This is probably the best invest for inside my home that we have made. I'm an ice eater and crushed is what I need. We constantly run out but not anymore. You would think that it would take forever for this little machine to make ice it absolutely does NOT. Within an hour maybe 2 I go from an empty container to full. The tank is a must and it lasts a while. I might refill it every other day or so. I've never been a fan of GE products but this might sway me over to more GE products. Even bigger benefit is the app. I don't have to be home to turn it on.

This is the loudest, squeakiest ice maker I have ever owned. The sound is akin to basketball shoes on a newly waxed floor. You know it is making ice, so if you do not have the app, no worries, you can hear it from any room in the house. I guess some ice makers are quiet and some are very loud. Very disappointing for the price. The ice is wonderful though.

This ice machine is perfect! It makes the most wonderful munchable ice ever and just encourages me to drink more water all day. On top of keeping up with our ice loving family, it is beautiful! The light, especially at night is just beautiful! Who knew an ice machine can actually improve our counter top!

We love it when it is working and not screaming like a banshee. We had it for about 4 months before it started making noise and we would have to unplug it to get it to stop. It now happens 2 times or more a day. Working with the warranty company now. I will update with the results if possible. The side tank is a must, I can't imagine filling without it.

I really love my ice machine. This is my fourth one. I clean it faithfully and make sure to use distilled water. Unfortunately, they don't last long. I just got my 4th one and I got it because my other one died in less than a yr and it was under warranty. The other one before that one lasted about four yrs. You have to clean it religiously. If you're lazy then forget it. This is not for you. It's just like any equipment. You have to take care of it.

I would love to be compensated for my first machine. Didn't even last two years and the motor quit. Always cleaned it. Always changed the filter. I bought another one because of how well it kept ice and how well it made ice. I bought the warranty this time. I just wish GE would make it right. A 700 dollar machine shouldn't quit in less than two years. Randy R. Arkansas

For months my wife and I had shopped for a countertop ice maker. Our freezer produces an ample amount, but they're the regular hard ice cubes. We wanted one that made what we like to call the “good ice!” You know when you go to a store and get a soda and the ice dispenser shoots out the pellet ice, you already know it's going to be a fantastic soda. After looking up, “the good ice” we found the he Opal ice machine. We've been thrilled ever since. We now have a very nice ice/coffee bar. We LOVE it!!!

This is a great product but is known for a loud sleeping noise. Had to exchange my first one for that reason. Pros: large water tank don't have to refill all the time. Light is adjustable/ turns off Large basket of ice Makes ice quickly Has its own water filter Comes with scoop Aesthetically pleasing/looks good on the counter Cons A little noisy Issues contacting customer support Not “sonic” ice but similar It's large (understandable for what is does but if you don't have the countertop space it may be an issue) No scoop holder or location to store it. Ice build up (ice will melt closest to the front and get stuck just outside the shoot) so you have to break it up or stir it to keep it full. It is EXPENSIVE.

Produces ice, but runs almost 24hrs a day and sounds just a bit quieter than an ice cream maker. Our kitchen is never quiet anymore. Ice is inconsistently melted/refrozen in chunks or expected pellet ice. And 3 days after I plugged it in, the app is told me it needs to be descaled. Family likes the pellet ice, but I expected a lot more given the price.

I'm happy with the ice production, and overall performance. The sound from the ice maker is there, but that's as expected. I don't have any loud or odd noises, just sounds a bit like a mini fridge. The ice is good, and I use distilled water to avoid any calcium build up since I'm on a well. The way it recycles water from the melting ice is cool. I wasn't sure how it all worked until I got it here, but it's pretty simple and you always have fresh ice. For the areas that left a little to be desired, ice texture… it's good and breaks apart when eaten but is no where as soft as sonic ice, not even close. It's better than the solid ice from my freezer, but I had higher expectations. The pull out drawer drips a ton of water, due to condensation on the inside of the double wall front side. There could be a simple integrated drip tray on the bottom the the drawer that sloped water to the tank, rather than dripping all over the counter and the little tray they want you to put in front. I'm surprised this is an issue, as a little design thinking could solve this easily. I don't understand the need for WiFi connectivity, or the app integration, it's just makes ice when the hopper is low… The rest of the device is nice. Fit and finish are very nice. Like I said, overall it's solid and works well, just a few things that could be improved.
