I just received my toaster and plugged it in. Starts smoking and smells like burning plastic (everything had already been removed from the toaster). My husband said it was just because of new coils. Ok, well then I put 2 frozen waffles on 3, burnt. Put 2 new ones in on 1, perfect. Then decided to test a piece of bread since it wasn't frozen. Put one in on 1 and came out burnt. I am not pleased that I spent all this money on a toaster that I cannot make toast in.

This was a Christmas gift. We asked for a 4 slice toaster to upgrade from a 2 slice other brand toaster. We thought a KA toaster would have no problems, so we unpackaged it to conserve space traveling back home with our family of 6. Upon setting it up a few weeks later, I adjusted the setting to a 2.5 to make toast. The toast took very long and was very dark. The toast lever is also difficult to push down and latch. I adjusted to the lowest setting and I still get medium dark toast, what I would expect from a 3 or 4 setting. The toast is also uneven, one side is how I like it and the other side is darker than I like. For the price, I think I could have got 2-3 toasters that are "cheaper" but work better.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this toaster a few weeks ago. So far we love it. It matches my KitchenAid mixer. It is a little bigger than I thought it would be but still fits on my counter. Bread is toasted on outside perfectly. It does not over toast thread till it's hard.

We went through a number of toaster reviews, and actually tried out a few in the flesh before settling on this one. The hang-up was even toasting on both sides across all 4 slots. This one has the problem of overtoasting if you toast only one piece, but we figured we could deal with it by setting back to 2 instead of 3 for 1 piece. I wish my old Hamilton Beach hadn't crapped out.

I'm been very happy with this toaster for several years. This morning when I went to unplug it, I found the ground plug stayed in the socket and there was no ground wire attachment in the plug. It appears to be purely cosmetic. Very disappointed in this unsafe situation.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Kitchen Aid toaster has been great to have in our kitchen. The slots are big, so you can toast bagels easily, and it dings when the item is ready, and the settings are on target on expectations of level of toasting. I am very impressed with quality and durability of the toaster, but of course it's a Kitchen Aid, so wouldn't expect anything less. Also, the color just gives it the perfect look to match our kitchen!!

Burns your toast even on setting 1. Turns your toast completely black and inedible on setting 5. You have to sit by the toaster and constantly hit the eject button to check and make sure it's not burnt. Thought I purchased a lemon so I returned it. Bought a second one and the had the same problem.

Just bought this and tried it twice. It's going right back to the store. It is not designed to hold and toast a Pop Tart. The Pop Tart is too skinny to fit in the holder which won't close and therefore won't turn on to start the toasting process. It's wide enough supposedly to toast bagels, which I haven't tried. Worked fine on bread, but honestly how hard is that? Bottom line....if your household wants to toast more than bread and bagels, like Pop Tarts, this is definitely NOT the toaster for you.

I purchased the toaster as a Christmas present for my boyfriend's mom. Her current 4-slice toaster, from another brand that remain nameless, stopped working on one side so she could only toast 2 pieces of bread at a time. Since we have family gatherings at her house often, she was thrilled to get a new toaster and a KitchenAid on top of that! I highly recommend this toaster!
