Something has changed!

I don’t ever write reviews…..but these used to be my absolute favorite refried beans, and now I can’t even eat them!!!! The texture is different, and the taste- well, there really isn’t much of a taste any more!!!!!! I’ve started venturing out to find another brand to buy cause these are so horrible!

40 year old nacho recipe

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a recipe that I learned from a college friend in some 40 years ago! And the base of the dish is warming some of these beans and using it as the bottom layer in a casserole. They always taste the same and are always consistent

Taco Tuesday

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Old El Paso traditional refried beans has been a staple on the table every Taco Tuesday at our house over the years as the family grew up over the years. The beans are always consistent, delicious and tasty. Always a family favorite

Old El Paso is the Only Brand I Will Buy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Old El Paso is the only brand of refried beans that I buy. I especially appreciate they do a vegetarian version as well. Old El Paso refried beans taste great! And my family would agree! I use them when making tacos, burritos, tostadas, and fajitas. They add such great flavor! I've tried other brands over the years but none of them taste as good as Old El Paso brand. Even the vegetarian version (which is the only one my daughter will eat) is very flavorful and tastes the same as their traditional version.

Horrible - do not buy!!

I am writing this after trying a can of the new recipe refried beans! I’m so glad I tried them before putting them on my tacos. I licked the spoon and was repulsed. These have always been my favorite brand of beans. I thought it had to be my taste buds so I had my husband try them and he was just as disgusted. Do not waste your money!! Please get your old recipe back Old El Paso!!

Bake Them & Eat Them

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These beans are delicious & easy. We like to place them into a small casserole dish, add salsa & cheese, even some diced onion, and bake them at 350 degrees until they are bubbly. Our favorite is a double deck taco. A soft shell, smeared with these beans, add a Stand & Stuff shell and all the goodies. Fold it up, and you can have the crunchy corn, and soft flour taco, all in one. (Bonus: It doesn't fall apart!)

What in the world???

I grew up eating retried beans in TX and quickly discovered as a young adult that buying Old El Paso was worth it - every time. Other brands have never compared. Tonight, I opened a 31 oz can of the traditional retried beans I’ve purchase for 20 yrs+…. I usually drain them, and then place them in a bowl (generally still in the can shape, beginning to settle) and add a few pats of butter. Tonight, I couldn’t drain them without “the beans” pouring out of the can. Tried my best to eliminate liquid, added a bit of butter. After heating, mixing and allowing to cool - they are practically liquid! What in the world? I’ve bought these so many times over the last 2 yrs and have never experienced this…. Maybe in 2021, I’m just now getting to the cans of 2019 revamp??? That’s just crazy. Why in the world are they so watery? The taste is week. This has zero to do with customer input… no one would ask for less taste and more water… these won’t even “set” to build my dinner items. Ruined a meal we’ve relied on for years and years.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We love old El Paso. I use these beans for all kinds of recipes, most recently I used them in my enchiladas which came out amazing, these cut down on cooking time when I’m in a hurry and taste delicious! Thank you old El Paso for tasting amazing and being affordable for my family!

Horrible new taste

Used to be my favorite brand of retried beans. Today they had a very strong offputting metallic smell and had a chemical aftertaste. Since this seems to be something everyone is experiencing lately possibly bc of the new recipe, I will be switching to a new brand and never buy this again

Soupy runny beans

I have been buying these for years and opened a can tonight and it was completely runny and watery. I assume they are diluting to increase the profit. First the regular taco shells became super tiny and thin, and then the seasoning started tasting flavorless like filler, and now the beans are ruined. I've been buying Old El Paso products for at least 20 years--What is going on?
