Incredible carpet cleaner
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Bissell Revolution Hydrosteam is hands-down the best carpet cleaner I have ever used, including larger commercial cleaners I have rented in the past. This machine is absolutely amazing!! Assembly was super simple and I had it ready to go out of the box in minutes! The water tank is easy to access, and is clearly marked with how much water and cleaner to use. The steam pretreater is a handy option for tackling sticky messes. This is a feature my old cleaner does not have, and I can say it makes the overall job much easier. Cleaning the carpet was a breeze after pretreating. The machine is very easy to use - just pull the trigger as you push forward along the carpet, release trigger and pull back over same area. It is incredible to see all the dirt and pet hair being sucked up! I always vacuum before shampooing my carpet to help with the pet hair, but this Hydrosteam cleaner found lots more hair to pull up! The suction on this machine is extremely strong. I am so impressed! I love the fact it uses real steam during cleaning not only because the steam breaks down tough stains but also because it gives you the satisfied feeling that the carpet is being deep cleaned and sanitized. One of my favorite things about this cleaner is the self cleaning cycle. You simply fill the clean water tank with water and a small amount of cleaning solution, be sure the dirty tank is empty, and place the machine on the storage tray. Push the clean out button and the machine does the rest! It takes about 40 minutes and your machine is clean for storage! I would highly recommend this carpet cleaner. I have owned many over the years and this one is simply the best!!
Best carpet cleaner with amazing results
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall Cleaning Power The overall cleaning power of the Bissell Revolution HydroSteam is amazing! It is honestly the best carpet cleaner I have used and I was blown away with the results it produced. I didn't realize how much of a difference the HydroSteam feature would make until I saw the results firsthand. The combination of strong suction and real steam pulls an incredible amount of dirt out of the carpet. When I emptied the dirty water tank, the amount of dirt and debris it collected really spoke for itself. It made it clear that the machine was deep cleaning far beyond the surface level. Performance on Sticky, Stuck-On Messes This carpet cleaner tackled every stuck-on mess I had. I have a 3-year-old, so our carpets see plenty of spills and hardened messes. There was old dried clay stuck deep in the carpet that I previously couldn't remove. After using the HydroSteam cleaner, the steam softened it almost immediately. I was able to wipe it up easily, and it came completely out of the carpet without leaving residue behind. The ability of the steam to loosen stubborn messes is a huge advantage. Steam Power Function The steam power function is one of the standout features of this machine. I absolutely appreciate that it uses real steam. The steam makes a noticeable difference in deep cleaning because it helps break down grime, sticky residue, and embedded dirt that standard carpet cleaners can struggle with. The machine heats up quickly and is ready to use in about 30 seconds, which makes the steam feature convenient and efficient. Self-Cleaning Cycle and Ease of Use The self-cleaning cycle is extremely easy to use. It only requires two simple steps and does a great job cleaning out the hose after use. Cleanup is usually the most daunting part of using a carpet cleaner, but this process took less than five minutes. Everything rinsed out quickly and the system felt very well designed for easy maintenance. Cleaning Results and Overall Experience I first used the cleaner on our family room rug. After seeing the amount of dirt that collected in the dirty water tank, I was eager to run another pass the next day. Even during the second cleaning it still pulled up a noticeable amount of dirt, which really impressed me. Because of those results, I immediately took the cleaner upstairs and used it in all four bedrooms and the hallway. Watching the dirty water tank fill up again showed just how effective the machine is. By the time I finished, the carpets throughout the house looked refreshed and smelled clean. It honestly gave me a huge sense of satisfaction and cleanliness seeing how much dirt had been removed. Unboxing and Setup Experience The unboxing experience was excellent. Everything was packed neatly and securely, and setup was very straightforward. The instructions were simple and easy to follow. There were detailed photos and descriptions which made it seamless to follow. From opening the box to cleaning my carpet took about 15 minutes total. The machine also came with a starter sample bottle of