Hi there - We think the little ice cubes this machine makes are amazing, too! So sorry that your machine makes a loud noise while making the ice, though. This would be pretty disappointing. Your new icemaker may make sounds you're not familiar with and most of these noises are normal. Hard surfaces like floors, walls, and countertops can amplify these sounds. If black residue is seen inside the Opal Ice Maker (including hoses and tanks), it can be caused by mineral build-up in the machine. Even with filtered water, minerals come through that will build up over time.
