New growth is finer and takes much longer to grow back. It did not hurt me at all. I have very pale and dark hair and I believe that I am the ideal candidate for IPL hair removal. I am so happy! I am sold by how efficiently this device works. Having tried it underarms and on legs this works, have had no redness and very minimal hair growth in the past weeks. Have been using weekly since a month and I can claim that my hair has shrunk in size. My skin is not bumpy and has not shown any other ill effects which makes me happy. Infact my husband mentioned the other day that you look ready for summer with your waxed legs and I told him I did not wax and showed him how the IPL worked. As soon as he saw how easy it was he wanted to try it on his hairy chest btw it is not an easy job to convince him to try something especially that relates to his body and hair. So good job IPL in making me hair free and hopefully you will work your magic on the hubby bear (cause he is hairy like one and sheds like one too)

I am no stranger to hairy issues as I have dealt with razor cuts, razor burn, and ingrown hairs just to name a few. I was ecstatic to receive my Gillette Venus Silk Expert in the mail. Upon arrival, the packaging for the actual product was superb. That may sound like a strange thing to say, but it is the first thing you see. First impressions can make or break a product and even decide whether or not someone will even buy it the box was so study and protective. I instictively associated this with a high quality product before even looking at the product. Upon inspection of the Silk Expert, it was larger than I expected. It seemed very durable as well. I was expecting to have to wait to use it until it was fully charged like mist electronics. Alas, all I had to do was plug in and could use it right away. After throughly reading the instructions, I began my initial use. I had freshly shave arm pits and bikini area. The Gillette Venus Silk Expert is easy to hold with its curved design and has enough weight to it that it doesn't flop around. The actual treatments give the slightest sting, if you can even call it that. I was expecting a little pain and was pleasantly surprised to feel the opposite. After a few pushes of the button, I was done. I actually reread the instructions as this seemed too easy. Nope, it really is that easy. I was done in less than 5 minutes. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The box was easy to open and contained the unit, power cable, a Gillette Venus razor, and the instruction manual (pictured). I read through the whole manual before I tried it to make sure I knew exactly how it worked. I was a little scared about shooting myself with a laser! The manual says to not use it on freckles, moles, dark spots, etc. I am fair skinned with dark hair (the ideal for using this product), but I have a ton of freckles and moles on my legs, so using it on my legs without hitting one of those is impossible. Also the manual stated that you should avoid sun exposure for 7 days on the treatment area. This is probably doable in the winter, but it's summer now and a lot of my body is getting sun exposure every day. So I recommend that if you want to do arms or legs to start use this product in the winter so you can follow that rule. Due to this I decided to use this on my underarms and bikini area. I followed the instructions and prepared by shaving the treatment areas with the included razor. I plugged it in and a loud fan starts to run. Figuring out how to do the treatments took a little practice, but I feel like I had mastered it by the third time using the unit. At first it is hard to figure out if you are putting the treatment areas close enough together, but you can see the areas you missed as the hair glows back in. For me some areas had finer hair and slower growth, then there were strips between these areas with normal hair, so I could see I needed to do the treatments closer together. The treatments feel like when you accidentally touch your curling iron to your skin for a second (really hot, but it doesn't burn). For me the skin looked the same after being treated and wasn't even red. There was also a slight burned hair smell. I have done three treatments one week apart so far and I'm seeing results. The hair coming in is finer and growing slower. I'm going to continue using the unit because it's so nice not to have to shave my underarms every day! I have always been curious about products like this but the price always deterred me from buying it! I am not seeing much results so far but it is a long process to get the results I am looking for. The process is very easy to do and pretty much painless! I can not wait to see the progression and how well this works! It would definitely be nice to not have to shave so frequently!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was hoping to go through all 12 weeks of product use before submitting my final review, however, the bzz campaign will be over by then. I have 3 more treatments to complete. I was selected to receive this product free of charge in exchange for an honest review. I am THRILLED with the results. I have seen a 90% reduction in hair growth so far. My legs are so smooth even 5-7 days after shaving/lasering. My arm pits I am seeing about an 80% reduction. I am also 1 treatment behind, so that could be the reason. Oh to NOT have to shave! Especially with summer right around the corner! I would gladly spend 30 minutes a week doing laser hair removal to not have to shave ALL WEEK LONG! And, I bet this goes even longer. I could probably get away with 3 weeks no shaving, but can't test that theory while I am still doing my 12 treatments. I have had more people touch my legs during the past 9 weeks than I have since I've been married! I am in such awe that I keep telling everyone to feel how smooth my legs are. Several friends have wanted to borrow it when I'm done, but NO WAY! They are more than welcome to come to my house to use it, but no way am I letting this out of my sight. It is too valuable. I still don't like the things I listed in my previous review. The glide feature takes a long time to reset. It doesn't work on the front of the leg on the bone. It's not a deal breaker since all I have to do it hold the device vertical and treat it that way. I don't even want to talk about the few things I dislike about the product because I LOVE not having hairy legs, razor-burned legs, stubbly legs! I love not having to place my foot on the shower wall, lather my leg with cream, shave, then switch. Do you know how dangerous that is?! Especially after I switch legs, the shower is slippery. So, not only did this reduce hair, it quite possibly saved me from taking a nasty fall in the shower. :) I originally rated this with 4 stars, but the pros completely outweigh the cons and this gets a 5 star rating from me!

