Remarkable!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using the Gillette Venus Silk-expert for 4 weeks now and the result is remarkable. I am still shaving, but only once per month. It is very easy to use. However, if you do have a tattoo, please make sure that you DO NOT touch it with the Silk-expert. It is in the instructions, but I need to stress this. I have found that when going around the boney parts of the leg, it is easier to turn the device sideways.
So far so good
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far using my free Gillette Venus Silk-expert powered by Braun has been very easy. No initial issues when using it. I've used it a few times and it has been simple and actually faster than I thought it would take. I can see my hair growth growing sparse in some areas, so to ME, that means IT WORK!!!! I can't wait to see the end results and ditch my razor forever!
Gillette Venus Silk Initial Thoughts
Initial thought, not even out of the box, "Wow, I'm excited for this!" Nicely packaged with a lot of "DO NOT" warnings on the outside which frightened me a bit to be honest but many were common sense. I did however have plans to use this on my legs and a "DO NOT" was on tattoos. I have a large tattoo on my shin and not sure if I want to use the product too close to it so for now I am using it on my under arms and bikini line. I have medium-dark brown hair, light skin and most of my body hair is dark brown as well. I followed the instructions, shaved and started on my armpits first. I have had in office laser facials and also laser tattoo removal so I have experience to compare this product to. It is easy to use, and the initial feeling is like a quick flash of heat on the area. I did not experience any redness or pain after and this was on the highest setting for my armpits. For the bikini area I did turn the setting down and it felt exactly the same, like a flash of hot heat on each area. No reddness or after issues. The only thing I can find that needs improvement is the treatment window. If it could be smaller or have an attachment to focus on smaller areas, like around my tattoo so I could do my legs that would be helpful. So far I love it though and am looking forward to seeing results!
Easy to Use
Upon my first use I was quite impressed! I found the Gillette Venus Silk-expert by Braun very easy to use. I was nervous because I felt it might be painful but it wasn't at all. I have fair skin and brown hair and it worked very well. I will update after a few more weeks of use.
Great for removing hair!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a fair skinned Asian with dark hair. I usually shave once a day to maintain stubble-free smooth legs and underarms, which is annoying but just a part of my morning ritual. But I was very curious to try the Venus Silk-Expert! I did not experience any burning sensation or any discomfort at all actually, and I noticed that the hair growth really lessened as each week progressed, growing back thinner and lighter each week. It really worked well for me and I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in giving it a try.
The woes of facial hair
I have been using the Gillette Venus Silk-expert for two weeks only on my facial hair because that is much more of a concern for me (and many other women) than leg hair. However, if the device does a decent job on my facial hair, then I will definitely start using it on my legs and other areas. The device is substantial but extremely easy to handle and use, given that it is discharging a high amount of intense pulsed light (IPL) every two seconds. It's actually quite remarkable considering what it does. By the way, IPL is when energy from light or electric currents heats up the hair follicle to prevent hair regrowth. It breaks the hair regrowth cycle and essentially fast-forwards hairs into the resting or telogen phase, keeping it in this phase with continued treatments to ensure no new hair can reach the skin surface. Before I use it, the areas I am using it on need to be clean and free from hairs; so I need to either pluck or shave the areas. I begin by placing the device on a one half of area of my face between the lip and nose and pulse once. Then I move it to the other half and pulse it once. Next is the chin area where I pulse once for the right and once for the left side. The red light it emits is very bright and it pulses out a nanosecond of heat. So it is not necessarily uncomfortable, but you definitely notice that energy is being produced. There is a gentle mode for first-time users, but I am taking it to level 11 (not literally) because I am ready to get rid of unnecessary hairs! Since it has only been 2 weeks and this can take up to 12 weeks to notice a stop in hair growth, I have no opinion on if it truly works as advertised. But I am so looking forward to finding out the answer! Stay tuned! FYI, in the picture I submitted, the large oval button is the button you push to either emit one pulse or if you hold it down, it pulses continuously every 2 seconds. The next circular button with the light icon is how you change intensity.
Easy to use and I am happy so far.