cleaning solution that had a pleasant scent without being overpowering. It left the room smelling fresh and clean. Water Tank Capacity For my family room rug, I used the small-area fill line on the tank and it was the perfect amount. When cleaning the upstairs bedrooms and hallway, I filled the tank to the large-area line. It handled most of the space before I needed a small refill for the final bedroom. The tank size is sufficient for most cleaning jobs and helps minimize frequent stopping and refilling. Ease of Operation and Design The machine itself is very easy to operate. The buttons are clearly located and simple to navigate. The ready light is easy to see and provides a helpful indicator when the machine is ready to begin cleaning. The steam heats up quickly and the machine is ready within about 30 seconds. The weight of the cleaner felt manageable, and maneuvering it around the carpet was smooth. The wheels glide easily across carpeted surfaces, making it comfortable to push and navigate. Noise Level and Storage The steam function is surprisingly quiet—you mainly hear the sound of the steam itself. When running the SteamWash Max cycle, the noise level is similar to a standard vacuum cleaner. The machine also comes with a black carry bag for storing the attachments, which helps keep everything organized. The machine itself has a sleek, modern design and stores easily. Cord and Handling The machine is corded, so cleaning range is limited to the cord length. However, the cord wraps neatly on the back of the machine for storage. There is also a cord hook near the handle that keeps the cord out of the way while cleaning. The solution and steam spray trigger on the handle is comfortable and easy to use. It doesn't strain the hand or fingers even during longer cleaning sessions. Dry Time I used the Steam Pretreat and SteamWash Max setting for several passes and then followed with a few "dry" passes to suck up extra moisture. The carpets were slightly damp afterward but not overly wet. With fans running in the room, they were fully dry within about two hours. Final Thoughts Overall, the Bissell Revolution HydroSteam carpet cleaner exceeded my expectations. I was so happy with the results and so impressed! The HydroSteam feature, strong suction, ability to handle stubborn messes, quick heat-up time, and easy self-cleaning cycle make it an incredibly effective machine. It left my carpets looking refreshed, smelling clean, and noticeably deep cleaned!
Great Easy to Use Carpet Cleaner
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used many upright carpet cleaners over the years so I consider myself pretty well versed in carpet cleaners. We also have two dogs, a cat, and a toddler so cleaning messes is our specialty. First, I'll just say that this is a beautiful, sleek carpet cleaner. It is very aesthetically pleasing and I love the black with bronze accents. Second, the instruction manual was VERY clear and concise. The pictures were very easy to understand and I had no issues assembling or figuring out how to work the cleaner. After using this product, I do feel as though the cleaning action of this carpet cleaner is great. I even used it on what appeared to be a fairly clean portion of the carpet and it removed so much dirt not visible to the eye! I loved the self cleaning aspect of the hand held portion as well as how easy it was to clean the head of the main cleaner. I have had other carpet cleaners without either of those and it quickly became very dirty and was difficult to impossible to clean. The cleaner moved around smoothly and heated up quickly. I really like the ability to steam without suction for really difficult to clean messes as well. The cleaner included had a clean but not overbearing scent which was nice. I do wish the suction was just slightly stronger in order to remove even more of the water and cleaner from the carpet but even so, it was only left slightly damp not a significant issue. I also have some concerns that the different cleaning attachments that go on the hand held portion may not hold up with repeated changing of them. However, that has yet to be truly determined. I feel strongly that this carpet cleaner will stand up to all of our many messes and be much easier to operate and clean!
Must Have
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Bissell Revolution Hydrosteam is a must have if you have pets or kids! It was so easy to set up and the directions were so helpful. I can't believe how well it cleaned my carpet…so much dirt was pulled from the carpet that I didn't even realize was there! I also love that you can actually see the steam so you know it is really working. It also comes with a carry case for all the extra attachments. I am usually not one to be excited to clean but the Bissell Revolution Hydrosteam is making me want to steam clean every room!
