The dvd player has worked fine since I got it simple to set up and good picture. I got it to replace the old one in the living room. To be honest I've had it now about 3 to 4 months and haven't used it that much I mostly use the blu-ray in my bedroom but this is a quality item and I haven't had any problems.

Overall this is a really great product considering the price. I had a dvd/vcr combo and it finally gave out on me so I needed a replacement. This product does what I need it to and the only problem I have with it is when I am trying to open it to put in a dvd it has a delay time and sometimes I have to push the button twice. Not a big deal but that is why I gave it a 4 star rating vs a 5 star rating.

The Sony DVD has a very sleek and modern design. I wish the cords they sent were longer but I put it beside my TV and it worked fine. The HDM1 cord does not come for about a week. It is pretty simple to hook up and works really good; just read the directions!

Purchased as a new product from my local store. Pulled the old unit.. ran all the wires and put everything back.. turned on fine.. DVD drawer refuses to open.. Kind of hard to watch DVD's if it won't open so you can put them in.. Will take it back tomorrow... The last Sony lasted 10 years of heavy use.. Not sure if their quality is bad or if I just got a bad unit.

AND I EXPECT THEM TO RUN MANY MORE YEARS. THE BOTH OF MINE HAVE BEEN WORKHORSES AS I DO A LOT OF RECORDING WORK AND THESE SONYS HAVE BEEN UP TO THE TASK. CLEAN THEM REGULARLY AND THEY ARE GOOD TO GO. I'M NOT A BIG FAN OF SONY THINGS AS THEIR ITEMS ARE PRICEY AND THEY WANT TO CRAM BLUE RAY DOWN OUR THROATS, BUT FOR THE MONEY, THESE ARE TOPS.

Just what I was looking for. A simple play-back system for commercial DVDs on a 42" TV. It has all the basic features. My only criticism is that the unit is VERY slow to respond to commands from the remote control. This is even worse due to the dim "on" light on the front of the device. All in all, well worth the money.

Mystified that almost everyone says they set this up immediately or at worst, after only 30 minutes of fooling with it. Does not work for me after 90 minutes of fooling around. Nothing happens but whirring sounds inside the flimsy thing ( Made like toy you get out of a gumball machine). Not sure what the problem is but I just cannot get it to work and will return it as soon as I can. Regret the purchase. Instructions are woefully inadequate. You shouldn't have to be am engineer to make it work.

If you're looking for a low end DVD player this is the one. I needed one with an HDMI output and this one had the best ratings. No problems at all with it so far. I bought the 2 year warranty just in case, so I'll update this listing if I have an unexpected failure.

The video quality is good. All of a sudden it started to just freeze throughout watching movies. We had to lightly tap it or reboot it to activate the movie again then advance to where we left off, only to have it freeze again. Added another 45 minutes to the movie. Incredibly frustrating. We don't watch that many movies, so it has definitely not been over used. Don't think it is high quality at all. My previous old DVD player lasted 10 years. Maybe they just make them to break.

I have bought this Sony for (2) reasons. Price is the first. Quality and picture is the second. HDMI allows for near HD picture even if you do not have an HD TV. The remote - unlike so many other brands -- is simple to use. Installation takes only minutes and the player is up and running. Because of the low price, I don't worry if it doesn't last a long time, which is one reason that I don't invest in the more expensive brands. Sony is one I can trust. This one has worked well for me, and at under $40.00, I don't know of any other that can give me the picture quality and ease of operation that I want.
