Purchased the new model as a replacement for one of the original opals that we have had for several years. So far we like this model even better than the first. The side holding tank makes refills easier and less frequent. It reduces the need to remove the bin to add water, which helps keep mess to a minimum. Haven't had to clean it yet, but it looks like it is more serviceable than the original. We love the nugget ice and this works great for our family. The initial run cleaning seemed to go faster than the old unit since water drains more quickly. Also, the built in filter has finer mesh which should prevent small the general dust that sometimes makes it way into the bin from cleaning or use. If you don't own one you should get one. We do recommend using distilled water since our well water left deposits in the old model. I'd also recommend cleaning frequently - that was something we didn't do as much as we should have on the original unit we owned. Overall, well worth it!

This is our 2nd GE ice maker. Our first one gave out after about 1 year and a half. It made noise and then there was a leak, and then it stopped making ice all together. We have had this one for about 6 months and it makes squealing noises when it is defrosting. Which is kind of annoying but the ice is delicious so we deal with the weird noise.

I’m a self-described pebble ice aficionado, and the ice produced by this machine is just as good as Sonic or Chick-Fil-A’s. I’m so happy to finally have the good ice anytime I want it. The machine is quiet and well-designed, and even though the ice bin isn’t refrigerated, the ice stays good in it for several hours without melting or clumping too much. This was a bit of an indulgent investment for me, but I’m so happy with it. I held off buying one of these because reviews for the first version were iffy, but the 2.0 has been great so far. As long as it lasts a long time without breaking down, I would rate it 10 stars if I could.

We have it at our lake house. I love the WiFi feature. I can turn it on a few hours before we arrive and will have a full bin of ice waiting for us. We have 12 adults and 7 kids. It keeps up with us for the most part. Even when we do deplete most of the ice, it refills pretty quickly.

My mom loves the ice it makes. Easy to use. Like the cleaning reminders. Was great having it set up to the wifi. Was able to start making ice before we got home. It was ready for use to have right after we walked in the door. Only thing is the side was dented bad in Shipping. So now the machine rattles a lot noise.

This is my third GE ice maker. And now I’m kicking myself for giving them another chance. Every single one of these stops working within two years. This most recent $600 opal 2.0 lasted me exactly 1 year and 2 weeks before I came home to it making a horrible grinding noise and no ice in the bin. Two weeks out of warranty. Of course. Never again. What a waste of money.

The dentist says I shouldn't chew ice. Probably true, but we compromised and this ice maker is da bomb. Great for drinks and other ice related needs too. Easy to use and quiet. Highly recommended if you love ice just like fast food restaurants used to use, but don't go to fast food restaurants because they are also not good for you and pretty gross. I'm eating ice right now!

By far the best nugget ice maker out there. My first one lasted just over a year. The second one only lasted 10 months. Hoping for longer appliance life on this one. I have tried other nugget ice makers. ice wasnt as soft as this one and they were much louder.

Absolutely love the ice but the machine makes some very loud noises. I previously owned another ice maker at a much lower price point that failed after 1 year so I upgraded to this machine but for the price I’m surprised at how loud it is. Especially because I bought the 2.0.

This is a great product and makes ice pretty quickly, Have been using the product for about 8 months and only issue is the light stopped working during my last cleaning cycle - working with Warranty department currently to resolve. We use the machine daily and go through a lot of ice in this household - would definitely recommend
