Great grill for the price!
I bought this grill instead of a famous name grill. I compared the features. This grill was a steal! I have been using it for about a month now. We had all of the family home and used it a lot. It was fantastic. Had a great sear on stakes. I also like how the tank stored away.
Many dents, scratches right out of box
We thought this would be a good deal. We picked it up at the store, and it was well packed, lots of styrofoam. However, once we started unpacking, we first notices a scratch on one piece. We thought, oh well. But when we continued on, we found more and more dents (and not just small ones) and scratches 10-15). Some places the porcelan had chipped off and it was already rusting! We were very carefull bringing it home, and the packing was not cracked or broken, so these had to be there (esp since they were already rusting) when they packed it. We were too far along to re-pack everything and return it, so lesson learned. One star because it does turn on.

Upon further review, its still a great value
After additional living with this grill, I'm starting to like it more. It gets very hot with those five burners, and retains heat, so if you want to do high sear/medium finish you will cook high on one end, open it up and release some heat, then finish on the other side. I like the five vertical burners over the horizontal ones of my old Weber as I can make easier to define zones. The cast iron grates hold heat big time, not a problem one you figure it out. The primary thing I hated was the wood chip slider, a gimmick the buyer at Sams should have known. It holds only a small amount of chips, and as it sits at probably the highest temp area inside, my thouroughly soaked hickory chips just ignited. Now you have an uncontrollable fire going in your highly controllable gas grill. And even if not using, the thing really creates a problem in cooking. As it gets super hot, it acts like a flat surface flavorizer bar in the idle of the grill. So if you're building the grill do away with it. Remove the slideoiut drawer, and there are two tiny nuts in the back of the tray. Take them out and the thing pops out of the front. The handle and plate just unscrew from the drawer. I then bonded the drawer face to the grill with Krylex dualWeld adhesive. Buyer, get your head in the game. This chip tray is a sales gimmick that is a royal pain and nearly caused me to return it. Also, I don't like the diagonal run of the grates; I makes cleaning a chore. Also, they don't list it as an accessory on the grill page but Sams sells a nice 68" cover for this grill for $39. Not all stores have it so I had to drive to the next store. This is an automatic addon necessary piece for this grill; it should be in every store adjacent to the grill.
Use the copper grilling pads and save your grates.
We bought this grill a month or so ago. During assembly I noticed that one of the black rubber stops on the front of the grill hood had been sheared off leaving only one stop on the left side and no support on the right side of the grill hood. This caused minor scratches where metal met metal during shipping. I called customer service to get a new piece and the lady sounded like she was getting right on it to send it out. A few weeks have gone by and as I suspected, I was just getting diversionary lip service. I would probably give this four stars if not for the lip service and minor damage during shipping. Oh well, I did get this on sale and the grill so far seems to work fine. Compared to others, you do get a lot of grill for the money. This is my third grill in my lifetime. I have replaced a few grill grates over the years. With this new grill, I decided to use the new copper grilling pads you can buy now. So far I am very pleased with the results and the cooking grates stay clean. Although it may be recommended, I would not use a steel wire brush on the cooking grates because you can scratch them and they will rust. I would only use a nylon brush when the grates are cool and let the heat get the rest before grilling. Or use the copper pads and extend the life of your grates, keep the juices in your meat or whatever you are grilling and get the grill marks and all. The flavor of the food coming off these copper pads is the best I have ever grilled.
Very poor quality and durability after 1 year!
We purchased this grill in the Summer of 2017 and use this grill several times per month including throughout the winter. After 1 year 4 of the 5 burners have cracked and now I have extremely uneven flames when grilling. The flames are so wild that even the flame tamer's are ineffective. Plus, the flame tamers and the cooking grates are pitted and becoming rusted. This should not happen after just 1 year to a quality made grill. I called customer service (888-837-1380) and they said that there is only a 90 warranty. The only solution was to buy new parts. My previous grill was a Weber Genesis that I had for almost 10 years with no issues to the burners or grates, although I had to replace the Weber flame tamers after 4 years. I had to replace the electronic start button after 5 years but Weber sent me one for free. My recommendation is to avoid this grill. Very poor quality and poor customer service. You get what you pay for so opt for a premium brand versus a cheap Sams Club knock off!
Excellent Value For Half The Cost!
Get this grill now! Sam's has discod for the season and marked it down. I asked the store manager if there was a little more room for discount and walked out for $239 !! This piece is comparable to all the $600 to $800 grills out there and the fit and finish is amazing. If you assemble yourself you will see what I mean. Very impressed. I'm a little older and slower now but assembly took 2-3 hrs but I use loctite and torque with a phillips bit on my ratchet handle. Throw away the cheap tools and use your own. @proudmommy: If your husband assembled in 45 minutes he needs to be on a NASCAR pit crew!! I haven't cooked on it yet but I know it will be great as friends have one as well. Go getcha one!
Multiple manufacturing defects
I bought this a few days ago and started putting it together today. First I discovered the left and right side cart panels had holes drilled in incorrect locations. I corrected this by drilling holes myself because I don't want to drive 2 hours to return it. Then I got to the caster wheels....some holes were on top of the frame and some on the bottom. At this point it was game over...hard to have 2 wheels on the bottom and 2 on top of the cart. The terrible quality control would lend me to believe everything you read about the poor long-term quality as well. Returning this and will buy something else...
Burners rust out in less than 2 years
I bought this in 2017 and like others thought it was "great". It was for the first year. Year two revealed 4 / 5 burners rusted out and dangerously leaking gas. I went online to replace the parts and found each burner cost $33-$38 EACH thus x four = $132 plus shipping so about $150 to replace the burners after two years which is one half the total cost of the unit. This was kept covered on a deck and well maintained. Unfortunately very poor materials are used in the burners which is the most important. Thus you get what you pay for.
Nice grill odd instructions
The grill is very nice and worth the price. If, you are putting this together yourself there is a very odd moment when hooking up the side burner. The instructions are not real clear what you should do and the picture is not real helpful. Flip the picture upside down and it will make more sense.
So far, so great!
I've only had it for a few days now, so time will be the true judge, but so far it is great and I'm very impressed. The assembly process was very smooth -- took about 3 hours including clean-up of all packaging materials. You really get a sense of the quality of the grill materials as you assemble it. Everything is very sturdy and seems to be made with high grade parts and stainless steel. Despite some other reviews where the unit arrived damaged, I was VERY impressed with how well packaged all the parts were. The instructions were also very clear and I had zero issues with assembly (aside from locating the hidden parts packed under the grill grates!). The only negatives I can think of is that the wood smoker feature DOES indeed create a cold spot on the grill, but you just need to be cognizant of it and avoid putting your food directly over it. It also would have been nice if they had moved the propane tank tray over to one side of the bottom compartment to maximize storage space. With that said, there is still decent room underneath for storing your grilling tools. All in, I'm very pleased with my purchase and have every expectation this will be a quality grill for many years to come.
