This was a gift from my family. They spent a lot of money on this product and not worth it. It is great when it worked the one time. I had issues with it not making ice from the beginning. We cleaned it multiple times thinking there was something in the filter but it did not help. It would work for a short time and then not make ice at all. It only made a full container of ice once in the past year. Very disappointing for the cost of the product.

I bought our Opal Nugget Ice Machine 5 years ago when it was a new product and sold only by Opal/First Build. We LOVE the ice our machine makes and we like the machine a lot. We use it ALL THE TIME. We learned that It is very important to descale the machine regularly using an ice machine descaler. Ours started squealing which was because there was mineral deposit in the machine. If descaled and cleaned regularly (every 1 to 6 months depending on the mineral content of your water) it works fine. It is very easy to do. Since ours is one of the first (not the 2.0) it does not have a side water tank. I wish it could be attached to a water source so I wouldn't have to refill it all the time (at least once daily). If they made one that did I'd buy it!

This unit was quite in operation, works as promised, the manual needs updating to explain how to clean interior storage tank that feeds water into freezing auger. I have run this unit for 2 years constantly. You tube cleaning videos were very helpful.

Makes the best ice & super easy to clean. The only thing is that I wish it didn’t automatically make ice everytime you get ice from it. It’d be good to make on demand or request vs just triggering to make every time you take a scoop. Still - my favorite “appliance”. Use it literally every day & I’m probably more hydrated because of it.

I have wanted to purchase a pellet ice machine every since I saw one at a home that I was selling. She loved her ice machine & I had ice envy! So fast fwd a few years. I bought myself one since my husband couldn’t get my slap in the face hints. At least a pricey ice machine didn’t bother him either. Nobody else in my house likes the ice because they think it waters down the drink quickly. But I love this machine & it’s been a year since purchasing it. I even took it on vacation!

Our unit is for a weekend lake home. So on for 2-3 days then sits idle for a week or two. Draining unit isn’t easy. At each start up I run through the bleach water mix and rinse. Don’t want any bacteria issues. We'll see how it goes for the summer. Only in use for a month. Ice production is good so far. No noise issues that I’ve read in other reviews, but ours is in a laundry room away from living area.

This is my absolute favorite ice! The machine is easy to use and makes ice pretty quickly. Adding the filter made a big difference for us, and I absolutely recommend it. The only drawback so far is the noise, it gets pretty loud, but I think the ice is worth it.

We had the original Opal for about a month before it completely died on us. We were lucky to get a refund and then decided to buy the Opal 2 in hopes that is was a better built machine. Unfortunately it has started making some awful noises within a week of purchasing. I’m worried it won’t be lasting long either.

Several friends have the Opal Nugget Ice Maker & I could not get enough. I wanted one for my RV but it needed to be free of a water line for travel. Opal fit the bill. I removed my old RV fridge, bought a dorm fridge & built a shelf to hold the Opal. When she arrived she fit like a glove. Incredibly happy with this purchase!

This machine is amazing! If you like soft pellet ice, this is the machine for you. It has a reservoir tank, so you don't always have to fill it with water. It makes plenty of ice for two huge cups and recovers quickly. It is perfect for couples or a family of three. I bought a cheaper machine than this one online, and it just didn't give us enough ice, so we purchased this gem. It has a one-year manufacturer warranty. Most countertop machines have a 90-day warranty. If you want this type of ice maker, spend the extra money. Great appliance, and I work on appliances for a living. Well worth the investment!
