Not worth the money saved buying in bulk

The first couple we ordered were fine, but the last one had so much grizzle and hard bits that can't even be chewed. We are trying so hard to make it through the rest of it so it's not money wasted.

Too much bone, gristle, and fat

Normally when I buy this I love it and would give it 5 stars. But this time I don't even want to eat it. Out of the 10 pounds I bought, probably 8 pounds had bone bits in it. Nothing worse than biting into bone with your meal. While there wasn't a lot of grease (thankfully!), there were a lot of gristle and fat bits that wouldn't render down in almost every bite. I don't know what happened during the making of this, but I really don't even want to eat it. I bought this in April 2024, it is now July 2024, and I still have at least 5 pounds from this chub left. I find myself avoiding meals with hamburger so I won't have to eat bone, gristle, or fat chunks. So disappointed.

Quality changed at the end of October 2025

Buyer beware. I have been buying this ground beef for a while now. It's one of the main reasons I joined Sams Club. Months ago, the price was 4.98 lb then out of the blue, the price was increased to 5.72 lb. I still bought it because of the quality, it was still very reasonably priced. On Oct 19th, they canceled the 2 packs I ordered. On Oct 20th I tried ordering again thinking it was a fluke but again, it was canceled. I called my club in Melbourne Fl and was told that they were indeed out of stock. On October 23rd, I ordered it again and noticed that the price had dropped from 5.72lb to 5.22lb. I was tickled pink until I received the meat. I noticed it looked more like 80% than 90%. I confirmed that this time out, what Sam's is selling as 90/10 is more like 80/20 if that. The amount of grease it gave out when I fried the hamburgers was quite large. Here is my take on what happened...Sams switched suppliers hence the interruption in the availability and went with a cheaper supplier. The result is that while we may be getting a break on the price, the quality has gone done incredibly and selling this fatty meat as 90/10 is deceptive. I'm going to speak with Sams customer service about this and encourage you to do the same. If you're doing a barbecue, this meat will do but if you're frying it indoors or cooking indoors with it, prepare yourself for a fat fest.

YUK x 10

Two weeks ago we purchased a 10lb roll of 90/10. This was the most disgusting ground beef ever! Buyers need to get this problem fixed with their suppliers and ENSURE that only the best is being shipped to Sam's Club locations. At present we are looking at options to send some of this yuk to have it lab tested. Again, the buyers need to reaffirm with their suppliers that ONLY the best highest quality meat will be accepted in the Sam's network of warehouse locations throughout the USA!!!!!

BEWARE! It is NOT always 90%/10% - gristle/fat

Don't expect 90%/10%! Very disappointed in this product. Lots of fat and gristle. It is NOT Sam's quality. They say you can always "bring it back. . ." but I am handicapped, have a 24/7 caregiver . . . it's NOT easy to do. Safer to buy what they grind there at the store, this is brought in, I've been told from numerous suppliers; some good, some not so good! BEWARE! 90%/10% should be wonderful burger, NOT this one.

Not Lean - Very fatty

I usually buy the 90/10 version in the pack, not the chub and it is very good. When I make this chub meat, it cooks up VERY greasy. Both times we have had it for meals (tacos and spaghetti), I have literally picked large pieces of fat from my mouth. I think I'm just going the toss the rest. I do not believe it is 90/10 as listed. Perhaps 70/30?

Magots found in the meat.

Have bought this several times in the past and was pleased with the product but after our purchase on May 25th we will never buy the bulk rolls again. We picked it up, took it home and sectioned it into several sections. Then vacuum sealed it and froze it. On June 24th we pulled a package out of the freezer to defrost. When we thawed it out there appeared to be some objects in the meat. Turned out to be Magots (dead). Had to discard all of it to be safe.

Paid extra for the 90% lean for nothing

I bought this very recently and paid the higher price for the 90% lean. I'm currently browning it for a recipe and my pan is half-full of beef fat grease. I'm familiar with how 90% lean cooks up and this is not 90% lean. Don't waste your money. See the included pic. That's about 6 pounds of meat and a ton of melted beef fat. 90% lean? That's closer to 80/20 or even 75/25.

Dishonest weight and lean content labeling

Every time we have gotten this each tube is about half a pound less than what it says and last time it was not more than 85% when it was labeled 90%. it was SO greasy!!! We have just stopped buying this meat from Sam's Club because their meat dept is so dishonest.
