Good for the price minor issues

The size and ease of setup are very good. The picture and sound quality using the HDMI port is very good, it actually appears to upgrade the video quality vs an older DVD player. I have noticed a few instances where the picture freezes for a second or two and it affects the entire DVD disc. Others play fine. I have not yet found one that will not play and we have have hundreds of personally recorded movies. When I find one that freezes I simply burn a copy on my computer and it clears the problem, well, so far anyway. It appears it does not like the off brand el cheapo DVD discs that we used several years ago. Over all it rates between a 3 and a 4 star. Longevity yet to be determined. Bang for the buck is good!

This DVD player has no display or visual feedback when a button is pushed on the remote. It actually take a few seconds (up to 5) for the player to respond to the remote. This leads me to push the button multiple times and each time it countermands the previous push. If you want a cheap upscaling player this is it and it works pretty good but the upscaling in not top notch. If I hd it to do over then I would buy a better one.

BOTH OF MINE HAVE BEEN RUNNING FOR 2 + YEARS....

AND I EXPECT THEM TO RUN MANY MORE YEARS. THE BOTH OF MINE HAVE BEEN WORKHORSES AS I DO A LOT OF RECORDING WORK AND THESE SONYS HAVE BEEN UP TO THE TASK. CLEAN THEM REGULARLY AND THEY ARE GOOD TO GO. I'M NOT A BIG FAN OF SONY THINGS AS THEIR ITEMS ARE PRICEY AND THEY WANT TO CRAM BLUE RAY DOWN OUR THROATS, BUT FOR THE MONEY, THESE ARE TOPS.

HDMI really is better

The HDMI is definitely better than the old coaxial cables. One plug from the player to the TV and the picture is Much sharper than it was with the old coaxial DVD player. Some of my DVDs are full screen on my TV screen for the first time. Like it a lot!

Don't bother

Cheap piece of machinery. Doesn't recognize the movie format. Must manually set if older black/white movie. Even letterbox of new color movies stretch the picture and people are wide and distorted. Gee each time you have to manually set the picture format but only 1 format really works. Newer movies if set to “normal” it's a small square box in middle of screen. The remote has too many buttons and so small and close together so you have to look closely before choosing. It's cheap price so you get what you pay for. Cheap performance. Need to return - bought in store. Highly dissatisfied.

Easy to Use and Well Worth the Money and More

This was easy to set up (to replace a friend's dead DVD player) and use and merged well with her Sony HD TV. It should come with its own HDMI cable and add the $10, but again this unit is well worth the money and more. They should stock them in the stores too !

Replacement for the exact same Video Recorder

Bought the same model video recorder a few months ago. Excellent recorder until it stopped playing DVD's. Tried a laser lens cleaner but to no avail. Every recorder has problems with the laser lens getting dirty. Not easy to clean. Easier to just buy a new recorder as professional cleaning costs about the same as a new recorder. This model Sony recorder is the best one I have found producing a quality picture

Be sure to get your HDMI cord!

Was the easiest to hook up of anything we had tried! After trying two other dvd players, and having trouble with, and/or not knowing the right hook-ups to the items, we finally found one that matched the hdmi on the TV we have. We are now finally happy with this product.

Save yourself the trouble

This dvd player doesn’t even deserve one star. I tried 3 different players in one day. The first one wouldn’t even turn on, the second one wouldn’t read disc (you could hear it faintly turning but did nothing), the third I couldn’t get it to open to put a disk in. I burned through a half tank of gas going back-and-forth to the store so many times for this junk. My previous sony player didn’t even last a year with light use. They definitly aren’t what they use to be.

Another good Sony product.

It's very light and only 10" and on first try it works very well. I bought another Sony because one I've had for years has worked well and is still working on another t.v. set. One negative about this player is that the cables to hook it to the set are much too short. Luckily I had an extra, long set so used those and it works fine. The reaction from the remote to the set is a bit slow so wait for it. Fast but not instant.
