I have been looking at the Opal for over a year and finally gave in and bought it. Why did I wait so long???!!! It was very easy to set up and made the first nuggets within 20 minutes. It is very quiet and looks great on my countertop. Our friends are ordering one for their house after "experiencing" it this past weekend!

I bought this for my daughter who loves chewy ice! I saved for a couple of years to be able to afford it so I did my research! This was her Christmas present and it has made the entire family so happy! This machine is hard working and keeps the ice coming if it senses it’s getting low. The app capability to mange it is icing on the cake with my daughter she checks on it when she’s at school (LOL) via her phone! Don’t hesitate to purchase it’s an amazing little machine and now we have our own chewy ice no more trips to the gas station to get the bag of chewy ice! We love our opal! My daughter plans to take it with her to college next year!

We’ve had our ice maker 3 months and it already died, started emitting a weird burnt metal / plastic smell, I think essentially the intake fan failed or the motor burned out. The ice making works fine and no issues with sound (I think it’s pretty quiet) . This machine makes the best ice but I’m bummed that the machine gave out so quickly especially when I babied it, cleaned it on schedule and followed all instructions incl using only distilled water. A lot of hassle and expense for something just to die on me.

I love this ice maker. The opal nuggets are so enjoyable in cocktails and keep my ice water cold and refreshing. I love the programmable function this ice maker has so I can have ice ready to go when I wake up. This machine will come in handy for pool season!

I’ve been wanting this ice machine for a long time! My boyfriend gave it to me for Christmas. Best gift ever! It works perfectly and now I get the “good” ice anytime I want! Tip: Read the instructions before setting it up. It will save you tons of time! Lol!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the first time owning a counter top ice maker unit. This GE Profile ice maker seems to be a really great ice maker!! Once you get it out of the box , you have all you need to set it up which also includes the instruction manual. A drip tray and scoop are also included. Follow the instruction to clean it before using it. This is self cleaning. Put it in self clean mode and it will go through the whole system with water to make sure all is cleaned properly. When it finishes the cleaning cycle, Unplug the unit, detach the hose and let drain in the sink. Its just that easy. Simple to operate yet very modern looking. It has some heft to it. No sliding around on the counter. Very stable. No raised buttons to work with. Light pressure touches gets it going. This unit comes is almost 17 inches in height so be sure you have the height room before making the purchase. Once set up, it starts to make ice pellets within 7-10 minutes which is remarkably fast! After the first drop of ice pellets, it continues do so every few seconds with another drop of pellets. I equate the size of the ice to the size of a gum drop. You can chew the ice easily. This would be amazing to use for a party when serving drinks without having to worry about running out of ice as it is continuously making ice with a side tank to help with volume if needed and great to have for everyday usage as well. This has a home on my counter top just like my tea kettle and coffee maker and is being used daily to keep our drinks cold in these hot Summer months!! BTW, this is also a "smart" appliance and allows for app connectivity . This feature is not something that I would personally use BUT it's available for those who like to operate and control appliances via smart phones.

This version and app better then the 1st Opal hunk o junk. We found when powering the unit on there was some thin blue plastic bag type material floating on the inside causing noise. I was able to pull out the plastic with some tweezers from the side. You buy American you get these kinds of quality issues. It does make ice and runs better than v1 opal. Not sure I'd recommend it

Best Ice Ever! Love the ice! Looks great on the counter. Very contemporary. Only issue is the "Squeeling" the machine makes when it's defrosting. At times it is so loud we unplug it to make it stop. When it is plugged back in and resumes making ice it's fine. Overall a great machine!

I bought this for the wife for Christmas because she craved it when she was pregnant with our children. Sixteen year down the road, they now make them for the counter top! There has not been a day where we have not used the icemaker. Yes, it does hum, but that is to be expected from a refrigeration device, but not annoyingly. The descaling process is not difficult, but it is tedious. Despite that, I am still giving this 5 stars.
