This ice maker makes soft ice which is great for drinks and transfers easily into our water bottles. We make ice daily with it and fill up our water bottles, putting them in the refrigerator to add beverages or water as desired. Our biggest challenge was to get in the habit of turning the ice maker on when we get up in the morning as it does take some time to generate the bin full of ice.

Love the ice this machine makes! It’s perfect for home use! I have had to clean it a few times which hasn’t been too difficult just a little time consuming! My only real complaint would be the noise! It’s pretty loud so I don’t recommend putting it near a room where you gather! Also a location to hang the scoop would be nice to incorporate! Other than that we love it!

This is my 2nd Opal 2 ice maker. The first one went toes up after 2 years. Shipped back to GE and was determined "unrepairable" Lived without ice maker for past few months and really missed it. I like the ice. Bought another one today and it has a bad pump. Will not pull water from tank. Does not create suction due to bad pump. Shame, because when it works I like the product.

The Opal is working fine but the side tank is not. If everything worked, I would give it a 5*. It worked for a few days but then it stopped feeding water into the machine, and it allows the pump to run dry. We just keep having to put water in the machine rather than in the tank.

This is our second one. This time we bought a special water filter because we have hard water up where we live. I also bought the GE Opal filter and installed it and we followed the recommended cleaning schedule. After three weeks, it crapped out after doing all these things.

Overall this thing is awesome. Ice chunks are perfect size, they don’t melt too quickly and totally chewable. It makes ice quickly too. Expensive but I eat ice and was using like crushed ice from my fridge. The filter is a bonus. Ice tastes totally neutral.

The Opal 2.0 is a real investment—a bit expensive, somewhat heavy, and requiring frequent cleaning—but we think it’s completely worth it! GE is telling the truth when they say, “This is the good ice!” The whole family loves the soft, crunchable ice nuggets—as do our guests. We highly recommend the 2.0 model—quieter, easier to use, and seems more reliable.

Downside I’ve had 2. They need to be cleaned often. When you follow the instructions on cleaning and consistency schedule it’s very inconvenient. This is my second unit. The first broke within a year. Bought a new one and now this one too broke in 7months. Not worth the time effort or money. Upside: Ice was good produced ice quickly.

This product is worth every penny! My wife and children love to eat ice and our ice maker in our fridge just couldn’t keep up. I was constantly going to Sonic to get them ice. Now they just walk over to the counter and scoop out as much as they want!! They are completely hooked. The ice never sticks together, never runs low and constantly recycles itself! It really is a great product! Do yourself a favor and BUY one! You won’t regret it!!

I bought this to use while awaiting repairs on the refrigerator ice maker I love this so much I dont care if the refrigerator gets repaired or not. The ice maker keeps up with demand on these hot summer days and I live the nugget ice. Best decision to purchase!
