We have only had the product installed for less than a week but first impressions are good. The ice nuggets are superb and quick to cool the beverage. I am a bit concerned about the need to sanitize and descale the ice maker on a frequent schedule. We wiil sanitize once a week descale every two weeks. The ice maker has to be shutdown for more than 18 hours during the descaling process. Otherwise, we are very pleased with the ice maker.

I have wanted a nugget ice maker for as long as I can remember. I was going to get one years ago but it was a commercial one and I couldn't justify the purchase or price. I drink a lot of water and other fluids and I never run out of ice. Make sure you fill the tank regularly and not allow the water to run out. Its not quiet but no louder than the dishwasher, nor is it small, its bigger than my Bunn and I have it on my island. I dig it, so thats all that matters. If your on the fence, get one, its worth every penny and you wont regret it. Slushies at home are way better than Sonics nasty and a lot better than being in the hospital. My kids are grown but now they all want one too. The nuggets are not only chewy but contagious. Merry Christmas to me! Ho Ho Ho

I was skeptical about clumping and lack of refrigeration but the ice last a long time and as it melts it recycles and makes more. The clumping isn’t an issue either because the nuggets break apart with barely a touch. The texture of the ice is perfect and easy to chew and is just like Sonic ice. Hoping GE add this ice to their refrigerator line because I would buy that in a minute.

Well I’ll start off my saying my wife and 6 year old are obsessed with chewing ice. My kitchen floor is constantly wet due to the fact my GE fridge spits out the ice at million miles per hour so it’s hard not catching all of it. With this I knew we’d fix that problem and also the fear of my kid busting a tooth on harder ice. There is a couple other options when it comes to nugget ice but it’s still limited. This obviously is probably the most expensive one but between all my Kitchen appliances being GE cafe, I wanted to keep it universal. Plus the fact this one is shorter then other ones so it fits under the standard cabinet height. As far as function, it does what it’s meant to do. Add water and make ice. There is a reservoir inside that you fill with water and also the external one. It’s highly recommended filling both options however pro tip, fill the external tank prior to the internal tank. If you do the internal first, it fills up the external base for the external tank And when you side the tank in, water shoots out everywhere. Ice quality I feel is good, it’s soft and crunchy at the same time and absorbs the liquids nicely when used in drinks. Nuggets do not stick together so I feels that’s also a good plus. My only two issues are A)The noise, it can be loud and louder than I was hoping it would be. For some reason it’s has a good vibration noise if I don’t have the external tank installed down the side. My kitchen is separated from the house as far as not being a open floor plan so thank goodness for that, I still can hear it from the next room over. It is louder than my GE dishwasher to give you a idea. B) Water.... it does use a lot of water, both tanks of water will be used in a couple days with minor use. It’s an expected problem but I don’t know if it melts quicker than expected but then again it reuses the melted ice. If you’re able to attached an actual water line, go that route!

Love the Opal 2.0 Ice Machine, but the software used to monitor and control scheduling really, seriously, takes away from the overall experience. I had to take my first Opal 2.0 back as it had a bad ice level sensor right out of the box. No problem with that. My problem is, I installed the Opal in Smart HQ! After getting the second Opal 2.0 home I also installed it in Smart HQ! Big problem, you ca not remove an appliance from Smart HQ so now I have two Opals showing up and I'm getting emails stating the one I don't have any more is off line. The application Smart HQ is anything but smart. I can be in a sub-menu and just hit Home and it wants to communicate with the Ice Machine...well that take 10 to 15 seconds and it does that every time you want to go somewhere in the app. WHY?

My husband received this as a birthday gift from his parents and we are absolutely obsessed with it. We love pellet ice and having it easily accessible at home has been a game changer. The set up was also very easy and the descaling process has also been easy as well. We recommend this thing to everyone who comes to our home.

I am SO jealous of all the great reviews for this product. We have been working with GE Customer Support for nearly 3 months now on either repairing or replacing our Opal icemaker. We purchased this in May and by August, it had stopped making ice. GE sent us another one (took nearly two months to arrive). This one (apparently a refurbished unit) didn't work either! We loved the wonderful Sonic-like ice during the FOUR MONTHS it actually worked.

This was a Christmas gift to my husband but everybody who comes over prefers the nugget ice to the larger cubes out of the freezer. It fits perfectly under the upper cabinets without hitting anything. The side reservoir is easily accessible for refilling. The only downside to it is the noise. It is louder than our full size side by side refrigerator with a built in ice maker. Other than the noise, it has been great.

We purchased one at work and I get ice everyday. I absolutely love pebble ice. I live where we have Sonic restaurants on every corner. There isn’t any other place comparable when it comes to ice. This brings Sonic ice right inside my kitchen. This is a great purchase for pebble ice fans!!

For all the Nugget Ice obsessed individuals such as myself, this is it all the way. Easy set up and easily connected through SmartHQ App. The perfect cloudy, soft, non-crunchy Nugget Ice. I am beyond satisfied with this product. For someone who hydrates only through chewing ice, you got a fan for life with this one.
