I purchased this DVD player online and picked it up at the store. After taking it home I easily connected the DVD player to my smart TV using an HDMI cable. While an RCA cable comes with the DVD player, I would highly recommend using an HDMI cable (sold separately) in order to obtain the highest quality picture and sound. The DVD player is about half the size of a DVD player I purchased roughly two decades ago and has a very simple button layout. The remote control is quite intuitive and comfortable after learning where a few noted buttons are. After connecting the DVD player to my smart TV with the HDMI cable and properly installing the AA batteries in the remote control, I went through the easy set-up process on the TV screen as advised by the simple to read paper instructions (included). I highly recommend this DVD player. It is easy to use and the picture and sound quality truly is fantastic with an HDMI cable. Thank you, SONY!

I bought this as a cheap CD/DVD player to use until I can retrieve my Blue-ray player from storage, at which point this will move to a guest room. It's cheap but it should last a few years. The Good: It's a decent, basic, DVD player for the price. Has played the DVDs, and CDs I've tried in it. Remote that will also work with a SONY TV if you have one. Upscales video to 1080p resolution, and it looks good to me. One of the smallest DVD players I've owned. Drawbacks: No optical digital output, though it does have an coax digital output. At this price that's to be expected. Only comes with RCA video/audio cable. Players should come with an HDMI cable at this point. Analog RCA sound output quality is what you'd expect for the price. The build quality is cheap, but good enough. I don't think I'd trust anything cheaper than this.

The main, and only relevant, thing is that the product works. Good luck, however, in actually using the thing, for the buttons both on the device and in the remote control have to be pressed SO HARD that you need both hands to do anything. I guess that Sony is taking care of the humble-income bracket. Small mercies for the grateful.

We wanted a quality HDMI DVD player to connect to the 24" Sceptre LCD TV that we also purchased from Walmart. Both item's are being used in our motorhome. The outdoor temperature the last few days was pleasant so we went camping. This gave us time to watch two movies. The DVD player worked well and so did the TV. We do own a Blu-ray player but it is picky at times playing a Blu-ray disc. Furthermore, Blu-ray discs are not always available. We feel like the Sony HDMI DVD player makes regular DVD's almost as detailed as our Blue Blu-ray discs.

It's very light and only 10" and on first try it works very well. I bought another Sony because one I've had for years has worked well and is still working on another t.v. set. One negative about this player is that the cables to hook it to the set are much too short. Luckily I had an extra, long set so used those and it works fine. The reaction from the remote to the set is a bit slow so wait for it. Fast but not instant.

Had some trouble turning system on and with the remote not wanting to work ; was about to return unit when remote began to work and the off/on button started to function, The HDMI direct cable hook up was very easy one to do . The cable cost almost as much as the unit itself

Fast delivery. On a small unit like this one, having the buttons on top keeps you from pushing it backwards into the cabinet. The up- conversion is good. I would prefer a zoom button on the remote, it only zooms from a sub-menu, but I doubt that you could find a better player at this price.

I am updating my wood shop and wanted to play the many woodworking videos that I own in the shop. I studied on it a long time as the workshop is not climate controlled, so wanted a quality player that could stand up to that environment. I read a lot of reviews and decided that the Sony was the one to purchase. After hooking it up I was not disappointed! The picture and sound are great and so far there has been no problems.

For all you people that have written the reviews you must not be very smart at all because everyone of you he said that this is a Blu-ray DVD player it is not a Blu-ray DVD player it is a basic DVD player upscale 2080 pixels it will not play Blu-ray DVD so obviously you're not that smart and you boughtSomething you wanted to be a DVD player for such a cheap price get a life

It plays DVDs. I understand it's old tech but it's really slow. Get used to waiting 5-10 seconds after pushing a button on your remote. I actually threw oh my old one because I thought it stopped functioning, I now wonder if I just lost patience due to how slow it was to react.
