A DVD player is typically operated from from the front but this unit has button labels which can only be viewed from the top. To operate this at eye level the buttons need temporary labels until which is which is learned. Bad ergonomics. Also, the remote is not designed for ease of one handed button pressing. Again, bad ergonomics. To its credit is the inclusion of HDMI output and it worked right out of the box; no set-up required.

This abomination is truly an example of "you get what you pay for". The most annoying "feature" (that by the way can NOT be disabled), is the auto power off. You walk away from it on pause for maybe 15 minutes, it'll turn itself off. Then to cycle power, it takes 30 seconds or so. It needs to boot up, then power up the CD section, spin up the CD, then the screen will be blank until you hit play. Then it has to spool up the video. If I had not thrown away the packing material (my luck the trash pick up happened right after I put the box out), I would have returned the unit for a refund. Biggest gripe - that auto off feature that cannot be disabled.

This DVD player arrived on time and was packaged well. It was hooked up and it will not play the DVD's. You can hear the DVD spinning inside the unit, but it doesn't work. Now i will have to take it back. Not happy and either was my 5-year-old son who was so excited to watch his movie.

This DVD/CD player does a good job of pkaying a variety of different formats/file types. It is quite slow starting up and beginning to play a disc. The biggest thing I dislike about this unit is that there is no display. You are unable to determine which track is playing on the disc. Overall it's a good very basic CD/DVD player.

Was looking for a high quality but inexpensive DVD player with HDMI and I found it. Great quality and the video resolution looks fantastic on my hi-def TV. It looks much better than an older DVD player I was using on the same TV. I highly recommend to folks.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was a replacement for the one I already had that wore out. Finding the exact same one that I already liked was a bonus as it was so easy to plug a new one in and I didn't need to learn a new remote and setup.

Not exactly what I wanted, but more than I expected. When I purchased this, I hadn't truly read the description. When I got it, I was mildly surprised and excited. Does what I want, is easy to set up, and is easy to use. Love it and will possibly buy one for my office.

I purchased this unit to replace an older unit that had RCA jacks only. This one has both the HDMI and RCA jacks (red,white, yellow). I am using the HDMI connection and wow, what a difference. Both the picture and the sound quality are so much better. You have to furnish the HDMI jack. This one came with the RCA jacks. I purchased a new led TV and some of the videos had picture quality issues. It seemed to be associated with the RCA connections. Well, the TV likes the new connection much better. I've been using it for about one month so I can't speak to durability. It has flawlessly played every thing I've put in the tray, so far. One complaint, however, no fluorescent display on the player. You have to call it up on the screen.

Christmas gift for my elderly parents and I hooked it up for them. I tried 4 different DVDs and one CD (a DVD player will play a CD) and the player was “unable to read” all of these. Disappointed in a Sony product but I will be returning to Walmart and I'll get an identical unit and give Sony a 2nd chance.

This dvd player works great right out of the box. Easy to set up and use when hooked up to the tv with a HMDI cable which you must buy separately. This importtant fact that there is no cable included is the only reason for the 4 star rating instead of a 5 star rating.
