So far all is going well and we love the ice that this machine makes. We have had to clean it twice at the machines request, which was like cleaning a coffee maker... not much of an issue. We hope that this ice machine keeps on working... now that we have it... can't live without it. Fresh, nicely sized, and "chewable ice" for cocktails is quite enjoyable.

The first one I purchased did not work and only stayed in the cleaning cycle. Went back and exchanged for a new one and worked right away. Extremely easy to operate and makes ice quickly. One of the higher prices options out there but looks sleek and looks nice and sleek on the counter.

It's quick and makes great ice. Everybody loves it. The only reason I dropped a star is because it makes a humming noise while operating. It's not overly loud but it is noticeable. Also, it does drip a little when you pull the ice bin out so I don't recommend putting it on something that could be damaged by water. Finally, it is pricier than other products that make the same type of ice...I wanted the ability to turn it on remotely though which is why I spent the extra.

Our son and his family gave us this icemaker for Christmas. He knows how much I like crushed ice. He had been looking at it and decided this is what he wanted to give us. WOW!!! What a nice give. It makes the ice very quickly. I know we are going to enjoy for days to come.

for 20 years I had an extremely expensive nugget ice machine; long before they were installed in homes. That machine was constantly in need of service and it was excellent and very expensive to maintain. Not only was that a source of irritation but the noise level was unbelievable. It was like having a commercial kitchen so noisy. This machine put out better ice and is so quiet you can barely hear any noise.

The Opal 2.0 makes wonderful ice quickly and efficiently, but is prone to mechanical failure which cannot be avoided by simply frequent cleaning as instructed by the manual. Rather, users need to be told it must use only distilled water or the equivalent. Typical home drinking water filters won’t prevent scale build up that will render the machine inoperable notwithstanding regular cleanings in less than a year. Once the scale has accumulated the only remedy is to disassemble the unit and clean all internal parts that handle water with vinegar by direct application.

This product is absolute garbage. I would give it 0 stars if I could. I have had it less than 2 years and it makes a horrible grinding noise that sounds like it’s about to blow up. I have to unplug it . Once I plug it back in the machine works fine for a few hours and then the grinding noise comes back. I love the ice but hate the machine.

Loved this ice maker for two days, then it started making a loud squeaking noise. Went to the owners manual troubleshooting .... it says "may start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defost cycle is automatic, and may take 30-45 minutes.During this time, the front button won’t respond. More frequent squeaking usually requires white vinegar cleaning to remove internal mineral scale buildup". Turned off machine overnight ran cleaning cycle with white vinegar (note - machine did not make "squeaking" sound during cleaning cycle.) with cleaning cycle completed drained the white vinegar solution and ran another cleaning cycle with clean water. Once the ice maker started making ice the Squeaking started up again.

I purchased an Opal original approximately 2 years ago. Worked great, then one day stopped producing ice. Disappointing to say the least, but I crunch this ice every day so I immediately purchased a replacement (plus an extended warranty so I don't find myself in this situation again. On to the 2.0. It looks better than the original. Less fingerprints and the pull out handle on the ice bin is nice. I never used the extra water bin on my first so I started out using it on this one. I couldn't get it to work. Connected the tube and filled with water, the water would only slightly move to the machine and then I'd get the message to add water. No big deal, I'm used to filling up the main container. Took the extra tank off. The app is great -- tells you when the bin is full, needs more water, or is defrosting or the very best status - Making Ice. This brings me to the defrosting issue. My first Opal would go into defrost mode maybe once or twice a week. The 2.0 defrost a lot. A lot. Like 50% of the time at first. This was enough to make me consider returning because it was literally making 1/3 bin of ice then defrosting, making it hours before a bin would be full (I package the ice so I can take it to work with me and crunch throughout the day - yes, this is an addiction) so this output would not be enough. I kept trying and it seems as though after 2 weeks or so, the machine has started producing an output similar to my OG Opal in its heyday. It seems that this product still has strides to make to improve, but if you did a deep dive into reviews like I did, you'll notice that there is no perfect version of this scale pebble ice maker. For now, it will have to do. The machine makes the ice that at this point, I have to have - but to improve would be to increase the life of the product, hopefully bring the price down a bit, and make sure that the Opal can stay in ice making mode as much as possible. It's pricey, but the ice is great -- my recommendation would be to make sure to spring for the extended warranty.

I am an ice snob. I love ice, in all drinks and a lot of it. When I read of the opal on Kickstarter I passed due to its cons. On this Gen 2 I did not hesitate. Makes perfect nugget ice, fast, clean and yummy. Ice water, with bourbon, coke, you name it. Family is digging into that bid at all hours. Great purchase, well made, seems to be of excellent quality.
