I've had this player for a couple of years now and I have only one real complaint. This complaint may sound trivial but if you are like me and enjoy taking a look at details in films by using freeze frame and frame by frame then this design flaw (IMHO) will annoy you too. I've never had a video player (even my first VHS in the 80's) that you couldn't hold down the forward or reverse frame by frame button and and watch the frames tick by. Well... on this 21st century DVD, you have to manually push the buttons 20, 30, 40 times to find the frame you're looking for! RIDICULOUS!!! Otherwise.... this is a great little unit!!

I'm renting for 3 months and needed a small low cost DVD player with HDMI output. Small because I will place it in storage until I return next year and since I pay for volume of storage I wanted small. The player does what it was designed for without frills and can display closed captions. Meets all my needs.

Looking at the way this product was presented on line, it looked like this dvd player would play HD movies, i.e. blu ray. I put a hd movie(blue ray) in the dvd player and it would not play. I looked at the box the sony dvd player came in and it stated it would "upscale" regular dvd movies to HD, which was not what I was looking for.

Just needed a dvd player for bedroom tv. This is small enough, and easy to set up. I got it because any other I might chose did not have HDMI connection. Only two negatives at this point. 1. you can only open/close with the remote. 2. the only display light is the power on/off light which is so small you can't see it unless your standing right over it. While except able, it is rather slow to respond.

I bought one of these three years ago and replaced it with second one recently. After about 2 years the first one I purchased started occasionally displaying the message "can not play disk." As time progressed it was unable to play 90% of the disks I put in it (My two other DVD players have no problem playing the same disks). The menu system for this player is more intuitive and user friendly than some players, but in some ways it's irritating. It takes far took many steps to zoom in to or repeat a section of video. It's also irritating that the ON light is so tiny and dim it's nearly impossible to see across the room. On the positive side, the picture quality is excellent and I like that you can speed it up or slow it down a little and the sound still works - that's great for fast forwarding through a dull section of a film. But the competition appeared to be even worse, so when my original unit failed I replaced it with another of the same model.

I bought this as an upgrade to my existing DVD player which died. It enhances existing DVDs up to 1080p HD. It also has a HDMI jack which improves the clarity and sound of the player. I was getting interference from the old 3 jack rca connectors. I am very happy with my purchase. And for $39.99, the price cannot be beat.

i purchased this model because it had the hdmi output, so i get it home and the hdmi output didnt work so i hook the av cables and it work fine. so i decided to return and get another one and same problem hdmi output will not function. i tryed a few sets of hdmi cables and no luck. having the hdmi option is the only reason i purchased this model . so i dont recommend this player

I wanted a DVD/CD player to replace a big DVR that I had for about 12 years or longer. While the old one was a huge, this is a nice low profile player that was very easy to set up. I have the HDMI connection from the TV, and the component cables for the audio from my stereo receiver so I can hear through my speakers. You can do that all with the HDMI, but I only have one out HDMI slot on my stereo receiver, being already in use. I like that the player boots right up when I put in a DVD and also can play CDs. I specifically got this because it says plays DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD R etc. I have some DVDs I recorded myself and it plays them. I haven't set any of the settings yet but I don't think I will. I just wanted one that shows a clear picture and doesn't take up much room. The remote is fairly intuitive to figure out, as I did not spend much time reading directions. It is smaller than it looks in the picture. The old one it replaced was huge, a player/recorder with various ways to connect. I guess not much use for recording these days. And boy, prices sure have gotten better than when I got that big one. No complaints, it lasted a long time.

Bought this player yesterday. Watched 1 movie last night. Worked fine. Tried watching 2 different movies today. The DVD stopped playing several times. Each time we would have to Open; wait; and finally play. Sometimes it would start and other times it would not.

I only purchased this DVD player to watch red box movies and select DVD's i already have. Our family uses the apple TV to stream other movies most often. The DVD player was a decent price - wish it was cheaper than 40 dollars considering most people have blu ray players and other streaming devices to watch movies and etc. regular DVD players are obsolete and should cost less than 30 dollars. I needed it so I bought it to do my T-25 workouts.
