Delicious canned tuna
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We received this from Stellar Product Testing Panel and were very pleased with the taste and quality of this tuna. We liked that it was packed in oil. First impression of the tuna was quality and good appearance. We made a tuna salad to use a cracker dip with it and it was delicious.
Tuna elevated
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently tried Rio Mare Solid Light Wild Tuna in Olive Oil (4.2oz) and the first thought that came to my mind was: this is tuna, elevated! The texture was unlike any other canned tuna I've tried, and I've had my share. I was not brand loyal when it came to tuna and have tried many. This one was the most moist, smooth tuna I've ever had. I opted to make a simple tuna salad sandwich so I could really taste the product and I think this brand has really won me over. Truly the only con I can think of is the price tag, which is a decent bit higher than other standard options. However, when I considered how much better it tasted, and that I got two servings out of it, I could rationalize the additional cost. I was given this canned tuna product to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel but will continue to purchase it for myself going forward as I am now a fan!
Great quality ingredients
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's a premium canned seafood option known for its clean flavor and firm texture. Packed in high-quality olive oil, the tuna retains a rich, savory taste that complements salads, sandwiches, and pasta dishes.
Superb canned tuna
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this canned tuna product from the Stellar Product Testing Panel. Overall, I enjoyed the wild tuna. When I opened the can, the pieces looked very moist and not dry like some other canned tunas I've tried. The texture was tender and spreadable, likely thanks to the olive oil that was tasty as well. We used the tuna a couple different ways by placing it on top of a sliced baguettes and as the main filling in homemade tuna kimbap. Both ways turned out great and delicious. The cans arrived in a 3 pack of 2.3oz each, which is a bit more premium than standard tunas but the quality, flavor, and the fact it is sustainably caught is worth it. If you see it in stores, I would not hesitate to grab this 3-pack for your pantry. Enjoy the texture, the fresh thick pieces, and have a piece of mind as it adheres to strict MSC (fishing) standards.
Expensive But DELICIOUS W/O Adding Anything To It!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I don' normally like tuna because the other brands usually taste either too mushy or too dry and bland, etc. but this tuna was so delicious right out of the can without having to add anything to it! I did not need to add any mayo because it was already moist from the oil and I did not have to add any tuna salad ingredients like: celery, pickles, grapes, dried cranberries, dill weed, etc. because it tasted flavorful all on its own! This saved me time from having to chop and add and mix all of those things! It saved me dishes from not having to wash a knife, cutting board and bowl from having to chop and mix those things! It also saved me money from having to buy all of those extra things to mix with them to have to mask and cover up or distract or add other textures or flavors to make it more edible or palatable! However, it was too difficult to access and get out of the can though; there wasn' much space for my large round cracker(s) to dip into the tiny can to scoop it out like a spoon! Also, it was packed so firmly and tightly (or the texture of the tuna was too tough and firm) for my cracker to scoop out without breaking every single cracker with my every attempt! I feel like it was false advertising that on their package it states that it is so tender they you could cut this tuna with a breadstick! This was not my experience at all since all of my crackers broke which was frustrating because then there wasn' enough surface area on my crackers to place the chunks of tuna and it made a mess of crumbs from the breaking as well! It made it messier for my fingers to have to pick up or scoop with my fingers and because the smaller broken crackers caused less surface area so the oil had no where to go but drip down and touch my fingers which made my fingers an oily mess! (It’s a good idea to have napkins handy when eating these)! I was shocked & disappointed that there was no nutritional facts nor ingredients listed on the cans which was upsetting (and I think illegal?) because I wanted to refer to that info in writing my review and could not! I had to hunt down the particle board package to look up the info. It looks like it states that it is imported from Italy so maybe their laws about informing consumers of the ingredients and nutritional facts on the cans is different and more lenient. However, if imported here, I would think that they would still need to comply with our laws to be sold here! Therefore, I am puzzled by that and not happy about that. I like that there are only 3 ingredients and all natural (only tuna, olive oil and salt) and no chemicals and preservatives and junk. I like that they mention that they use sustainable fishing methods. I don' know if that is true or not, because I watched a documentary once that showed that a lot of “sustainable” companies actually were in fact not at all, but if they actually are sustainable then I think that is really cool. There is a part of me that thinks the small can size is fitting for a small snack or lunch at work or school, etc. but the other part of me and most