Poor quality check

The icemaker works well it does exactly what it supposed to do. I would have been happy except when I took the icemaker out of the box there was a scratch and dent on one side of it and another dent on the other side. Quality team should have caught these before they was ever packed up. These appliances cost too much to come as a scratch and dent model.

SO loud!

I love the ice, but this machine is horribly loud. When it is defrosting, I cannot hear the television that is on in the same room. If I am upstairs sleeping it will wake me up. I will be reaching out to GE to see if this is how this item should be or is this one a lemon.

No Ice :<(

So DISAPPOINTED . I recieved the opal 2 for Christmas ... I am very familiar with This brand and this style ice Maker.Because the friend that gave it to me has one and I go straight to the icemaker to get a cup of ice and water every time I go to their house. Unfortunately, the day I set mine up.I began having problems. I called for troubleshooting help. And I thought my problems were over but they weren't. My reservoir is full but the machine says add water. And it won't make ice the lady at g.E recommended that I do something to remove an air bubble which I followed her stepsaid.I thought that was the solution . Last week, I did the same thing again.I've only had the machine less than a month. And i'm so disappointed because my friend's machine works perfectly and mine sucks

Love it!

I love nugget ice but it's hard to find…and almost impossible to find a machine for home. The Opal 2.0 is absolutely wonderful! It is expensive…but it's definitely worth it you're a nugget-ice lover like myself. Some people say it is too loud but in my experience, it is only slightly louder than my refrigerator and I don't even notice it anymore. With GE's smart HQ app, we've set it up to only run during the daytime. The only thing I've found that I don't like is getting the ice out. When you pull the ice bin out to get the ice, quite a bit of water drips out so using the drip tray is essential. I also got the side-tank accessory and highly recommend it. Without it, you have to fill up the water reservoir which is under the ice bin. All-in-all, it is exactly what I was looking for and I'm very happy with my purchase.

So Much Ice!

I bought this ice maker for my dad for Father's Day because the built in ice maker in his refrigerator couldn't keep up. He LOVES it! I've never seen the guy drink so much water. The best part is that my kids can use it too. The setup was easy and it is low maintenance. The only downside is that it isn't insulated at all so you have to run it all the time. The ice is slowly melting m, draining through the bottom of the tray into the water reservoir, and remaking fresh. So you can't make a batch and then turn the ice making feature off or all the ice will melt and you have to start over.

Nearly Perfect Ice Maker

Just because the machine isn't perfect, doesn't mean it doesn't make perfect ice. It is 5 stars in my book, and it is the best on the market. Although I may be nitpicking, there are a few improvements that keep it from achieving perfection. CONS: 1. It is a high maintenance machine. The manual suggests that you clean it once per week. Nobody really has time for that. It is more of a tedious process than strenuous one, since the machine has a (somewhat) automatic clean cycle. However, this requires a great deal of clean water to rinse and seems wasteful. 2. The machine is a bit bulky, and for the most part, lacks feet on the bottom. The feet exist, it just would have made cord management easier if they were a bit taller. 3. It can be a bit noisy when making ice, but quiets down once it gets going. It doesn't bother me, all refrigeration products are going to make noise. 4. I personally don't care about this one but...don't buy this if you are concerned about wifi/app capabilities. I have yet to get the machine to pair with my phone using the app and wifi, so I'm not sure it even works. I'm not too sure why it is even necessary, but I don't have any use for it. But it is still a con if it is supposed to work, and yet, it doesn't. PROS: 1. Perfect nugget ice. I was hesitant about buying this (expensive) machine due to the fact I wasn't too sure it could make as good of nugget ice as restaurants/hospitals. It 100% does. The promo videos make it look soft and barely frozen. This machine makes hard and crunchy goodness that keeps frozen in the bin all day long. 2. Makes ice consistently and fast. You will have ice constantly as long as you keep the water tank replenished. 3. The front-viewing bin lets you see how much ice is accumulated and simply makes it look nice on the counter top. It pulls out nicely for easy access. Even though it is pricier than most ice makers this size, this machine is worth it if you want perfect nugget ice from a well crafted machine. It does what it is supposed to and has lived up to the hype thus far. Nugget ice makes everything better; water, cocktails, or even plain old ice munching.

So happy with this choice!

After much research, I chose the GE nugget ice maker and I am extremely happy. Other reviews mentioned it being noisy, but our unit is very quiet...similar to the noise our refrigerator makes. Once the set up was complete, ice was made very quickly and it was exactly as advertised. The unit is larger than expected and does not fit under our upper cabinets.

Amazing Machine!

Was skeptical about spending the money for this machine but after getting it here and using it, I am so glad I pulled the trigger. Wife LOVES nugget ice and I was tired of having to drive 20 mins to get a bag constantly from local gas station. Now in minutes she has some right here on our counter.

Fast and consistent!

Skeptical at first, quickly changed our minds as we were enjoying “sonic” type ice within an hour of plugging it in. The only downside is that the scoop is a bit difficult to use and almost always end up with a few pieces of ice on the counter. I would suggest a fold down front on the ice bin to make it easier and cleaner to get the ice with the scoop.

Great ice!! Wifi wonderful upgrade.

The product makes great ice and GE has improved the product since the original. The "sonic" or nugget ice is perfect. The upgrade to WIFI is a great improvement from the original. The product can be scheduled and controlled through an app from anywhere in the world. GE includes the external water fill unit with the product. This allows you to remove the water container and fill the container from the sink without filling a pitcher and carrying water to the ice maker. Since this unit was just upgraded in July 2020, almost all the reviews are from the original Opal. The Opal 2.0 solves almost all the problems with the original unit. The auger system does produce a steady low level machine noise when making ice. Once the ice bin is full, the unit is dead quiet. The ice maker makes about one pound of ice per hour and holds about three pounds of ice. This would be suitable for small gatherings.
