I am astonished at the volume and quality of the ice that this puppy makes! It's not for a person who just wants to plug and play— my guess is that the nugget ice machine isn't there yet, at least not the home version at a reasonable price. This guy needs frequently filled manually, and regularly sanitized and descaled. But great ice requires a great commitment and this bad boy is worth it!

Every machine had died in short time. My new one starred making a grinding noise on the 2nd day. Which is how the others sounded before it started to have problems. If it works, it's great! Just never know when it will go out and I'm scared to leave it on.

Love the Opal 2.0 Ice Machine, but the software used to monitor and control scheduling really, seriously, takes away from the overall experience. I had to take my first Opal 2.0 back as it had a bad ice level sensor right out of the box. No problem with that. My problem is, I installed the Opal in Smart HQ! After getting the second Opal 2.0 home I also installed it in Smart HQ! Big problem, you ca not remove an appliance from Smart HQ so now I have two Opals showing up and I'm getting emails stating the one I don't have any more is off line. The application Smart HQ is anything but smart. I can be in a sub-menu and just hit Home and it wants to communicate with the Ice Machine...well that take 10 to 15 seconds and it does that every time you want to go somewhere in the app. WHY?

We recently bought the Opal 2.0 nugget ice machine and it has been great. We were quite surprised to see ice being made just 10 minutes after the last clean cycle. I had a concern about the noise but although it does produce sound; it is only discernable in the early morning hours before my kids wake up. We don't notice the machine running during the day. I love the fact that it stops making ice once the bin is full and also that you can set a schedule to make ice. We wake up to a full bin of ice and come home from work and school to an ice full. The 3lb capacity has been plenty although we did save a couple of gallon-sized bags in the freezer if we ever needed any more. We have found that the machine takes a little more than 3 hours to fill up.

Great ice maker. Wonderful nugget ice anytime I want it. A little noises than I'd like, but the benefit of ice is worth it. Gone are tgd days of ice trays for us. I have the reservoir which is a must in my opinion. Only negative I'd say is noise and water drippings every time I open to get ice…..but we'll worth it.

As advertised! Soft ice in my opinion is one of the best inventions ever. Spending the purchase price was something I struggled with for some time however I do not regret it one bit. Great unit, amazing soft ice, and a very attractive appliance to boot. Not for everyone, but for those who enjoy this type of ice, this unit will not disappoint!

We had to return this ice maker after 2 weeks! I understand that an ice machine makes noise. But the sounds coming out of this machine were so loud it would wake the entire house up at night. I tried cleaning, using filtered water, distilled water nothing helped. It's such a shame because when it works it's amazing! And i love that it has the side tank so you're not refilling. I want to try getting another one but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle.

There is no comparison in nugget ice makers. The Opal is the highest quality and well designed countertop ice maker money can buy. If you are serious about "the good ice" or make drinks at home, the Opal will pay for itself and bring a little bit of joy to your life.

This ice maker is easy to operate, all you do is add water. The ice is chewable and awesome--not even sure if Sonic's ice is this good. You'll need to clean it on a regular schedule, especially if you're in an area with really hard water like I am. I got the side water tank, which makes this extremely hands-free. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is b/c its a little loud when making ice, but outside of that, its a great ice machine.

My wife and I have averaged 2 ice makers every 12-18 months. We went with the GE Profile “Opel” ice maker, because we own other GE Profile appliances, which have performed flawlessly for years. Are hope is that the “Opel” will perform as well. Note: I have been unable to get the WI-FI to connect to any of the GE Profile appliances.
