It is virtually silent and it makes ice so quickly, is easy to refill, and is built with such quality that I can already tell that it’s going to last me for years to come. The self cleaning feature is simple and easy to use and I was able to fill up an entire cup of ice within an hour of set up! The instructions were so simple and so clear that the entire process only took me about 20 minutes from start to finish. I’ve already been using it like crazy and I’ve already convinced two family members that they need one! If you’re an avid water drinker, RUN!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been wanting an ice maker for a very long time. I've had this one for six months now and absolutely love it. It's fast, filling up the ice bin in less than an hour and makes enough for a beverage in 15 minutes. It is extremely easy to fill both the main reservoir and the reserve tank. The cleaning process is easy as well, maybe tedious, but easy. I live in an area with semi- hard water and have dealt with calcium deposits but its onlt an issue if not cleaned regularly. I am so happy with this machine!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been using the GE Opal ice maker for a few weeks now, and it’s quickly become a staple in my house. The crunchy ice it produces is fantastic- crunchy cubes that rival that of Sonic’s offering. One of the best things is how fast it gets started; ice begins coming out at around the 20-25 minute mark. Once this happens, you can clearly hear the ice being produced and extruded- it is a squeaking sound of sorts. The machine is still quite quiet however, which is a big bonus as some ice makers can be quite noisy. I also love that the ice stays frozen overnight. I can turn it off before bed and wake up to a fully stocked ice tray in the morning, which is extremely convenient for filling up water bottles and the like in the morning. The water capacity is impressive too, especially with the included side tank. One fill of the tank lasts a day or so of heavy ice consumption, but can stretch out for a good few days assuming you don’t use all that much ice. However, there are a few downsides. The Opal does require regular cleaning and descaling, especially if you’re using it nonstop, which can be a bit of a hassle. Further, the stainless steel exterior, while sleek and elegant, tends to show smudges and fingerprints easily. Not a big deal if you wipe it down regularly, but nonetheless it can get annoying. I must also note that this is a large machine, and takes up a significant amount of counter space. Overall, the GE Opal (OPAL01GEWKT) delivers fast and high-quality ice with an elegant design, making it a great choice if you’re willing to keep up with the maintenance.

Best ice maker ever. The cleaning process is tedious and the water tank needs a better design in order to pour the water in through the top instead of having to pick up the entire tank, flip it over to open the lid to pour water in, and then flip it back over to set it back into it's base. They need to make where the base is connected and the opening for the water is on the top.

This is the 2nd Opal ice machine I have owned. The first one I didn’t have the best luck with. They ended up having to send me 4 units before I got one that worked over 2 months. And then the 4th one didn’t work more than 1.5 years. So hoping this one does better. We will see.

Okay first off let me say that I have had a couple of different types of countertop ice makers from the small to the large. This one is the quietest one that I have ever heard. I can’t even tell it’s running. The capacity is great I can’t feel my 40 oz cup and there is still a good amount leftover. It produces very fast and it’s filled up in no time. The size is big but I like the side tank so I don’t have to worry about the amount of water because I can see clearly. I haven’t had this long but it seems easy to maintain, I like how the instructions mentions how often you could descale and clean the machine.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Easy setup, quiet, large water capacity. Fantastic so far. I have a piece of crap Samsung refrigerator with an ice maker in the fridge. Nevertheless it hasn’t worked right ever and quit shortly after warranty expired. Fast forward to the last seven years of countertop ice makers. I have been through so many I lost count. Finally decided to get a nugget ice maker. We tried a few of those and they failed miserably. Loud and ice output was low. Was about to give up and found this Opal 2.0XL on sale and bit the bullet. Love the extra large side tank and it was easy to set up and hook up to Wi-Fi to see current status and set a schedule. I thought the schedule was kind of pointless but I can set it to make fresh ice a few hours before we wake up and instead of having slushy half melted ice from sitting all night we have fresh chewy ice! It actually makes a difference. So far this ice maker is far superior to all the others I have owned.

Setup was incredibly simple—just plugged it in, filled the side tank with water, and it started working within minutes. The instructions were clear, and everything felt very user-friendly. After about 20 minutes, it started producing nugget ice, and wow—it’s exactly like the kind you get at Sonic or in nice hotel lobbies. Soft, chewable, and perfect for everything from iced coffee to cocktails. I didn’t realize how much I’d enjoy having this kind of ice at home until now!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love the ice that this makes but was expecting for the machine to be smaller. It takes up way more room on my counter than I was expecting. But really love the texture of the ice. My kids love it too! Recommend if you have a lot of counter space.
