I love the options my ice maker 2.0 has and the chewable ice. I've had my icemaker going on 4 months now. 2-weeks ago I started having problems after cleaning/descaling it. The resevoir is full yet it keeps saying add ice. I read every GE article and the manual, tried all the suggestions and it still says "Add Water". I'm very frustrated. Will call support number.

I purchased this ice maker because I obviously love to be able to chew on my ice. I had purchased a different ice machine a few years ago & honestly never used it because it didn't make this kind of chewable ice even in the “small” sized setting. I am definitely extremely happy with my Opal and it is used everyday by my entire family.

We had the firstbuild edition of the ice maker, and loved it! Sadly, we didn't take great care of it and it died. Obviously, we couldn't live without our nugget ice, so after a little research (pretty much just between the models), we got this one coming! It arrived quickly, produced ice almost immediately, and has been amazing. It's super quiet compared to the last one, and so many features we disliked have been addressed. Much more user friendly and definitely worth getting. We haven't gotten the app to work, but that didn't matter at all to us, so it's not a negative on our part. Would definitely recommend! Just make sure to take care if it.

This 2.0 version is so much better! As an owner of both models, this one is much sleeker, more modern, and quieter than the first version. Additionally, the fan setup and cooling is more efficient which allows it to make ice faster. The Alexa integration and the mobile app allow much better timer and smart home functionality. Overall, very pleased with the improvements made over version 1.0. Despite the price still being a bit steep, I'd definitely recommend!

Great size of ice. Rapidly makes ice and a nice feature is it stops automatically when the ice bin is full. Sound when functioning is noticeable but not a deterrent from use. Easy access to refilling the water reservoir. The WiFi controls work very well and automatically shuts down ice making at night and can restart at any desired time.

I have two Opal ice makers (had one for home and one for my office which I brought home). I've used only distilled water, cleaned regularly with Opal cleaning kit, and have them set up properly. One unit has stopped working (suspect the ice bin switch) and I cannot get any parts or service help. The second unit is making a loud noise and I suspect it's dying. My suggestion is to pay the extra money and get a professional unit like a Scotsman or Hoshizaki - these are “cute” toys but not real ice makers. Add to that GE bought Opal and as they say when that happens “GE, where great companies go to die”.

The packing was secure and protected the ice-maker from any damage in shipping. Simply instructions on how to setup, with bonus WIFI connection. Dual light settings. Noise is not an issue. My wife loves the Sonic ice. I do not recommend many products, but this is well worth the price. Buy the separate water tank. Fits on either side. Wish there was an extended warranty for purchase.

We originally participated in the kickstarter for Opal. We loved our original Opal. It did have some issues and finally died 2 years ago. We said we would not buy another one because of the price. For 2 long years, we had bagged ice from every store and restaurant in town. We had ice from the fridge door, ice from trays, and nothing compares to an Opal. The Opal 2.0 by GE is WORTH EVERY PENNY! They have taken all the issues we had with the original Opal and made them disappear! The noise, the size, the weight, the lack of extra dispenser. I mean EVERYTHING! This is an ice lover's dream come true!

It came 3 days early. I was sick so I didn't get it set up right away. But, when I did, it worked great. It was well packed. Between the instructions and the pictures, we were able to get it up and running. A few slight problems but not too hard to do. I love the ice. It is just like Sonic Ice. It keeps up with our needs.

Can not even begin to say how much I love this ice maker! We cannot use the icemaker in our refrigerator because the well water, even with a filter, makes the ice taste weird and thus ruins our drink. This ice maker is a game changer. Plus it's nugget ice! I have it set so that it starts running when I'm on my way home from work and the ice we don't use that night is still there in the morning for my smoothies.
