Customer reviews for Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker forLoved the first one at home so much - I bought a 2nd one for my office!
This Coffee Maker makes the perfect cup of coffee each time! My family bought one for me last year - I liked it so much I bought a second one for my office! I like the flexibility to make one cup or several - and the flexibility to make my coffee to suit me personally is really valued.
Super High Quality Coffee, Concerns about build quality over time
We're about a week in with our new Aiden and I cannot rave enough about the quality of coffee that comes out of this machine. Setup is easy and tweaking brewing profiles is now a full time hobby. My one and only concern is how long the build quality will hold up. In particular, the handle on the carafe feels wobbly and the quality of the plastic used seems like its ripe for cracks over time. I hope I'm wrong, because I've never had a better cup of coffee out of a drip machine!
Amazing pour over results with superior programmability, fit, finish and feel.
Exceptional coffee from this versatile automatic pour over machine. That's the whole idea, right? Replaces our chemex and clever very nicely, and takes only a bit more counter space. Fit, finish and feel are so nice. Programability lets you experiment and dial in. So fast to heat, so much flexibility. Water storage is great. The cold brew feature is a pleasant surprise with really good results. Beautiful design guys! Really. Two things for the s/w team to consider: 1) improve the dial's sensitivity. Several seconds to respond occasionally. 2) feature add: would it be possible to dial in volumes, rather than limit to 1/2 cup increments? One thing for whole team: 1) could the display indicate “low water” before brew start? ATM, only lets you know when out of water, mid brew.
Bricked itself first hour
Received last week after waiting four months. Turned on, set time, put on my network. Realized the application is not even at an MVP state yet. Ran just water brew with no grinds. After done was using front dial to do another. Interface froze. Powered off by unplugging cord as there is no power button. Plugged back in. Nothing. Black screen. Dead. Unplug, plug, dead. Ok, new product I'll contact support they'll ship a new one out. These things happen. Nope. Contact support. Tell them everything I did for their own troubleshooting purposes. They respond to reboot my router. I explained again this thing is bricked they mis interpreted something. When the product isn't ready you better have good support. When both are at 1 star levels, I'm done with Fellow entirely.
I love the coffee maker
I love the coffee maker and the coffee it makes. The only thing I can see is to improve is the "how to get started/make your first coffee tutorial". The guided process is awesome but I didn't see that anywhere. Doing it the first time answered all my questions and was really easy.
Perfect machine!
Aiden is my new morning bff. He gets up and makes me coffee when I don't want to. Love the interface with Fellow Drops. And I even get a little notification “Your coffee is ready!” on my phone. The app was simple to set up and is great with iOS. Happy!
Approaching perfection
Got this to replace our Cafe brewer because its display started malfunctioning just after the warranty ran out (also, after 12 months of use, it no longer looked so premium: turns out the metallic highlights are painted plastic). It makes absolutely fantastic coffee. I mean the Cafe brewer does a lot better than many machines, but it's not even in the same league as the Aiden. There are a few minor issues that together lead me to deduct a star: 1. The markings on the water reservoir are virtually unreadable and it's difficult to see the water level, too. Reservoir should be clear with bright white markings, which should be about 50% larger. Wouldn't hurt to have a light in the reservoir like some of the Keurigs have (if I'm allowed to say the K-word here). I have resorted to keeping a flashlight next to the brewer, which is absurd. 2. Occasionally the brewer complains that there is no water. Reseating the reservoir fixes it. Last time it happened, that didn't clear the problem, which key happening, and I had to fiddle with the valve on the bottom of the reservoir to resolve it. Will keep an eye on this. 3. The brewing guidance, which recommends the amount of coffee to use, results in very strong coffee. Of course you can ignore the Aiden's recommendation if you want, but it'd be nice to have a "how strong do you like it" setting to attenuate this. In Fellow's defense, their recommendation does really bring out all the flavors latent in the coffee. Our KitchenAid grinder's output, which is based on the number of cups you tell it you're brewing, is more in line with the intensity we prefer, so we'll just use that. The Aiden wants you to use about 50% more grounds by weight. 4. The app needs a notification when a brew cycle is done. I found that really useful with the Cafe brewer and it seems like the first and most obvious feature you'd put on an app, but it's not there. On the plus side, this thing really is masterfully designed. I dont need to pull it out from under the cabinet to fill the water reservoir or to load the grounds, and there is no steam coming out of the top when brewing (we resorted to putting a folded tea towel on top of our previous brewers to prevent steam from ruining the bottom of the cabinet). Even the carafe is smartly made, maximizing volume by using a cylindrical shape, which also makes it easy to pour compared to the odd shapes used in other brewers, and easy to clean too. The knob for removing the lid is also where the brewed coffee goes in and is shaped to raise the output valve in the brewer when the carafe is in place. Three functions in one little bit of plastic! Now if the brewer could just stop brewing when the carafe overflows because some idiot (me) forgot to empty out yesterday's dregs... in my defense, I hadn't had my coffee yet! I nitpick because the Aiden is so great, I can't really find anything significant to complain about.
Cool and fun new product!
As usual with Fellow products, the Aiden is a well-thought-through device that looks cool on your countertop. They have considered every facet of coffee brewing and come up with a nice solution for it. The coffee profiles are cool - I was one of the early orders and received 3 free bags of coffee and the Aiden automatically loaded the coffee profiles. It brews a good cup or pot of coffee. This latter point is really nice - if you want to brew a pot for 2-3 people, it saves you the time of making a separate pour over for everyone. Some things to know about the Aiden - not negatives but just topics for consideration. I got the Aiden thinking it would be a nice way to save time brewing coffee, particularly for those mornings where I am rushing to get on a call. I would say it might save some time, but only marginally so. You still need to measure and grind your beans, pre-wet your filter, pour fresh water and sift your ground coffee (if you do that). So, the only thing it automates is the actual pouring of the water. But it does that well and the profiles and overall configurability are cool. The one feature I wish it did have is the ability to specify the amount of ground coffee and use that to back your way into the amount of water you need. If you use the Shimmy to sift your coffee, you might start off with 40g of coffee and end up with 35.8g of ground coffee. But there isn't a way to tell the Aiden "I have 35.8g of coffee. Now brew the right amount based on this." The app setup worked fine for me. I have seen some complaints about this but I didn't have any issues. Overall a cool and fun new product and I can imagine them adding more features to it as time goes on.
Like having a professional barista at home.
Hands down the best automatic brewing device I have purchased. I have worked in specialty cafes for years, and this lil' countertop brewer keeps up with (and usually outperforms) most commercial batch brewers. I am able to consistently brew pourover-style cups while eliminating some of the annoying variables that come with brewing manually. I give it a 5/5, although I wish it was made with a bit more metal in some places rather than plastic. Would love some metal brew basket options as well for less plastic exposure.
It's a love/hate relationship with Aiden
OK... had this about a month now... LOVE it because it saves me time and it brews some very good coffee for my wife and I. DISLIKE it because the app and Aiden itself really doesn't come with a lot of the features as promised out the box... more like a coming soon thing... HATE that the most recent app update (1.1.0) somehow broke the bluetooth connection to my Aiden and after a week plus of troubleshooting with Fellow rep I'm getting a replacement. Hoping the replacement has no issues. Overall I'm still happy with the purchase and that Fellow is sending a replacement first before I return the old unit, but I can't help having the feeling of wishing it did everything that was promised, with no hiccups from day one.