I have tried almost all hair removal products (including laser) except for IPL. I was excited to try the Gillette Venus Silk-Expert IPL. My first impression of this product is very positive. The instructions are clear and easy to understand (For safety's sake, make sure you read them carefully). The product is simple to work and is FAST. I have tried a laser which takes a lot of time. Since the Silk-Expert IPL is plugged in, the light recharges immediately and you don't have to worry about the battery dying mid-treatment. The cord is long and unrestrictive. The Silk-Expert IPL is smart. It tests your skin color every time. It would not work on areas of my body that it deemed too dark. This IPL treatment is almost painless. Far less painful than lasers, waxing or even plucking. It does get warm (as do lasers). You should do any sensitive areas first when it's cooler. You could also unplug and let it cool a little if it gets too warm. It's otherwise so quick that this shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience. I didn't find the need to do this, but if you are very sensitive to the heat you might. The light window is large and covers a good expanse of skin. It took me a few minutes to cover an area that would take a laser 20 minutes. And the scan and flash is amazing - fast and efficient. Of course, all good things have their limitations. The Silk-Expert IPL is big and likes a flat surface. For the tops of my feet I had to turn it 90 degrees but then it worked fine. It worked on my flat knees. If you have nice boney knees, it might not work as easily. Nothing is perfect, though. Lasers and waxing are difficult on softer/looser skin. The Silk-Expert IPL did not have that limitation. It's flatness not firmness of the body part that's important for the IPL to work. Another concern is the flashes are bright. The instructions say to look away. I looked away and closed my eyes, and could still tell when the IPL went off. Once I accidentally looked in the mirror while doing my armpit and saw a super bright flash of light. I might get some inexpensive IPL glasses to use with this to be extra cautious. If the Silk-Expert IPL works well to remove hair, I will be ecstatic. If the hair is reduced as promised, then the ease, speed, and relative painlessness of this product will make it superior to others and my choice for hair removal.

The Silk-expert was really easy to use. I read the instruction manual, plugged it in, and did a test patch on my leg. On my first try, I guess I left it in place a little long (2 pulses) and it was REALLY hot. I turned it down to the lowest setting, and continued without burning myself. Immediately after, I had no side effects. 24 hours later, there are no red marks, and it doesn't itch. Still no side effects. I had a little trouble getting the skin tone sensors to read my skin tone at the shin, and I had to turn it sideways on that area, so it was a little different from shaving my legs. I plan to use the device on my legs and underarms, if I can get the skin tone sensors to work in my pits. I guess I'll see how it's all going in several weeks. I like that it came with a razor, as my current razor is about ready to be replaced.

First off; let me just say I was so excited to get a chance to try this out. This campaign came at a perfect time to start the treatment and be ready to go for Summer. I was thoroughly impressed with the packaging of the Gillette Venus Silk-expert; it is so nice to be able to store it in it's original packaging. On my first try with this thing I was incredibly nervous; so much so that I couldn't bring myself to actually push the button. It took me ten times to finally get the nerve to hit the button. Once I did, I couldn't help but laugh at myself as there was no pain whatsoever. This was super easy to use and I love that the light detects the skin tone and knows how much power to use. The only difficult part for me was trying to use this on my knees and ankles as both sides need to be in contact with your skin. The other warning I would give is that it does get warmer the longer you use; so perhaps using it on more sensitive areas first would be recommended. I have now used this twice; once per week. And while I have not seen results yet; I am highly optimistic that it will work.

I used this for the first time this morning and I am very impressed with how simple, quick, and painless it is to use! The box comes with the Gillette Venus Silk Expert IPL device, a power cord, a Venus razor, and instruction book. The instruction book tells you exactly what skin tones and hair colors this will and will not work on (does not work on darker skin tones, or red, blonde, or gray hair), as well as a long list of "do not use if" items. It can be used on your face (below the cheekbones), bikini line, arms, under arms, and legs. The directions were simple and easy to follow, you just put it up to your skin and press a button for "precision" mode or press and hold the button for "glide" mode. There are 3 power settings: normal, gentle, and extra gentle. I've used a different at home laser hair remover in the past, and it was pretty painful in spots, but I used this in the normal setting on my underarms, bikini line, and legs, and there was no pain! There was occasionally a warming sensation, but nothing unbearable. The flash is pretty bright, but I just covered my eyes and turned my head away. That worked for now, but I may get some protective glasses in the future. The only thing I'm not really a fan of is the power cord. It is nice that you don't have to worry about recharging it, but it limits the places that I can use it. So far, I really like using it and I can't wait to see how it works over the next 12 weeks!
