Ever since early 2024 Dawn dish soap has been all wrong. Suddenly out of nowhere your company just decided to change the formula and no one even asked for this at all. Brought home the updated dish soap and it was an absolute disaster. Horrible smell and burning irritated hands and my sinuses were inflamed. I quickly threw it away and switched to another dish soap. About 1 year later I bought it again just to see if you changed anything and you did and it seemed to have another kind of smell but this time the smell was like a really strong perfume smell that lingers on your hands for hours and makes the pots, dishes, plastic containers smell very strongly of cheap perfume for days. I then threw that bottle away and noticed many other people on the website here complained of similar things. This past week as of June 2026 I bought it again to test it and it absolutely smells terrible. The smell reminds of overly strong carpet freshener or some really cheap shampoo and I hate it. I tried doing dishes with it and I couldn't. The smell made me angry. What is wrong with your company????? For years over the decades the smell of dawn dish soap was apart of American households. The original smell was classic and everyone loved it and it was a big part of washing the dishes. You even would wash ducks with it and they liked it. Something really changed in early 2024 when your company thought it was alright to destroy a perfectly good product. I personally have moved on from your product I now wash my dishes with Seventh Generation dish soap and it's wonderful and I don't need your lousy dish soap anymore. I can only imagine how many other customers have abandoned your product and I don't think you can ever get lots of your customer base back. Everything you make now smells like a joke and your company is a joke too.

I have been using dawn dish soap exclusively for over 20 years. I seriously have used nothing else as Dawn cuts grease like nothing else. I even use it on grease stains on my laundry - yes it removes set grease stains! I had been working my way through my stash and finally had to buy a new bottle. Lo and behold it has this HORRIBLE powerful smell that gives me headaches and I can taste in my dishes. I started researching the new scent and holy cow there are so many people with the same complaints of me. P&G has done nothing to adjust. They should make 2 scents!! Unfortunately Dawn just pushed me into the category of never buying again. I will have to find another brand that cuts grease.

As others have stated, I'd not give any stars if the option was available. This new fresh scent is far too overpowering, resulting in headaches whenever I've used it. Thank you Dawn for making the switch to a safer dish soap a necessity. Attitude dish soap works beautifully and has no repulsive scent.

Bring back old original scent and never change it again

The old formula was much better. I don't see the 50%less scrubbing. If anything, it rinses out of the sponge twice as fast. Meaning more soap per washing session, which equals buying more soap, which seems like less benefit for me. Previous formula all the way.

It's a brand that I've used before however one thing that I truly dislike that will deter me from repurchasing is that the fragrance is TOO STRONG. I rinse my plates off and I still smell the perfume on the plates and utensils. So I will not be getting this particular one again

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my go to for hand washing dishes that I can't put in the dishwasher. Never harsh on hands, and does well even if it's just a quick wipe down or even if it needs to soak. It's got a pleasant smell.

This is the only dishwashing liquid I have trusted for years. We don't have a dishwasher, so having a product I can trust to cut the grease and make my life easier, is a necessity. This helps cut some of the stains from that darn spaghetti sauce that just loves to linger, and rinses clean. My glassware doesn't have water spots left when drying either. If you wash your dishes by hand and need a good grease cutting dish soap, Dawn is the way to go.

I made sure to really put this to use before reviewing. I used it for my dishes, wash my car, clean my bathroom, wash my floors, and it was amazing! A little goes a long way, gets everything off the plate, and easy to wash off. The new lid to refill the smaller bottles is also amazing. I can't say enough nice things about this dishwashing liquid. I will definitely be keeping this as staple product for as long as they make it.

Dawn is awful now. They watered it down. The number one ingredient use to be denatured alcohol, and now it is water. Just absolutely trash now.
