The ice maker works awesome. Ice is made faster than expected. Pro Tip: Use distilled water. Makes cleaning a breeze and really clear and flavorless ice. Connecting the maker via the app allows it to turn off and on on a schedule saving electricity when not in use. Also, recommend making ice ahead of time and storing it in the freezer if your planning a party

I really loved this ice maker until this year. I bought this back in 2021 on sale and it ran great. Lots of people warned me, mostly chefs, that if it ever broke down it would need a complete replacement. Well mine wouldn’t make ice anymore. We cleaned it every month, followed the manual and it just stopped working. We then did all the troubleshooting ourselves and still it would make mush and not ice. It’s been sitting on my counter hoping I could find a GE tech but I can’t get someone on the company’s line. I would honestly find a much cheaper version to own because if these small appliances can’t be repaired then at least buy something that’s more affordable to replace. I go out of my way to disuade people from purchasing this appliance. It’s just sad and a waste.

This is a wonderful ice machine. It was easy to set up. The WIFI choice is really nice. The only issue is that the on/off button requires a very slight/ light touch to turn off, so I’ve turned it off unintentionally a couple of times. However, it makes the ice so quickly that it was minimal inconvenience.

My Opal is my favorite purchase of the last few years. We’re on our 2nd. The first one lasted like 5 years but we used it every day and never used distilled water. So the ice was softer but towards the end there was always sediment at the bottom of your glass when you used it. We bought a water distiller to go along with the new machine. And though the ice is a bit harder it’s still great. And if it lasts 5 years that’s Pennie’s a day considering we run it every day. Highly recommend.

The product makes great ice very quickly and the ice bin holds it frozen. The WiFi feature allows for easy status monitoring. The one downside is that the ice maker is a bit noisy throughout all of its cycles. Since we have set this up in the basement, the noise isn't an issue for us. It is not ideal as a kitchen countertop appliance.

I owned a nugget ice maker before this one (not GE brand) and I enjoyed it immensely…until it randomly stopped working. I finally caved after about a year of wanting this one and bought it. I definitely do not regret it at all. It’s got a sleek design that looks fabulous on my counter. The water tank is super easy to remove and refill. The cleaning process is simple, if a little time consuming, and doesn’t require purchasing any extra things to complete. The ice bucket slides in and sits very well. Even my 7 year old son doesn’t have any problems with pulling out the bucket to get ice. I love that both the tank and the ice bucket have a pressure valve to release the water in them. It means the ice bucket doesn’t drip all over the place when it’s pulled out (my last one did!), and adding water to the tank is mess free since you don’t have to worry about water dripping all over the place. As for the ice itself…perfect (Italian finger kiss). I couldn’t ask for better ice. They’re small and crunchy. I fill my 40 oz water bottle when I leave for work and I still have ice when I come home. My ice bucket is never empty because it refills so quickly. I enjoy the scheduled automation function and the fact that when the bucket is full, it won’t start making ice again until the bucket is pulled out and put back into place. It gets a lot of “off” (down but not powered off) time throughout the day because of this function. I feel it will help preserve the machine through its life time.

I did a lot of research and reviews on nugget ice makers and this one was rated #1 that doesn’t always mean it’s the best but it does here. It’s super quiet makes ice very fast and the ice tastes great if you’re on the fence about getting one don’t waste money on the cheaper ones that will tear up in 2 weeks get the best name brand in appliances get a GE you won’t be disappointed. I love my Opal 2.0. I was very nervous because it’s such a big purchase. I researched and read many reviews. I am very pleased with the Opal overall. The cleaning process is a little time consuming but, worth it. The ice is perfect. Yes, it does make voice but it is no worse than other electronic appliance. It has been well worth every penny. I love that I can set a schedule. I ordered on Monday morning and it was delivered Tuesday afternoon. Ordering direct from GE was the best price around. The drip tray is a must, every time you open the compartment for ice, there is water that will drip. My only real complaint is that the water filter is apparently not something that is available yet. I really wish there was a filter. The opal makes plenty of ice, even when we’ve had multiple people making drinks we have never run into. Well worth the investment!!!

No tank came with mine, and I need the tank for my apartment, so I’m waiting for them to send one to me, so I can’t tell you how well it makes ice… I’m just trying to get my prob fixed faster, I’ll do another review if they send the rest of my order.

We've had to replace our ice makers 5 times now in the last 6 years. The first 2 were the 1.0 model, each lasting over one year. Customer service, I'm grateful, usually responds in a timely manner. The third was replaced with the 2.0, which lasted almost a year initially; the last 2 didnt make it 2 days before it started making loud noises. We're trying to hang in there Opal but it's a hassle having to keep returning these. My suggestion, re-engineer the motors, pumps, and so on. They are NOT working as they should from the get go and these are New, not rebuilt replacements. How is it they are getting worse instead of better? Find out where the ball is being dropped and fix it, Please! Good luck!
