I am more than pleased with this product. Was concerned about the price and the reviews that said they had issues. I carefully followed all the instructions for cleaning it before use and have had none of the problems other people reported. I am amazed at how much easier it is for my husband and I to get our daily water in. It is like it begs you to drink more. Other people have complained about the noise, but it doesn't make anymore noise than a refrigerator and if you happen to notice it making more ice then it is just an encouragement to top off your glass. You can never have too. Ice water or ice when you live in the desert.

I have two Opal ice makers (had one for home and one for my office which I brought home). I've used only distilled water, cleaned regularly with Opal cleaning kit, and have them set up properly. One unit has stopped working (suspect the ice bin switch) and I cannot get any parts or service help. The second unit is making a loud noise and I suspect it's dying. My suggestion is to pay the extra money and get a professional unit like a Scotsman or Hoshizaki - these are “cute” toys but not real ice makers. Add to that GE bought Opal and as they say when that happens “GE, where great companies go to die”.

First, it works. I constantly hear that ice makers break, no worries so far. Two, services our family of 5 without capacity issues. Our fridge ice maker was routinely depleted, so this has been a great add. Third, water attachment is very convenient, easy to fill with filtered water.

Makes ice quick. The only downside is the noise and it makes, it's louder when it's first starting up for the first few minutes and quiet down but we had to move it into a pantry area because of the noise level. Or maybe we have a bad unit, don't have anything to check it against.

Omg I love this machine soooooo much! My entire family enjoys it...when I allow it LOL. This was the absolute best purchase I've made in a while. Being able to start my ice maker before I even leave work has been a big help and I love it more and more each day.

This is the second one I purchased, the first after 3 months made a high squealing noise and it's loud and many people with same issue can be found. It says it's defrosting but it just quit so I bought a second and 3 days later it's squealing as well. Love the ice it makes but hate the machine and being woke up at night.

As an absolute fan of nugget ice we decided to get the 2.0 to replace our sadly broken first generation Opal. The improvements are great such as the side water tank and non leaking front drawer but it's still a pain to clean and takes up a ton of counter space but we will put up with it for that delicious nugget ice!

This thing makes the am/pm good ice and it is wonderful. If you are a beverage forward household, this is worth the price tag. I have it set to turn on in the morning and turn off around bedtime through the app. It doesn't take very long at all for this thing to give you a full pint glass of ice after being turned on. By the time I'm done with my morning coffee routine, I have enough for the first seltzer of the day. I did not purchase the side tank version and I believe the money saved there was worth it. Can it be a little annoying to fill? Yes, only because our Brita pitcher can't fit in there- I end up using the included ice scoop as like a funnel. My wife and I use ice all day and I would say I refill it about 2 times daily. Fits under standard height cabinets on the counter just fine. The depth is where I feel like it should live on the counter next to the fridge or on its own cart or bar area. So far no issues over the last two weeks and we use it every single day. This is a splurge purchase for sure. But dang, it is a good feeling splurge.

So I had the original build and it was good however the new GE is AWESOME!!! It's much better looking , makes lot more ice and it's the life if the party every time !!! What can be better than great crushed ice ??? Nada , Nothing , Zilch !!!! Love this machine and you will too!!!!

The instructions to install are super lengthy and not extremely clear. I typically like to follow instructions for items like this so I'm less likely to have issues later. Also the app doesn't seem to be working, I've attempted to reset my GE password 4 times each time saying it was successful but still unable to login to the app. I know my password is correct as I am able to login to the GE website with each new password.
