Great Watch...Ruined by the app selection.
The watch itself is everything I could want in a watch. Love the rotating bezel, speaker, and design. The down side is the selection and function of apps. Only the few apps by Samsung seem to work properly. All others I try that have the features I want such as weather and related info on a watch face don't work. They don't update like they should. The only music app is Spotify...Really.?! The play store has so many good apps I used with my Moto 360 I really miss it. I like Android products for the options they provide but this feels very limited with the tizen os instead of Android wear.
Great watch, good smart watch
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This watch has the potential to be the best smart watch on the market. Unfortunately i think it is not there yet. The watch looks great, feels great, the screen is awesome compared to other watches and it really looks premium. Unfortunately i do not have a samsung android phone, my android phone is another make, this meant i missed out on some of the options it could do like emails, reply to texts and take calls. These happen on samsung phones, but not on all other androids which i find dissapointing. Saying that, the watch is easy to use and to set up. The notifications were very nice and i soon got used to it. I would like to see more connectivity e.g. maps to work with phone but the other apps were good. I found the app store too focused on watch faces.... i can only use one a a time and do not need the thousands on offer. Especially when i thought the depth of useable apps was rather low. I recently tried the new iOS app for the samsung frontier. This gave a new life to the watch but is very limited in use down to the control by the phone. Its great to have the option on this platform but it had even less options than my android phone. When i used it for exercise, the GPS signal was very sketchy and was about 2/300 meters off compared to my other trusted GPS device. Also it kept telling me i was having a good cross training exercise whilst driving.
Life Upgrade
Love having this watch, it fits seamlessly in to my life style. I work for a Cellphone company as Incident Management, it allows me to make better business decisions and time management. Plus the active lifestyle piece has been a bonus. I didn't expect to gain any thing from that but I can say I have rather enjoyed it!
Very poor battery life, even on power save
Received as a Christmas gift, It looks great and has an impressive array of capabilities, however, the battery life on this thing is HORRIBLE. With several features enabled, battery lasts less than a day. With power save on, I've managed to eek 2 days out of it. Problem is, If I wanted to use any features, I'm married to having the charger nearby. I haven't used it in watch only mode yet, but that mode kind of defeats the purpose of having a smart watch. So, I equate this product to a performance car that has a 2 gallon gas tank... It could be sooo much better if you could leverage the full functionality of this thing, however, battery life makes this thing almost useless. I've looked up and employed all the battery saving videos on line, and there are plenty of them... Battery life is definitely a major flaw here...
Gear S3 Classic
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Samsung Gear S3 Classic is an amazing smartwatch. Just looking at the watch from a short distance, you would not even know that it was a Smart Watch. The notched bezel brings a touch of usability while adding class and style. The battery life on the bluetooth version tends to be well over 2 days from a complete charge. Applications such as Samsung Pay make this watch an extreme convenience. The mic and speakers give you the ability to make and receive phone calls, create text using voice, and pretty much anything that you can do with S Voice. This is one amazing watch!!
Love the features
I love my new Gear S-3 Frontier, i wore the Samsung Gear fit 2 for two years and I enjoyed the features. I decided it was time to upgrade to the Gear S-3. Being able to respond to phone calls without my Galaxy being near by is a great feature as well as setting reminders and sending texts. I also, like that it reminds me to get moving. I do wish the battery lasted longer than two days. Also, as a female, it would be easier for me if it came in a smaller size.
So far soo good
Merry Xmas to me :) The band that comes with it is very stiff, so I do recommend changing it. I have not found a good tutorial on how the watch & S health do things (waking up after sleep, walking,etc..) I also wish that some watch faces explain what they are doing, with the additional things on the face. I like it but I keep wanting to play with it, is that bad? :)
Impressive Style and Function
Three weeks in with the Samsung Gear S3 Classic and the longer I have had it the more I absolutely love it. The look of the Classic is just that classic with the silver casing and the leather band it is stylish and looks great. Setting up the S3 was quick and simple. Once you load the Samsung Gear app on your phone just turn on the watch and it automatically connects and walks you through the set-up. The S3 controls are simple and straightforward. The interface between the S3 and phone also allow you to further customize the S3 as well as access additional features of the S3. Gear S3 works great with S Health app on your phone and provides tracking of your activity from walking, running, heart rate monitored automatically to how long you sleep and the quality of your sleep. You can additionally enter meals and fluid intake into S health to further track your health goals. The Gear S3 not only collects activity data but also prompts you in encouraging ways to keep active and accomplish the goals you set. For those who don’t like carrying a wallet there is Samsung Pay. While I initially was hesitant in using this feature I decided to give it a try and find it very convenient. Just access the pay app on the S3 and select from the loaded cards and tap pay. Every time I use it the cashiers are amazed and impressed at how well it works and they always comment on how nice the watch looks as well. Overall the Samsung Gear 3 has been impressive both in the style and function. I would definitely recommend the S3 to anyone interested in purchasing a new or 1st time smartwatch.
the best atm
What a great smart watch. I wanted to get the gear s2 for a cheaper price and smaller face (my wrist is not big), but considering the fact that gear s3 has "always display on" function, it does look a lot like a real watch (on top of the circle watch with impressive bezel ring). Good job Samsung.
prelim assessment (phone: 1+3)
overall, I like the watch, however, there are still some bugs and compatibility issues and less than intuitive features to overcome with this smartwatch. I'll try and summize it as a pro and con list for anyone interested in this device and wants a users perspective. readers beware, some cons may be due to my inability to find a solution (yet) as I've only had it for a week. Pro: voice recognition works well. good design - i love the wheel on the face to rotate through your "apps". there is an array of custom bands as well for those of you who are dissatisfied with the stock bands, as i was (the lack of band selection for other smart watches was a factor in my decision as style is as important as functionality for a watch wearer). app selection seems good but I can't compare it to the AW2 store or others. keeps time well the alarm is great! vibration and beeps right on your wrist wake me without a hitch. snooze could be longer...I try not to snooze though. Con: the voice reader changes the way you interact with the touch screen making it difficult to disable. using voice commands to disable it only disabled the auto voice detection, not the reader. my phone uses ok google! in contrast to "hi gear" I knew this getting the watch but it is still a con for me to not be able to access the full array of voice commands through my watch and to my phone. (still looking for a solution to a more fluid voice control system). SMS - I can't send sms via "hi gear" commands. I'm still looking for a solution to this as well. (this discovery actually irritates me a bit) - the only solution i have as of now is to add the contact to the watch or your contacts list, go to their name, tap the message icon and you can use the mic icon at that point...but you can't straight voice command to it. bug? using discord app (chat group app) on my phone with headphones plugged in glitches it out completely, for starters the mic will continuously change its input source every half second making audio indistinguishable. but not only does it do that, it seems to flash a contact (usually most recent or top of the list - whoever's name starts with an A) onto the screen. it makes me concerned it will call someone without my desire from a bug of this nature. I'm unsure if this should be fixed on discords app side or the gears OS but it is definitely something that needs to be looked at. my temporary solution to this is to turn the watch off and charge it when using discord. I havn't tried other chat related apps. I'd like to think my con listed about the voice reader is a bug, but it actually says it changes the way it functions when activated.. I fully expect to discover more bugs as i get more active with its functionality - but other thoughts: the battery life could last longer, perhaps i could adjust settings further, but nearly stock with basic setup complete it seems like the charge will only last 2-3 days. (right now at 37% i have 21 hrs remaining) typically the input/output will come out on w/e device i respond to. don't forget to get a samsung account if you don't have one for the app store...thats basically how/why i'm writing this review.