of me actually thinks this can is WAY TOO SMALL especially for the EXORBITANTLY EXPENSIVE price which is approximately 3 times /triple the price of other cans of tuna but WAY SMALLER of a portion than other cans of tuna! (You pay MORE and for LESS product)! However, this is one of the MOST DELICIOUS things or tuna I’ve eaten, so maybe that’s why it costs more (“you get what you pay for”) because maybe it’s like a more gourmet version, species variety or body section of tuna or more of a gourmet way of cutting/chopping or processing it? Or maybe the other tunas are cheaper because they are packed with water which is cheaper? And maybe this is more expensive because it is packed with olive oil which is more expensive than water? Or maybe it costs more because of importing fees and shipping costs from another country? I don' know. I am ignorant when it comes to tuna but if you are looking for your next comfort food this might be it for you because I think it has become my new comfort food! I also like the convenience of how it might be a very quick and easy meal or snack or appetizer with this tuna on crackers! This would also be ideal for hot summer nights when it is too hot to cook but where you could still get some protein without heating up your house from cooking meat! You’d also be getting your bread group in with the crackers! This might also be ideal for a charcuterie board for guests for hospitality and might also be useful for those who are chronically ill and/are too overwhelmed and/or too busy to cook or wash dishes afterwards. I used a paper plate but am worried if I had used cheap plastic silverware to scoop out the tuna that it also might have broken like my crackers! If I might have to use a sturdier metal silverware to pry the firm tuna out, I would not be happy about that because that would mean more dishes for me to wash! In conclusion, there are many pros and cons to this product and thus, would depend on your priorities whether you would like this product or not and whether it would be a good fit for you or not.
Delicious Italian style tuna
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tuna tastes luxurious, but it's only a small splurge! I have tried other Italian style tuna and really enjoy them. What makes them different from your run of the mill canned tuna is they use high-quality fish that is marinated in olive oil for an extended amount of time. The Rio Mare Solid Light Wild Tuna in Olive Oil was not very dense, with a texture that almost melts in your mouth. The little bit of sea salt and the olive oil complement the tuna really well. I do think there could be more oil in the can, but the tuna was not dry at all. I enjoyed a can for lunch with a quinoa-rice blend. It was great. I received this canned tuna product from the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
Best tuna I have tried in a long time
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thanks to Stellar Product Testing Panel for letting test this delicious tuna! My family and I love tuna and this taste really beat all other kinds we have eaten. The flavor was very clean and fresh. Just pure tuna flavor, not fishy and no preservative oily taste. The texture was spot on too. No gritty or sliminess to it, just a nice flake. We first ate it plain to get the taste, then my husband loved it so much he made a sandwich out of it. I would definitely pick up a can of this tuna at the store. The price and the quality matched up perfectly. This is saying a lot as my husband is very picky and does cheaper options a lot and he was crazy about this tuna too. Would recommend to a friend!!!
Delicious and more than one way to use it
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My family of 6 loves to eat Tuna in general but this Rio Mare solid light wild tuna was new for us and we loved trying it! I made a tuna salad out of the 3 cans of 2.3oz and the placed them onto a waffle/croissant and the kids loved it! It takes great in a salad or by itself. Good portion size but I do wish it was a little bit bigger in size for larger families. We've enjoyed it so much, we plan on purchasing more soon! Compared to other tuna's we've had in the past this one is not as salty as others were. I try to find the most nutritious and less sodium, as well as wild tuna. The color of the tuna stood out the most to us. It was appealing to the eyes, even to our picky eaters. I love that it's not heavily drained in oil like others were. Easy to eat, I think this tuna would be delicious mixed with some asparagus and pasta. Highly recommend it based on my positive experience. I received this product through Stellar Product Testing Panel in exchange for my honest opinion.
Great taste
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a tuna-loving family, my boys were very excited to see a new type of tuna in our pantry. They couldn't wait to eat it and dove right into it, eating it straight out of the can. They really loved the Rio Mare Solid Light Wild Tuna in Olive Oil. It had fantastic smell, texture, and taste and the boys are begging for me to buy it again. For us, it will be a bit of a treat since it does have a higher price point than other tunas (because let me tell you, we can put away some tuna over here). But if you want real tuna, this is the stuff. Thanks to Stellar Product Testing Panel for letting us try this tuna.
Loved it
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Absolutely delicious tuna. It tasted fresh with a rice and veggie salad Nicoise style. Olive oil was perfect to keep tuna moist. I will buy again and try with pasta or pizza. Price is not too expensive for the size.