Excellent product, better results from experience
BACKGROUND My wife and I have three indoor-only cats and have been cat parents for several decades. One of our cats currently has urination issues and frequently eschews the litter box. In the past, we had another cat with similar issues who basically wrecked the carpet in one room. Our cats are family, and when we adopt, we commit. We have owned a Bissell "Spot Bot" for years, and I've nicknamed it the "Scott Bot" because I'm the one who uses it more often. It works great, but for cleaning large areas it was faster to use the hose and scrub by hand. Faster, but decidedly unpleasant -- hence the decision to buy an upright carpet cleaner. ASSEMBLY AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS Although I'm very mechanically inclined, I think the assembly process is within reach of most people. The instructions are reasonably comprehensive, although as is often the case the diagrams are not large or detailed. Warning: Do NOT test-fit the handle into the base until you reach that point in the instructions. I like to familiarize myself with the parts before assembling something, and I slipped the pieces together intending it to be temporary. It took a trip to my workshop and half an hour of tinkering before I figured out how to undo my mistake. I would have been fine if I had followed the steps without trying to overthink it. In the Bissell survey response, I suggested they should make this clear in the instructions or provide an easy way to release it. I was impressed with the quality of parts and the accuracy of coupling and fit. The plastic tanks, in particular, are thick enough to be durable, something I believe was suggested by customers from Bissell's earlier models. The machined and molded parts fit snugly together and do not wobble. The assembled machine is not lightweight, but that's a reasonable tradeoff for durability with frequent use. FIRST USE We have two rooms with major problems, and I jumped right into the "deep end" with one of those rather than a regular living area. The room is about 12x14 feet (3.6 by 4.3 meters). There were bad urine stains over a basically L-shaped path from opposite corners of the room, with smaller problem areas elsewhere. My goal was to recover usability, with no expectation of miracles. We purchased the Bissell "3X" cleaning fluid that is made for cat urine. On advice of a review here, I pre-treated the area with Nature's Miracle (highest concentration variant) and allowed time for that to work before extraction, then went in with the HydroSteam. I was careful to mix the correct ratio of cleaning fluid to water in the tank. Per the Bissell instructions, I did not use the steam pre-treat setting on these deeply set urine stains but went directly to the max cleaning option. It's bulkier from the tanks, but the HydroSteam is no harder to push than a traditional (non-compact) vacuum sweeper. It takes a minute or two for warmup from a cold start but recovers faster if you just turn it off to service the clean and dirty fluid tanks. The motor spins up immediately even during preheating, which surprised me a little. I realized very quickly that the weight of the HydroSteam is a feature, not a bug: It needs to have some mass in order to press down into the carpet for decent suction. If it didn't, the user would have to lean on it -- and that would be miserable. The HydroSteam has a powerful motor that moves a lot of air, so it is inherently noisy. That said, the noise is of a lower frequency (pitch) than our regular vacuum sweeper, so I found it much less annoying even after extended use. The color in the dirty water tank left no doubt it was picking up "yuck" from the carpet. The quantity of recovered water is a lot less than the quantity of clean water. Some of this is attributable to steam dissipating into the room air, but the HydroSteam also leaves water in the carpet. It's impossible to remove all of the applied water, but I think the HydroSteam falls just slightly short of excellent here. TIP 1: SLOW DOWN on the suction phase of cleaning and make multiple passes. The instructions say to hold the button for a couple of passes to apply liquid and steam, then release the button for extraction. The removal of dirt only happens with removal of liquid (think about it!). Leaving liquid behind also means leaving dirt, so if you rush the suction phase, you're just moving the dirt around. TIP 2: ALLOW A LITTLE TIME between application and removal of fluid. What works well for me, after some trial and error, is to pick an area about as large as I can easily reach with just one or two steps. Apply the fluid over that area from one side to the other without doing the suction passes. Then return to the start of the area and begin SLOWLY running the suction pass. Either make multiple suction passes with the area as you go or work across with a single slow pass and then repeat the suction. Keep up the suction as long as the HydroSteam is pulling reasonable amounts of water. As others have noted, this process (intentionally) uses a lot of water. Servicing the two tanks is amazingly easy as they lift off and snap back into place. They're easy to clean with large openings. I had no problems with leakage through the self-sealing valves. They're clear plastic so it's easy to see when it's time to fill or empty them. I give the tanks five solid stars. Opening and de-clogging the brush area was astoundingly easy, with a removable cover and an open internal layout. Cleaning wet hair out of a brush will never be my idea of fun, but it was *much better* than I had expected. Again, five solid stars for superb design. RESULTS AFTER DRYING AND FOLLOW-UP