I am an ice snob. I love ice, in all drinks and a lot of it. When I read of the opal on Kickstarter I passed due to its cons. On this Gen 2 I did not hesitate. Makes perfect nugget ice, fast, clean and yummy. Ice water, with bourbon, coke, you name it. Family is digging into that bid at all hours. Great purchase, well made, seems to be of excellent quality.

Easy to set up. Easy to clean. I love the function of being connected to your phones to receive notifications when needed cleaning. Probably the best function from this product. Highly recommend to those who need an ice machine for their apartments. Small enough to fit on the counter without being bulky or taking up too much space.

Upon set up , and after cleaning per instructions, the machine went through the “making ice” mode and then to defrost without making any ice at all. Customer service is of little help and definitely not customer friendly. I had expected so much more. instructions state ice to be made with in 25-30 minutes. 6 hours and counting zero ice. But the defrost cycle works well .

Make sure to read the instructions while setting up and realize it takes time to set up and clean. It’s truly worth your time. After that, the ice is perfect! The side tank will let you go a long time before needing to refill and it’s very convenient. My family and friends love this ice, lol. As the instructions say, there are many different noises during ice making but no need to worry about them. As a side note, I’m using the filter sold by Opal and using only filtered water from my refrigerator to make ice. So far, very happy!

After our ice maker began to freeze up constantly we began to look for a separate on counter ice maker. The GE Profile met all of our check marks and makes the best ice. It was easy to set up and begin running. For anyone who loves good ice, this is the product for you. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

I have had several countertop ice makers in the past and decided to finally invest in a nugget ice maker. The set up took a little longer than expected, but it was well worth it! Makes ice quickly and holds a great amount. The side tank is great, not requiring constant filling and it is easy to see when water is needed. There is also an indicator for when it needs to be cleaned. So glad I invested in a good ice maker!

My brother bought one last year and it is great. Works well. I bought one on his recommendation and it is the “new and improved “ model. But, it is not as good. I had to return the first 2. This is my third try. The main problem is the defrosting. It defrosts when it does not need to do so. I turned it off last night. Sat for 10 hours. I turned it on this morning and it started making ice. After it’s first dump, it started defrosting. It has been on 4 hours now and the bin is not half full and it has defrosted at least twice. Do not buy. I am going to give this unit a few more days then return. The ice is great! Taste great and is soft and easy to chew. I love the ice - hate the units inability to function. GE should “recall” them and fix the defrosting problem. Also, on defrost, the unit sometimes squeaks really loud. Like a baby crying. That loud!!

I love my new opal 2.0. I had the previous version which did stop working about a year and a half after I got it, but luckily I had the full replacement insurance which covered most of the cost of the opal 2.0. I would say it is always worth it to get the extra insurance on these as no matter how well you treat them, they are only made to last about a year of continuous use. Using only distilled water will extend the life as long as possible but in the end they all stop working in my experience, though the opal did last the longest of any model I ever had. I have had Oster, Newaire, Mueller, and Solon, plus a few names I never heard of from china and the opal worked longer than all of them. It also has a great design and a gallon side tank so requires less refilling than most other countertop machines.

We previously had a Kitchenaid Ice Maker that was incredibly inferior. The GE profile Opal Ice Maker is far superior, external tank easy to use, and the water filter is exceptional. The ice is perfect and supplements the fridge ice maker. I would recommend to anyone

This is absolutely the best ice nugget machine out there. I have used several different ones in the past but this is the Cadillac of them all. Must say don’t use the generic water filters. They will not work. Use only the G E ones. The others didn’t let the water flow correctly. Kept telling me to add water.
