J7. Do yourself a favor and get one NOW!

The new J9+ is definitely an upgrade over my old i7+, however it's still not quite enough to use for deep cleaning as a primary vacuum. I have a corgi and 2 cats and they leave a lot of hair. If I don't do maintenance vacuuming daily, it can accumulate. The daily maintenance may be exactly what this Roomba is best for - small amounts of hair on a regular basis. I tried running it after I had neglected the carpet for a week due to various life events and it just couldn't cut it. The battery life is definitely improved, though, and vacuuming our entire 3rd floor took less juice than our old Roomba vacuuming just the living room. Additionally, it picks up way more hair than the old device as well, with much better suction than we had with the i7+. I would recommend the J9+ if you're just looking for something to do lightweight maintenance but don't expect a deep clean.