The room looked clean when I finished, but I knew better than to think it would be one-and-done. It wasn't. I made three more passes of the room and saw improvement each time. There is still one area that has a slight stain visible if you are looking for it, but a casual observer probably would not notice. The room isn't perfect, and there is still a faint odor, but it is massively improved from its horrific starting condition, and it's definitely usable again. In retrospect, I probably would have needed at least one less iteration if I had realized from the start that the suction process has to be done *slowly* to be effective. If we had the HydroSteam during the lifetime of the cat that created this problem, and I had used it soon after the urine incidents, I believe the result would have been better. We just gave up on the room until now. This is a significant takeaway from the ownership experience: We have moved from despair and resignation to action. There is a problem still, but we can do something to cope with it. ONE ODDITY During one of the iterations of the room, the HydroSteam lost suction for no apparent reason. Thoroughly cleaning the brush area didn't help. I checked fluid levels and decided to service the tanks while I was already at a stop. I happened to need to unplug the HydroSteam and move to another outlet. When I powered it back on, with no other changes, it ran through its preheat as usual and the suction was back to normal. The motor runs constantly when the device is on, so I'm not convinced resetting the onboard computer could make any difference with the level of suction -- but maybe it does. Appliances sometimes have sensors and software algorithms that are not obvious to the user (such as temperature monitoring to prevent overheating). It's also possible my moving the device dislodged something that was partially blocking suction, or some other subtlety. OTHER APPLICATIONS In the same room was a fairly thin area rug with urine stains, so it was a natural candidate for the HydroSteam. That worked, but I learned an important lesson: TIP 3: Do not clean an area rug on top of other carpeting! The detergent dislodged the stains and trickled them right onto the carpet below. I had to re-clean that area of the room carpet. After that I took the area rug outdoors onto the concrete porch that could be hosed down. TIP4: For area rugs, consider cleaning from both sides "because you can". The HydroSteam worked fine on an oriental rug as well, but this time I took the rug outdoors from the start. Lesson learned! CLOSING THOUGHTS While not perfect, the HydroSteam is well designed and durably made. It's easy to use, easy to maintain, and delivers as good a result as we could reasonably expect given the starting condition of the carpet. Having our own carpet cleaner avoids procrastinating until things are bad enough to justify renting a machine. Cleaning a carpeted room is an occasional housework chore, not a major project undertaking. Ideally, I would like the HydroSteam to have a little better water extraction. I'm not sure if it needs a more powerful motor, slightly more weight on the leading edge, an improved brush or beater bar, or something else. Its performance now is very good but for me falls just slightly short of excellent. Overall, the slight deficiency in extraction is easily outweighed by the HydroSteam's positive attributes. The design and product quality are excellent, it's easy to use, and delivers excellent results with reasonable user effort. Servicing fluids is as easy as could be, and the way they have designed the brushes for easy cleaning is stellar. Five out of five stars. Recommended.
Amazing deep cleaner
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the bissell revolution hydrosteam carpet cleaner through the stellar product testing panel, and it has been a really helpful addition to our home. with a busy household and a lot of daily traffic on our carpets, I'm always looking for ways to keep them looking fresh. after using this cleaner, I could immediately see a difference. areas that looked dull or worn from everyday use looked noticeably cleaner and more refreshed. the machine itself feels sturdy and powerful but is still easy to use. the brushes do a great job working the cleaning solution into the carpet and pulling up dirt that regular vacuuming just can't reach. one thing I actually found really satisfying was emptying the dirty water tank and seeing how much dirt it pulled out, especially from high-traffic areas. I also appreciated having the hose and attachments for smaller jobs like stairs and spot cleaning. being able to quickly tackle those areas without needing a separate tool makes it very practical for everyday messes. the only downside I noticed is that it goes through the clean water fairly quickly, so if you're cleaning a large area you'll probably need to refill the tank a few times. that said, the results were worth the extra refills. overall, the bissell revolution hydrosteam does a great job deep cleaning carpets and chairs and bringing them back to life. it's powerful, straightforward to use, and makes a noticeable difference, which is exactly what I was hoping for
Thanks for sharing your experience, Tzleder — we’re so glad the BISSELL Revolution HydroSteam has been making such a difference in your busy home. The clean‑water tank can run through quickly during deep cleans, and switching to shorter passes or using the hose tools for touch‑ups can help stretch refills a bit. We appreciate your thoughtful feedback and are happy to hear how well the machine is refreshing your carpets and chairs! If you ever need tips or support, our team is always here to help.
