A Beast of a Generator!

Power outages are common where I live, so I bought this generator to power the whole house when needed. This thing does not disappoint as it powers everything in the house (3 ton ac, 55 gal water heater, well pump, clothes dryer...everything) with ease and even has power to spare. The tri-fuel feature is great too, as it gives you options for fuel sources. Starts up quickly and is quieter than some smaller generators. I no longer dread power outages!

WGEN14500/18000, initial review

Only 3 stars at present until Westinghouse responds. And, no recommendation until Westinghouse responds. Assembly instruction are clear, and assembly and initial setup went pretty well, but there are a couple of issues. Once the wheels are on, the battery cannot be removed to connect the cables, so off came the wheel. Also, the dip stick is awkward to use because on a instruction plate above the stick's grip. Still, minor issues. I put in 5 gallons of 87 octane unleaded gas (<10% alcohol). The generator started immediately, with no issues. I let is run for an hour without any load connected. I do have a concern about the engine and generator stability. The engine RPM had a slight instability which sounded like a very, very, slight misfire, but no popping from the exhaust. Voltage and Frequency shown on the set's display was 240 +/- 1V, and 59.6 - 59.9 HZ. I did not connect it to my house, choosing to wait until the following day. Following day: The set powered up immediately, which was nice, but I noticed that the display was now showing an unstable frequency 59.3 - 59.8 HZ (why lower than yesterday?). Voltage was 240/241 V.. Stopped and restarted the set, but no difference. I had intended connecting to the house though the 50A inlet and interlock, but, before doing so, I decided to first look at the voltage waveform with an oscilloscope and meter. I was surprised to see that the intended sine wave looked more like a triangular wave. I don't know if this is the correct output from the Westinghouse generators, so I will look forward to Westinghouse's response. Attached are two video's showing the generators output vs my utility supply. For a valid comparison, the same test setup was used. Couldn't attach the videos because it seems that Westinghouse only accepts YouTube videos, so all I can show is a photo of the WGEN's output waveform.

MUFFLER WELD POINT ISSUES

I have had this unit for less than five (5) months (Purchased in June of this year, and received around 20 June, 2025. It is now November 8 and the blow out of the muffler weld points occurred towards the end of October. Around the 21st or 22nd.). The unit has performed very well using only one 50 AMP outlet. The unit does still struggle when any loads peak at above 40 amps. That said, I hope to have this hooked directly into the service to test the full 125 amp capacity. Now for the bad news... As you can see by the attached images, the muffler weld points (both of them) have blown out. This is a dual muffler system and very loud especially with this issue. The other issue I have found is accessory parts for this unit are very limited. I am purchaseing a zombie box enclosure for this generator and due to the dual exhaust a customization needs to be fabricated to pipe the muffler to the exhaust ports there are no exhaust extenders nor is there a range extender for the remote fob sensor. Finally The battery charger that came with the unit does not charge the battery. Though this is a powerful unit and one that I think really gets the job done, These issues are really making it hard for me to give a better review score.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We’re glad to hear that the generator has been performing well under load, but we’re truly sorry for the issues you’ve experienced with the muffler welds and accessories. That’s not the level of quality we aim to deliver, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Our team would like to review the situation further to help resolve the muffler issue, as well as the battery charger concern, and explore accessory options to support your setup needs. Please reach out to us at support@wpowereq.com or 1-855-944-3571 so we can gather a few details and provide the appropriate parts or warranty support. Thanks, Sydney, Westinghouse

EXCELLENT PRODUCT.

Bought this about 1 month ago for a portable whole house generator. What a machine. It powers two AC systems (5 ton and 3.5 ton), dryer, refrigerator, all lights, all plugs, oven, microwave at the same time and didn't break a sweat!!! Good instructions on assembly, use, maintenance and great labeling of all important parts and switches. Comes with an oil funnel (thank you very much) and spark plug wrench. Works as well as the Generac we previously installed and it comes with us when we move!

Easy to set up and store. Maintenance appears easy

Bought as a backup standby unit for whole house. Tri fuel is definitely a benefit as some gasoline is not always available after a prolonged power outage. Propane is easily stored for quite some time and the ability to switch back and forth is definitely an advantage. Connected the unit to my barn and office easily and performed perfectly. I am in the process of connecting to the guest house via transfer switch which also feeds the barn I referenced earlier. Looks like a great product.

Nice generator.

I purchased this large generator hoping it would be able to power the 3.5 ton AC. Hooked it up to natural gas and the generator was able to power the AC easily. If it can power the AC it will be able to power both the electric water heater and the well pump and anything else we need powered. I am 78 yrs ,150 lbs. and can easily move the generator into position.

Wgen14500tfl

I bought this generator as a home back up generator and have it connected through my electric panel with a 50 amp breaker I have a 3200 ft.² home with an additional garage apartment that is 600 ft.². This generator is able to run my whole house, including three air conditioners. I have a 4 ton, a 2 ton and a 1 ton. The 4 ton and 2 1/2 ton are for the house and I put soft starts on them. The 1 ton is for the garage apartment with no soft start. I have used this generator during power outages, and it will start and run all three AC units as long as they do not start at the same time. I've had no issues with the generator stopping during AC starts. I just hear it changing to a low tone as more load is put on it, but it has never stopped. I would recommend this generator for anyone looking for a home power back up.

Solid Generator

This is a great generator with all kinds of flexibility for different types of fuel. The addition of the AC Connector allows for the full output of the generator without worrying about overloading any given output plug of the generator. The only downside of the unit is the requirement to change the oil every 100 hours of runtime. That seems a bit short.
