[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We've been using this for a few weeks now and the mosquitoes do seem to have died down quite a bite. Will need to use it a bit more. Definitely seems like it makes a noticeable difference. Kills them before even letting them breed. Love it!

I’ve pretty well removed all sources of standing water on our property but skeeters keep coming. Tried citronella candles, garlic spray with leaf blower, mosquito dunks in gutters even though they drain but those little biters keep coming. Saw this product and giving it a try. EXCELLENT INSTRUCTIONS, product very sturdy and well made and easy to assemble. My suggestion on assembly is to open refill package into the DRY container. That way, all product safely put in container. When attaching the REFILL BAND to the FLOATER, it has “dog ears” on bottom. Attach to one side and then push the band towards the attached end. This will force the band to open and expand to make it more circular when you release it. Makes it easier to properly attach to float. I then placed it on level surface and then slowly filled with tap water to mark inside. Started to fill it with reclaimed rain water so no chlorine or smell but for now followed instructions. When you put the lid on it doesn’t secure until you put the red cap on. Red cap also has a circular disc numbered 1-12 so you can mark the month serviced. Also put in area where kids and critters cannot reach as if it turns over, everything is on the ground. Plan to try to update post at end of month where hopefully it gets 5 Stars when I have fewer bite marks.

Just replace the band every 30 days, check water level periodically and refill as needed.

It seems like a good idea to help lower the population of mosquitoes, by lessening their breeding, but that is a long term goal. I would much perfer an immediate option: kill the adults, not even letting them breed. It's heavy once you fill it with water and it's finicky. You have to have a careful hand when suspending the mesh ring to float on the surface.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I setup the Ortho Home Defense Mosquito Kill and Prevent station a couple of days before the Fourth of July Holiday. We still had some mosquitos , but perhaps I did not set it up to give the chemicals the amount of time to work properly.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Ortho Home Defense Mosquito Kill & Prevent Starter Kit is easy to set-up and use. The starter set comes with two refills, each lasting a month. I have had this up for almost a month and while I haven't see a decrease in activity, I also haven't seen an increase, which we usually would at this time. I think it will take a little longer to verify if it is working for sure, but based on seeing mosquito eggs on the water when I refill, I would say it is starting to do its job. For a DIY treatment option, I believe this would be a good option mosquito control.

This year with all the rain the mosquitos have been more active, when I wanted to sit on my deck they would swarm us. Since putting this out, the mosquito activity has noticeably decreased.

The claim is that it attracts mosquitos, who lay eggs in the (poisoned) water chamber and also pick up poison that will be carried to any other water body that they attempt to lay eggs in. The poison prevents larva from becoming mature mosquitoes. The reality is that I really don't know if it's attracting mosquitoes that would normally be biting me, because the mosquitoes don't actually die in the trap - as disclosed by the literature in the box. We placed it in our backyard, under the deck that's next to our above ground pool. We typically sit in this area to play ball with the dogs and just socialize outside throughout the afternoon and evening as time allows. Since placing the trap, I can confirm that neither my wife nor I have really suffered the number of mosquito bites that I would normally expect for this time of year in Kansas. But since I can't actually see dead ones, I don't know. I have one concern not addressed by the box literature. It warns against getting the poison powder on your skin, but there is no inhalation warning. When I went to dump excess powder from the included pouch into the water basin, a small cloud did form, and I hurried away to avoid breathing it. Perhaps a warning against setting up anywhere without a breeze would be in order, or even a specific disclaimer about inhalation toxicity, if any.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was not what I expected, I thought it was too keep mosquitoes away but it is a long term killer to keep eggs from growing. It does seem to have some larvae in it so I really don't know how it's working.
