Purpose of Purchase: Bought this generator to power my food truck during service and as a backup power source for my home during outages. Upgrade Justification: I upgraded from an 8kW generator, which required refueling during long events (e.g., 12-hour shifts). Refueling meant pausing service—even with a line of customers—just to add gas. That’s no longer an issue. Performance: This generator ran for a full 12-hour period on a single tank of gas without needing a refill. That’s a huge plus and a game changer for continuous service. 🔑 Key Notes & Considerations: CO2 Sensor Issue: The generator shut off three times while running in an open field. The lights indicated a CO2 sensor error. I solved this by placing a fan near it to keep air circulating—worked like a charm. Unsure why it triggered in open air, but something to watch for. Battery Management: After my first test run, I forgot to turn off the battery switch. Several hours later, I noticed a light still on. Unfortunately, the battery drained completely and now won’t recharge. Major downside: If the battery dies, there’s no manual recoil option to start the generator. After the last power outage, finally decided to go ahead and buy a generator for the house. After doing our research we chose the Westinghouse GEN 9500. The assembly and set up was very easy and everything worked perfectly after the initial setup. . Haven’t had to use it for an emergency yet but I’m ready!

Today 11/20/22 Eversource lines went down, this was the first time other than running generator and testing load on gasoline. I setup the LP tank that was just filled and started up the generator. It ran with a THD of roughly Less than 1% which 8s good. We had about 2,000 watts on continuous power use, however the refrigerator would start and cause a spike in THD from 60.4 Hz to + 60.8 which caused all my UPS systems to switch over. Once stabilized the UPS shut off. However about 2 hours into operation the engine idle down, Even though the low idle switch was off and caused severe power fluctuations. I immediately disconnect our 50 amp breaker but no change in engine speed. I checked the LP line and tank, no icing with about 80% of LP remaining. I then opened the fuel valve and the gasoline picked up engine speed a little bit the gas LP switch was still on LP, I switched to gasoline, no change, I then shut the LP tank off and the generator resumed full power. After the power outage ended 5 hours in I went back on line power, and disconnect the 50 amp generator breaker. With the fuel selector switch selected to gasoline I opened back up the LP tank which immediately choked the engine down. The is a severe problem with the fuel selector and LP service line in the generator. I need this fixed please ASAP as this is a life critical backup device.

Purchased online 3/25/21 but just delivered today, 4/17/21. Pretty easy to set up. The one challenge was getting the generator off the pallet. Fortunately I have a front end loader, so used a chain to lift it high enough to pull the pallet out. Currently this was purchased to keep the lights on when power goes off. We live in an area where there are lots of tall pines and when we get heavy snow/ice multiple trees usually come down and hit the power lines. The most recent outage lasted 4 days, and our old generator could keep some lights on, a fridge and freezer but couldn't run the well pump. Added Oil, and some gas. Some people had complained in other reviews that they had to remove the wheel to pull the battery out. I did not find that to be an issue, if you have a small socket wrench it is pretty easy to remove the clamp bolt behind the wheel and the battery will tip out without too much effort. The generator started right up and a quick test with an electric drill before the rain started was good. Going to do full test connecting to the house later when the rain ends. We have a 50 amp external connection for this generator with a manual transfer switch and a critical loads sub-panel so not using the Westinghouse auto transfer switch. We have a well pump that we need to power and couldn't do that with the auto-transfer switch. I can't say how well this will hold up over time since I've only done a few minutes of run time, but it is well built so I am hoping that it will last at least as long as our old generator has. Positives: Has enough capacity to run the whole house for us. Can use gasoline or LP gas. Right now testing with gasoline, but will likely get a reasonably large LP tank since storing gasoline for an extended time takes a lot of space and will go stale even with stabilizer. So having the LP capability was another selling point. Electric start. Not too hard to roll around with the large wheels, just a little more effort than our previous 5,5KW generator. While it is noisy, I actually think that it is slightly quieter than that old generator which was about 17 years old. Comes with a battery keeper/charger that plugs into the panel which is a nice touch. < 5% THD which is the main reason for going with the Westinghouse instead of a cheaper 12Kw generator. Remote start key fob, although we probably won't use it in our installation. If we add solar to the mix it would be nice if we could leverage the remote start so the solar inverter could start the generator as needed to top off backup batteries, but don't know if that is a possiblity. Negatives: I find the oil dipstick a bit challenging to remove and reinstall, uses a long rubber "plug" piece instead of a screw in dipstick. It was very hard to pull out initially, but got better while checking oil level. It would appear that the Oil drain plug is situated such that it will likely be a bit messy changing the oil so I may add a drain extension similar to ones that can be used with Honda generators. The manual didn't appear to suggest a good spot to tie the pins for the handles to. Would be nice if they had added that bit of detail. While I suppose that it wouldn't be practical for the 22 Hp engine it would have been good to have the option of a backup pull start.

I have owned a dozen generators and dealt with thousands of them in my 33 Army career. This generator has every feature one could ever want and everything is well organized and solidly constructed. It was a breeze to set up and use. I sm ready for whatever the winter brings.

After our loss of power generation due to extended freezing weather in February 2021, I knew I was going to buy a solution. It took a couple of months to evaluate needs and choices, then another month to compare retail prices and availability. I was happy to find this U.S.-engineered Westinghouse packed with features and exactly what I need. An electrician installed a 200 amp, double throw transfer switch and 50 amp receptacle for this generator. This will allow me to switch over to generator power and add load incrementally. It handled my largest power users without a quiver. I am very happy with it.

Just delivered yesterday, minimal assembly, well documented. Started first time, on the first crank (propane, so far). Was happy with my old, smaller generator but it was time to upgrade and I expect this 12000DF will deliver. Electrician hired to wire interlock took one look and was impressed.

I bought this generator over a year ago, and didn't run it until about two weeks ago. I mostly use it to operate a Hobart 250-volt Mig welding machine. I use the propane feature, which supplies sufficient current to operate without hesitation. I really, really like this generator.

This generator is everything you think it is. It is large, and full of power. I purchased this generator primarily due to the fact that it has two 50A outlets. My home has two 150A panels side by side, and in order to make hooking a generator up easily and cost effectively, this was the generator for me. I have a 50A inlet per panel on the outside of my home, feeding a 50A breaker with interlock kit. This generator allows me to run everything in my home to include my 5 ton and 2.5 ton A/C units. The A/C units do have the Micro-Air soft start kits installed on them and I highly recommend them. If you are reading this review, then you know that losing power is inevitable, and the real question is how prepared are you? At literally less than 1/3rd the price of a whole home standby generator, this setup is an absolute no brainer. We have enough horsepower to power our home and manage the inconvenience. If you are on the fence, I can assure you that an investment in a generator is absolute peace of mind. This generator outputs < 5% total harmonic distortion which was a huge feature for me as well. If you are in the market for a large generator, you literally get what you pay for and this WGEN20000 is the cream of the crop. You will not be disappointed.

Bought this summer of 2020 when we experienced more frequent power outages than normal. Working from home, we can't have power interruptions. This was easy to assemble and start up. Love the dual fuel option, though mostly using propane right now. Used initially with extension cords. Good line noise suppression to prevent damage to electronics. Have since bought a cord to plug directly into whole-house generator switch.
