Smelled burnt and taste burnt!

My recent bag of Sumatra grounds are terrible. I love opening up a bag and smelling the wonderful aroma of Sumatra Coffee grounds. This did not happen with Starbucks Sumatra ground coffee in a bag. As soon as I opened it I knew it would be terrible. I brewed it anyway and tasted horrible. The coffee is burnt from the get go. Expected more from this company. What a waste of money. Folgers coffee is better and that says allot.

Great tasting coffee

I bought a bag of Sumatra from Kroger about 3 years ago. I knew that I preferred a dark roast, so I went for it. Since then, I'd say 90% of the time I have sumatra in my coffee canister. It's strong and tastes amazing, I love it, my husband loves it... We're happy campers over here.

Party early morning!

Received my box this morning and popped a Starbucks Sumatra k cup in my Keurig right away. So surprised by the healthy aroma and the wonderful taste! I dislike acidic coffee and this brew is perfect for my taste buds. If you like VN coffee, you can add 2 tsp condensed milk to 10 oz cup and voila, you made your own delicious brew. Make it with 8 oz setting, cool it a little, then pour it over ice cubes for a refreshing iced coffee. I’m ordering another box while it’s on sale, Sumatra is my favorite now

Decaf Sumatra

I finally ran out of decaf Sumatra. After hearing it was discontinued I managed to find a few remaining bags at local stores. Now I am on a mission to find a replacement for a coffee that I had been exclusively drinking for the past 5 years. I have tried the Cafe Verona and Expresso decafs and, while they aren't terrible, the flavor is not as smooth as the Sumatra. Perhaps more importantly, the Sumatra utilized the Swiss Water decaf process, rather than the more common chemical process. I am confused why Starbucks would discontinue the variety that is chemical free considering company ethics. So now, I am trying other companies' water processed decafs, hoping to find one that comes close to Starbucks Decaf Sumatra. If anyone has found one, please share in these reviews.

This coffee is Passable

Living in China I have no option but to buy coffee from Starbucks, a place I call the 'McDonalds of coffee houses' due to their adding vanilla, strawberry, caramel (!!) etc etc to coffee and tarting up my favorite, the Machiato. This coffee is a decent enough full bodied robusta, but I admit when I grabbed the 'Christmas blend vintage Espresso roast ' I did not actually look for the 'made from arabica beans' which of course was not there. Starbucks bases its success on marketing, not the coffee they serve.

Makes a great latte

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sumatra Starbucks coffee is my favorite coffee. Makes a great latte. The quality is much better than most other brands. The taste is perfect for a cup of coffee or a latte. Friend don’t let friends drink Duncan.

Dark roast - Sumatra

Starbucks' dark roasts will always be a first choice for me; Komodo Dragon is at the top of my list, and Sumatra is a worthy contender. This was my first purchase through the online store, and it was delivered on time, intact, and was delicious when brewed: you can't beat the aroma of brewing coffee. Thanks for everything!

This Sumatra is roasted too dark

I purchased this coffee for the family to drink every morning. Myself I enjoy dark roasted but my regular is Starbuck's House Blend or Veranda because my family usually leans towards lighter roasts. When I brewed Starbucks Sumatra it smelled great but when I tasted it let's just say it just tasted burnt. My acid reflux kicked it right up, that's how over roasted this coffee is. The rest of the coffee lovers in my family couldn't stomach this coffee and they love coffee! I couldn't get them to try it again the next day, so I got stuck trying to drink it myself. I watered it down, added less coffee grounds per 6 oz. Nothing worked I had to finally give up and throw the coffee out.

Strong and very earthy

I loved the Komodo Dragon, so my next move could only be Sumatra. Sumatra is much more earthy than the Komodo, which may be an acquired taste for some people. If you prefer crisper, lighter flavors, you may not care for Sumatra. But for those who like a bold brew with a bit more body, Sumatra's a good place to start. I'd especially recommend it if you enjoyed Komodo Dragon or this year's Anniversary Blend, as they share many of the same elements and boldness.
