Nice Grill....but...
The burners started to disintegrate and I can't find replacements anywhere! Rankin replied to another review on this page and gave an e-mail address to contact them. I e-mailed the address but I have yet to get a reply. It is very frustrating! When I look at other websites that offer replacement parts for Members Mark grills, this model number isn't even listed. I am not sure what is going on but beware before you buy this grill!
3 summers and shot
Bought the grill 3 summers again and has always been covered after use. 4 out of the 5 burners are rusted out. I looked at buy parts and fixing it up but the parts come to more than a new grill would cost. If I could rate it lower, I would. Moving on to another brand.
I love this grill
I love this grill. I actually have two as one is at our summer home. I've been using the first of these grills for over 2 years. My previous grill was a Char-broil Commercial Series from 2003. Just before the bottom of that grill rusted out I had purchased replacement grill grates for that Char-broil grill. So when it came time to replace that grill I was trying to find a grill that had the same size grate area so I could continue to use the new grates. This Members Mark 5-burner grill was perfect. I don't use the grates that came with the MM grill as I still use the Char-broil replacement grates, and I love them. So... if you love this Members Mark 5-burner grill as I do, but are not happy with the grill grates- which seems to be the major issue in these reviews; then here is a link to order the replacement grill grates that I use... https://www.allpartsgrills.com/ecommerce/66662.html They're not an absolute perfect fit, but pretty darn close. You might lose a couple square inches in the total width of the cooking surface. It's going to add another $86+ shipping to the price, but even at that this grill still compares to grills costing still much more than that.
Looks are deceiving
I bought this grill Sept 2016 for $300. From all appearances, the grill functioned as it should, but as it turns out, this grill was not "built to last". Starting the following year I noted there inconsistent heating areas on the grill top. By the following summer (2018) it was very difficult to manage. Mind you, I am a guy that keeps his grill clean....I foil the flame guards and the drip pan to protect the grill all I can and it helps in clean up. Come Summer 2019, the grill burners have really broken down. To think I needed to replace the burners was frustrating considering the age of the grill. I finally got out the manual and decided to replace the burners and "carry over" pieces in between - better then purchasing a new grill. All 5 burners and 4 carry overs in between the burners needed to be replaced. I call the numbers provided me for these parts and they quoted me $200 to replace the burners and $65 to replace the carryovers (and those are discounted prices). Like I am going to do that? Also, look up this grill now and you can purchase it for $200 today. I checked with Sam's Club customer service and they told me that had I brought this matter up in Sept 2018, Sam's Club would have honored the warranty on the grill (2 years). So, I am left with accepting that this cost to me was $100 per year to own a grill at home the past 3 years...unless I replace it with the new one which then resets that cost to $166 per year until that grill gets to 2 years old and have to replace that one, etc....ridiculous. I am really put out by this outcome and it will discourage me from purchasing anything from Sam's Club except my gas, groceries and dry goods from now on.
Get what you pay for
I bought this grill because it seemed heavy and sturdy. After 1 year the burners crumbled. The model # will not come up on any parts site and I can't find these 17 1/2 inch burners. The smoker is worthless. Just remove it so you can cook properly. The grates are cast iron and impossible to clean and rust is awful. Took a chance on this grill. Bad decision
Best grill I've ever owned
This grill is outstanding. Should take you a couple of hours to put together. Fired it up last night. Brought temp up to 400 degrees and let sit 5 minutes to burn off factory residue. Purchased copper grilling pads . Placed them on the grill grates, threw 5 marinated chicken breasts on, and cooked them about 10 minutes until they hit 150+ degrees. I don't usually cook with any marinades because they ruin the grill. Not so with the copper pads. Chicken came out perfect. My grill still looks like new. Outstanding features: heavy grilling plates which sear the meat, heavy duty lid which I was able to maintain 400 degrees with only one burner on, quality parts throughout the whole grill. Other complaints on internet were about the grill plates, so I bought the copper pads. Wish I had known about these years ago. They distribute heat evenly, and keep all juices on top of the plates, while searing the meat, so they don't run down and ruin everything below. Highly recommend this grill!!
Awesome Grill at a great Price!
Was initially concerned about quality (given the price) - but went ahead with the purchase based on the positive comments. Out the door, this grill was a tad over $330. The box weighs 160 lbs - so it's at the upper limits of what one person can adequately handle. I was in no particular hurry and assembly took me about two hours by myself. Instructions were well executed and surprisingly easy to follow. All necessary tools were provided. Holes were pre-threaded - so no need to washers and nuts. The materials are high quality and seem to be well built. I was very much impressed at the overall build and quality of this grill. Once together, it fired up easily with no drama and a consistent flame and temperature. I see no reason why this grill won't last as long as my previous grill (7 years) - but the long term performance obviously remains to be seen. My initial impression of this grill is that it appears to be a fantastic value.
great grill but ordering parts a nightmare
Purchased my grill 2 years ago. it cooks well and is easy to clean. I only have 2 complaints, though I think one of them is a major concern. Complain 1. The grease catch is too small and if it overflows it pours all over everything inside of the cabinet housing. A small issue but one that could be addressed. Complaint 2 is the big one. After two years I need to replace the burners. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any replacement burners for this grill online, thus requiring that I call the Customer Service number on the owner's manual (1-888-837-1380). This company is based out of California and only available Mon-Fri between 8am-5pm PST. The bad news is that they don't manufacture the burners, they only sell them. today (03/12/2019) I called them to order 5 burners. They are out of stock and won't have any in until Mid-April. When I asked about the order the person I spoke with stated they would place my name on a list and call me when they get the burners in. I asked how they would know how many burners to order and the young lady stated "that's a great question...I don't know." When I asked why they didn't have any burners in stock the young lady stated that they only keep them in stock "in season." I informed her I was in FL and we grill all year, and she stated the company only keeps the burners in stock during the spring and summer months, so I pointed out that today is March 12, and she stated "Oh...I see your point, but we don't have the burner in yet." If you can deal with this then the grill is a great purchase. Otherwise I'd consider another grill...possibly another brand.
Low flame
Bought this grill the first time and had an issue with the flame not getting bigger. Thought it was the tank, so I replaced it. That didn't fix it. Returned the grill and got the same one. Put it together... again. Using the same tank as before, the grill worked great. No issues. Now I'm having the same issue I had with the first one. Taking back tomorrow and will not be getting this grill again. Great while it works though. Think there is something wrong with the regulator line that runs from the grill to the tank in these grills. At least the customer service at SAMs has been easy to work with.
Good build concept, poor grates & tent covers
After having had returned the first grill for damage found upon opening the box (frustrating) - I brought home round 2 and found no damage. Assembly was fairly easy and didn't take a whole lot of time. The grill is very heavy duty and fit together like a dream. The knobs are very smooth in operation and the igniter and pull out propane tray are fantastic. There are definitely pros to this grill. What I'm most disappointed with are grates and burner tents. I have taken care of this grill perfectly. It's not stored outside and get cleaned after every use. In the course of 1 year, I've used this grill 6 times and the grates and burner tents are rusting. No rust on the outside at all. I've contacted customer service and never received any offer of replacement parts or money back. The only other con I can come up with other than the rust is that the edges of the stainless side tables are very sharp. I've actually sliced my finger moving the grill from the garage to the yard (again, it's always stored). Just learned to be more careful when moving it.
