The new scent is terrible.
I’ve been using Dawn forever and I loved the scent! It was the mail reason I would use it for everything from dishes to cleaning my shower to helping get the grease stains out of my husband mechanic clothes.. I can’t stand the new smell now though so I’m looking for a new soap.

Awful "New" smell
I didn't realize I purchased the new "clean scent" and it took me a few times of washing dishes to figure out what the awful smell was coming from. It reminds me of the fake smelling scented trash bags which for me leads to an instant headache. I have always used Dawn, but will be pruchasing a new brand unless they go back to the original scent.

The only change that's occurred to the Refreshing Rain fragrance is the name. We dropped the "re" and the "ing", so it's now just called, "Fresh Rain". While we do work very hard to make sure all will love their purchase, we understand everyone is unique. Strange scent
I am a loyal user of regular Dawn, I love it's grease cutting properties and it has been my favorite dish soap for many years. I recently purchased the Dawn Platinum refreshing rain scent. Although it cleans well, it has a horrible scent, I thought there was something moldy in the kitchen, it took me a while to realize it was the dish soap!
We are sorry to hear you aren't enjoying the slight increase in perfume. We did have a formula upgrade in February 2022, but we wouldn't expect this to result from it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Dawn platinum has been the best dish detergent. The dish soap lathers up very nicely and hits the problem areas. Washing stuck on grease on pots and pans is a breeze now. Especially the stubborn casserole dishes. Dawn platinum is well worth it value.
Why did you do that??
I've been using Dawn Platinum exclusively for years, last time I purchased it I just grabbed the "big blue bottle" off of the store shelf and brought it home. A couple weeks later when my old bottle ran out I went to the pantry, grabbed my new soap, and started washing dishes. I almost fainted the smell is sooooo bad!!! It smells like an overpowering vintage perfume. Why would you do that?? Its bad enough that I'm trying to get rid of the garlic smell from my dishes and pans but once you mix the 2 together, I just cant even explain how bad it is. I give it 2 stars because I still like the cleaning power however due the smell I can not use it for my dishes. Please bring back the old formula. Only solution for this bottle would be to dilute it and add it to my bucket of floor cleaner to wash the floors.

New scent & formula is disappointing
I'm so sad the scent has changed. It makes me wonder what else has. I've used Dawn exclusively for over 30 years. I just did a load of dishes and was surprised it's changed so much. Not happy with the scent. Very disappointed. Will be switching to a different dish soap. Send recommendations this way!

Change the scent of Dawn Platinum
I have always used Dawn and loved it but this new scent the Dawn Platinum has is awful! I didn’t know the scent had changed and thought a stink bug was in my dispenser. I took the thing apart and no bug, I realized it was the new scent. I have a huge bottle and can’t use it because it makes me nauseous.

Bad overpowering perfume Dawn
The fresh new scent Dawn dish soap is horrible! It stinks! It smells like somebody’s bad perfume. It doesn’t work like original Dawn and I want the original Dawn back, but I can’t find it anywhere. I am very unhappy that this scent is sticking to my plastic cups and when I pour my milk in my cup, even though I rinse that cup out very well repeatedly, I smell perfumy detergent instead of the milk. Stop messing with Dawn dishwashing liquid. You’re ruining a great product!

As well, we put a lot of thought into creating features that we think you'll like, but we understand that preferences can vary. We'd like to mention that we haven't made any changes to our Dawn Original formula since 2022, when it was updated to help dissolve both everyday grease and tough, cooked-on messes quickly and easily. We wouldn't expect Dawn to impart the scent into your dishes, but if the soap hasn't been completely rinsed off or if your dishes are worn to the point of being porous, it's possible. It might help to know that cast iron and plastic items can absorb flavors. We suggest not letting these items soak, and making sure to rinse them immediately and thoroughly. While we don't currently have plans to reintroduce our previous Dawn Original scent, we do have other Dawn versions available. If you'd prefer a lighter scent, you may be interested in trying out our Dawn Free & Clear. We heavily rely on feedback such as this, and your comments will be shared. Horrible smell
Simply cannot tolerate the smell. Took me a couple of days to realize that it was actually the dish soap since I've used Dawn for years but the first time I used Dawn platinum. Not any more. Gave the two bottles I purchased away. The smell literally stays on the dishes. Will not buy again

If certain items always pick up a scent, they might be worn to the point of being porous and can absorb scent if they soak too long. It might help to know that cast iron and plastic items can absorb scent in general. Disgusting new smell
Unsure of who decided to change the scent and who agreed to it, the whole departments should get fired. The new scent smells like a cheap overpowering laundry soap, too strong and too “cheap”. Make a new scent? Sure! But don’t discontinue the original accent.