Great for a DIY clean
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wasn't sure what to expect from the Bissel Revolution Hydrosteam cleaner as I've only ever used a portable carpet cleaner or a big monster professional one you have to rent. But this one was awesome! I am finally able to get the clean I want from the messes of 3 kids and an indoor Golden Retriever. The cleaning power was adequate and I really enjoyed the steam option. I don't think I'll ever have to rent a carpet cleaner again.
Effortless Carpet Maintenance
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Finally, my carpet troubles are finally over! Life with our 3 kids has made keeping up with the carpets one of the biggest headaches. I was actually giggling with excitement as I watched the Bissel Revolution Hydrosteam leave a pristine trail of carpet in its wake. Overall, this carpet cleaner cleans better than I ever would have guessed. Additionally, the ease of use puts it in another league. I was very eager to get to cleaning, and thankfully it was maybe 2 minutes of unboxing and then straight to cleaning. It came with two bottles of cleaning solution and they have made my carpets smell heavenly. The steam coming out of this cleaner means business. As soon as you turn it on, it's ready to steam in 35 seconds (the handy light comes on). I was blown away on just how much it steams. And then the suction after trigger release is the most therapeutic part of it all. I was both excited and disgusted as I watched the dirty water tank fill with dark brown/black water. How did that come from carpet I had professionally cleaned two months before? I am so beyond pleased with this machine. I'm just mad at myself for not getting one sooner! 10/10 would recommend!
Powerful Cleaning Machine
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am extremely impressed by this carpet cleaner! I have used spot cleaners in the past, but never a full size, upright carpet cleaner. When I first opened the box I was intimidated, but there was nothing to worry about. I had the machine put together and ready to use in less than 10 minutes. The instruction manual explained everything thoroughly and made it very easy to get started. The machine is sleek and looks very nice. It's not big and clunky like one you might rent at a big box store, and I appreciate that. This maneuvers like a vacuum cleaner and is much easier to move around than I expected. The first thing I tackled was the seats of the barstools in the kitchen. My toddler uses them daily and they were pretty stained. The hose and upholstery attachment popped on with ease. There is no steam option when using the hose, but that wasn't a problem. The solution worked really well to tackle the stains and the bristles on the attachment allowed me to scrub the fabric. Five minutes of work and all of the stains were completely gone. I was shocked! Next I moved on to the playroom. This room probably gets the most foot traffic in our house. The suction and scrubbing power of this machine is impressive. I used the steam function for this task and it was definitely helpful to remove some set in stains. The steam can be used to pretreat and clean, and I just feel like my floors must be more sanitary after a good steam clean. The clean water tank is a really good size. I was able to clean two barstool seats, the armrest (top and side) of my couch, and two rooms in my house before I ran out of cleaner. More cleaning time with fewer refills is a win in my book. And, fair warning, you will be absolutely disgusted by the dirty water tank when you're done cleaning. My house is only a year old and I CANNOT BELIEVE what the water looked like when I was done. That alone tells me how great the cleaning power of this machine is. I also really enjoyed the self cleaning functions. When using the hose and upholstery attachments just a simple flip of a switch takes you to a self clean mode. Pull the trigger and the water sprays and stays within the attachment to clean out all of the dirt and pet hair. When it's time to clean the roller simply open the door on the front of the machine, pop out the roller, rinse, and replace. I was really worried about cleaning up the machine after using it, but it really could not be more simple. I could not be happier with the Bissell Revolution Hydrosteam, and it will now be a staple in my cleaning routine.
