The ice maker has been awesome, it makes great ice, it's efficient, the water reservoir holds sufficient water to last plus it has the added benefit that I use spring water to refill and therefore I get pure ice also reducing cleaning cycles. I placed the machine in the laundry are as it can be heard; therefore if you can keep it under a closed door area it will be perfect. It's simple, efficient and effective. I am very pleased.

This ice maker is awesome. We always have more than enough ice. We have a lot of family gatherings and it sure is nice not to run out of ice and send someone out to buy bags of ice. It operates very good and although a little pricey it’s worth spending the money for the convenience of plenty of ice.

It kept getting air bubbles in the line and would say clean but no matter how much you cleaned it it wouldn’t work properly. Also, if you don’t use it all the time it quickly develops mold in the lines which is a pain the butt. I expected it to be like the fridge and use as needed and flawless but it was far from that. Would not recommend

Awesome Ice machine! The pellets are exactly like Sonic/hospital ice. It comes out dry and semi soft. Also, good for sprained ankles and margaritas. The extra water tank is well thought out and really convenient to fill and reload.. The downside is...if it breaks I have no choice but to fix it or buy another, no way I can go back to regular ice.

Once the machine has cycled through the water cycle for the first few minutes the ice starts coming out quickly. Impressed with the amount of ice made in the first few hours. Ice us just like Bob's Big Boy and Sonic ice! We got the machine with the side tank and it is so much easier to fill.

The output of this machine, nugget ice, is great and the whole family loves it…nobody is using our refrigerators ice anymore! The unit is a bit loud when running and the ice does melt consistently within the unit. Would appreciate more robust insulation, for both the noise and the ice itself (even if there is not a viewing window)…

Was excited about a nugget ice machine but was discouraged by some of the reviews of the first version stating the unit was loud. Opal 2.0 we received is much quieter than we expected. A comparable sound to our quiet dishwasher. When the ice machine fills the bin the unit turns off and is silent until you take more ice from the bin. We turn the unit off at night and the next morning we normally have enough ice remaining for iced OJ. Nugget ice is premium!

My Opal 1.0 was on its very last leg after almost two years so I decided to upgrade to the 2.0 I hoped would have less problems. Boy was I wrong, as soon as I threw the massive box away it started screeching so loud my toddlers complain. I’ll have to unplug it if anyone comes over as it’s absolutely embarrassing and loud enough you can barely talk over. GE was absolutely zero help when I opened a case within 30 days of purchase. Starting to wonder if picking up a bag or two a week of nugget ice would be easier at this point. I absolutely love the ice, but this ice maker is a very expensive piece of garbage.

That's the exciting phrase anyone who has come to our home in the past few weeks has heard out of me and my kids. Fantastic machine, makes great pellet ice just as advertised, worked flawlessly right out of the box. I love the app which allows us to schedule the ice making...it's set to turn on in the morning in time to have some ready for our water bottles walking out the door, and then in the afternoon so we have fresh ice when we return home. Since it doesn't have a freezer compartment, the ice just melts down and the water is returned to the reservoir to be used on the next cycle. One tip...you need to make sure the water line from reservoir to the machine lays flat with no kinks, just like the manual says, or it won't work correctly. Other than that, this thing is a breeze to use and the soft ice pellets are fantastic!

Unit will not keep the pump primed so it won't make ice. GE sent instructions on manually priming the pump which worked, but you have to do it every time which is not a good solution. My initial claim was within warranty, but now it's been 13 months and GE will no longer honor the warranty even though it has never worked properly. I'm giving it 3 stars because it does make great ice but the reliability is not good.