So far I am happy with the Venus Silk-expert IPL and excited to keep using it. The first thing I suggest is to read everything really well before starting. Don't just take it out of the box and start zapping yourself! For example I didn't realize I had to shave the area first before using the device. IPL is also not indicated for certain darker skin tones or for light color hairs. Another tip is to be careful and not look at the light when the device is activated. That pulse of light is really bright and a bit blinding. So I suggest to place the device , look away and then press the button to activate it. Just make sure to read all the instructions and rules before starting. On my first go around I did my legs and underarms. I had never done this before so I jumped when the device zapped. I felt like a sharp zap and a hot feeling. It really was not painful but you do feel it. Once I did it several times it got easier, especially after I knew what to expect. That uncomfortable feeling only lasts seconds anyways so that is OK with me. I went slowly zapping section by section. It only took me about 7 minutes to do each leg. It is a bit challenging to remember exactly where I zapped previously but overlap of one or 2 pores shouldn't matter much I don't think. I am happy that I did not experience any redness after using the device. No other strange side effects either. It has been a week since I first used the device and my hairs are growing back out. I expected this though because the device has to be used weekly for a couple of weeks before you start seeing results. So don't expect to be hair free right away. I am a patient person so I will continue. It is so tedious having to shave every 2 or 3 days so this method is very worth it to me. This is much less painful than my epilator that pulls the hairs out. The device is fast and easy to use and the zapping feeling is tolerable for me. So I definitely will keep using it and I can't wait to see the results after a couple of weeks.
So Stinking excited!!Thank you Braun and BzzAgent
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm very excited about this new campaign. When I was accepted I couldn't stop smiling. I am not overly hairy but I have more than I'd like to have and always been very self-conscious. Now that Braun has given me the opportunity to try their product free, I cannot wait to get started! With the unboxing I thought that it was very nice. It looked expensive, well made...not too heavy and not too light. Wasn't sure what to expect when I used it the first time. It wasn't that bad. A tiny shock feeling but mostly warm. Occasionally I would hit a spot that must have been a little more sensitive but it wasn't terrible. After using, i didn't have any skin irritation, just felt like a very mild sunburn. It was very easy to use. As far as moving it around your area, you just have to find the way that works best for you. It is still early in the process but I can't wait to see the results! Yay!!
So far, so good
So far, so good on the intense pulse light. I thought that the install was easy and the directions were complete and easy to read and understand. I do wish that it gave an exact usage time. The directions say weekly. I wish I knew that for it to really work you need to use it 1x or 2x, etc a week. The first time I used it I realized that your skin needs to be COMPLETLY dry, mine wasn't and I got a little zap. The user also needs to make sure the area of free of hair. The glide motion for your legs is great. The life span to see if it works is 3 months, which is a little long but I am excited to see if it works. The act of doing the pulsing to prevent hair regrowth is about the same time as shaving.
Not quite convinced yet
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First, let me thank Gillette for sending me a free Gillette Venus Silk-expert to try and share my opinion. Packaging The box is pretty big for what comes in it. Maybe it's a standard shipping size but there's a lot of waste. That being said, there was very little plastic used for storage, so kudos on using recyclable material! Directions It took me a while to figure out how to use it, but once I did it's fairly simple. I would like to see more direction on how long you should wait before applying any lotion/deodorant, etc? Warnings There are a lot of warnings inside the package, including NO SUN FOR 7 DAYS in the treatment area. Because of this warning, I did not test my legs (it's summer, I'm wearing shorts and sun dresses). I tested arm pits and bikini area. Using The light flashes feel like pin pricks so if you're uber sensitive to pain, this may not be for you. It's also a slow process because you have to wait a few seconds between each flash. It also caused white splotches the first time I used it. Results to Date I've been using this for 3 weeks and hair regrowth has slowed. I have dark, almost black hair. Week 1 - able to not shave for 1 day, Week 2 - able to not shave for 1 1/2 days, Week 3 - able to not shave for 1 1/2 days. I'll continue to use and once autumn comes, and my legs go into hibernation, I'll test that too.
